2 inch MOPAR LIFT for Jeep JL/ JT review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I finally get into a review on the first lift I had installed on my Jeep JL. The mopar lift was the only one available at the time I purchased it and I regret wasting my money on it. The lift is incomplete, inferior design and adds little benefits to your jeep. I cannot recommend wasting your hard earned money on this lift!

Great video and great review! Love your videos!💪 I think everyone has to remember that if you want more you pay more. That's how everything goes. If you want an adjustable control arms and track bar, you pay extra and buy them. If you want a kit with them included, you pay more. That's how it works. Also, one thing that we have learned since cars have been around is that they're all different. Even Jeeps. The kit will react and function different on different Jeeps. That's why some come off the lot with issues and some don't. Same goes with the Mopar lift kit. Some will act, react, and function different with the kit. I've had the Mopar lift on my JT for over 105,000 miles and I've gotten more than what I probably should have. And I beat it up! Lol. But others haven't. It's the way vehicles work. It's like getting wheels. You have to get what works. Hahaha! Again, great video and great review! Keep em comin!!!!!

I can't believe you think those Fox shocks are stiff. They are far and away the softest, smoothest shocks I've owned or driven on any lifted Jeep. I couldn't be happier with them. No issue with the control arms or spring perches, either. I have had a great experience with the Mopar lift. I've got a great dealership, too. Sounds like you need to find a better one. That's not an issue with the lift, at all.

The shift on rear track bar is 2.5mm and front is 2.2mm, which is very minor. Also the thin built control arms are to save the chassis. I’ve written of a vehicle by warping the chassis by putting stronger parts than the chassis itself. Recently I wrecked rear track bar and there was no other damage, replacing the felt much better and cheap. Mopar and many other basic lifts are just means to raise the vehicle to fit bigger tires and some benefits of better angles and capability over stock configuration. For any hardcore rock crawling or off-roading, these are not the right choices. 2-3” JL lifts with 37s have no gain in articulation, no rub margins are so narrow that can’t even accommodate chains. 35s look a bit small but chains can be used on them which may help over a larger tire in mud and snow. I’m glad that JL is still a purpose built vehicle and has the most options available in the aftermarket parts and accessories. It can out wallet before it’d outrun ones capability. Anyway, most other upgraded rigs end where a stock JLUR begins and that’s the best thing about it. As far as the upgrades go, it’s a continuous process of liking, affordability, learning, and redoing.

As a Gladiator owner, there was only the EVO lift option out there when the Gladiator came out. So I wanted bigger tires, and the only option available was the Mopar 2 inch lift with Fox shocks. I liked it over the stock suspension, but now I like the Teraflex extended travel 4.5 lift in that it give 6 inches more aticulation on the rear axle, and now comes with a longarm kit, and a longarm coilover reservoir kit. I wanted to put on 37 inch tires, but the dealership would not warranty them. So had to go with the 35 inch tires, and eventually regeared to 5:13 gearing. Been there done that, saving to move on. If you want to do anything offroad you have to beef up all your suspension for ground clearnace and bigger tires. Just empty every pocket. They originally built them light to drop them out of airplanes. Hoorah!

I bought it when it was the only thing available as well. Have had it on since around April 2018. Added metal cloak control arms and track bar but otherwise been pretty happy with it. The flex is alright once you disconnect your sway bars and it is not enough flex to require new driveshafts which is nice. Still working fine for me and I off road fairly often. Ill be going full metalcloak eventually.

Wish I had found your video six months ago. I bought the Mopar 2” lift and I regret it. Yes, to keep the factory warranty for now another 18 months. To get the Jeep to factory spec caster, I’m having to add front adjustable lower control arms. Factory specs are 5.8 +/- 1.0. The best they can get to is 7.0, that’s excessive. I’ve already added a front adjustable track bar and next month I’m adding the rear track bar. Yep mistake on my part. Good video, good explanations. I enjoyed it.

This was a brilliant video… I wheel stock, but now that I have 3 Jeeps (2 working), I’m thinking of slightly lifting my JL and leaving my TJ stock. I knew the mopar lift was junk, but since I only want 35s and have a high tolerance to ride quality, I was thinking I’d just get it. Mostly because I didn’t want to deal with warranty disputes later and my dealer is decent (they can fight Jeep on a mopar lift, but it’s harder for them to fight a non-mopar lift). Still, I can’t deal with the wheeling issues you noted so I’ll stick to stock for now until I look more into my extended warranty details.

Spending $55K for the 1st year of a new style (2018) I knew that I ran a high risk of having bugs/issues with the Jeep so I went with the MOPAR lift to protect the warranty. I agree 100% with everything said in this video about the quality vs price of the MOPAR lift. In my case however, the extra $ for the lift has paid off since in my 1st 40K miles, I have had thousands of dollars of warranty work done, from grinding and redoing the majority of my frame welds, to electrical issues, to replacing my rear axle differential/locker and shafts. With the rear axle issue the dealership recognized that I had the MOPAR lift but still made me prove that the lift was installed by a "certified MOPAR tech" before proceeding with the warranty repair even though the issue with the axle had nothing to do with the lift. Smh. Since I have had so many warranty repairs thus far, I went with the extended warranty but look forward to the day when I can start replacing things with aftermarket parts. Truth be told though, after 30K miles on the lift, the springs and shocks feel pretty good on and off road...or maybe I am just used to them now..haha. Great video!

I have the Mopar lift. I paid $800 for it from a guy who bought the lift, ordered his jeep and ended up not getting a JL. I have rock Krawler trackbars and control arms tho. I like the ride of it. As for the warranty issue, where a lot of folks get caught though is on an extended warranty. If you buy a Chrysler maxcare warranty, it actually has provisions that invalidate the entire warranty if you install any lift that is over 2". I believe it even says it has to be a Mopar lift.. I have a great dealer service dept that gets jeeps. I've never had any repair issues and even have had them fix trail damage.

This was the best explanation and review of the MOPAR lift I have ever seen. I have the same lift and had to add an adjustable track bar. I didn’t even think about the rear Trac bar. I have not had any issues with the ride on and off road but then I don’t have any thing to compare it too. Every thing you said is logical and I will be getting rid of it and going to a metal cloak lift but my question is what size of lift. I don’t hit trails as hard as you guys do and I’m planning on getting 37s and a re- gear 4.88s, I actually like the ride from my fox shocks and I was thinking of keeping them. What do you think? 2019 JLUR Thank you

Does anyone know much about the skyjacker 1.5 inch lift for jl's? It includes shocks, dual rate springs, sway bar links, and bumpstop extensions. Its about $650. We would also replace the front lower control arms with adjustable. We are looking to run 35x12.50r17 on our JLUR. We are considering 37's but i feel like it will reduce reliability. And we would likely have to regear to gain power back. So to run 37's i feel would up the cost significantly with upgrading steering, p/s,gears ect. Eventually we would like a good 2-3" lift and 37's. But for now we are looking for smaller budget friendly lift to clear 35's, and gained clearance. But trying to avoid spacer lifts. We do wheel it i would say moderately hard. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance! Love your jl content anf honest reviews!

My man Mo. I love your channel and love how you explain everything in layman’s terms, for us dummies and how you give your honest opinion about a part, product or brand. You tell it how it is and are not a salesman for parts. My question for you is, I know in one video you said you added Coil spacers to your 2” lift for more lift and clearance cause you never liked the lift it gave you. I just did a RC 2.5” lift on my 15 jku, so I am not able to afford a taller lift kit, since I just did the 2.5” lift. I have already added RC adjustable front and rear lower control arms, RC adjustable track bars front and rear, with both RC track bar brackets front and rear. I have the jk lean and I am about to add coil spacers, 2” front passenger, 2.5” rear passenger, 1.5” front drivers and 2” rear drivers, essentially adding 1” all the way around, and the extra .5-1” to level the lean. Is that going to interfere with anything. I did order the RC 4-6” extended brake lines front and rear, RC rear spring perch correction brackets and spring retainers and I have the RC high steer dragline flip to install also. The RC 2.5 gave me a little extra lift in the front then the rear, and I only have factory bumpers, no winch, and a 33 nitto on the tailgate with MORYDE reinforced hinges. What issues am I gonna have, will this work, now I am not a hard core off road Jeep guy, easy muddy trails, slightly bumpy roads but it’s my daily driver and my lift looks small compared to most with 2.5-3.5-4.0 lifts and 35 tires. I just want taller, more clearance and eventually adding 35-37 tires when I can afford the regear. What am I about to get into that I overlooked.

Hmmm... brake lines and drive shaft clearance are the big things people tend to over look when lifting... on the drive shaft u will need to make sure ur angles are not way out of alignment or extreme angles... and also making sure the actual shaft clears everything else... on the JL.. I know tht front drive shaft can start rubbing into the tranny.... expensive fix 😂

Yeah anyone who come here to learn about a JL lift... ignore this guy. By his own admission, he isn't an offroader. If he is tearing his stock equipment up then he is the problem and not the equipment.

No Moe I disagree just put Metalcloak dual rate springs on my 05TJ and they ride much better both on and especially off road from my point of view the benefits are smooth ride on road and the longer dual spring stays in the bucket at full droop👍 springs are 4.5 inch same as before however rubicon express springs SO much stiffer and rough riding they were terrible METALCLOAK ROCKS

Glad I didn’t ask anymore than the tires, and that was still $1500 wasted. I kinda figured that anything from the dealership(Mopar) would be crap even though Teraflex recommends the tailgate hinge reinforcement for supporting their tire carrier with anything greater than a 35” tire, and in my opinion that’s still pushing it(thinking about GenRight’s swing out carrier except that the carrier isn’t rated anything more than the tire in weight). Since you brought up the track bar, I was curious what tie rod and drag link you have on bromance and Heathen? Thinking steer smart, even though I want to continue my Metalcloak pieces. Dam, I guess I haven’t been looking at the control arms that the True Dual Rate lift doesn’t replace from MC. Guess I gotta spend some more money with MC to make my lift a Game Changer lift. Lol, “violent” from bromance taking a fall with the Mopar lift. Really enjoyed hearing your first hand experience with their(Mopar/Jeep) lift. As always awesome video!

Hey buddy glad to hear u enjoyed the video.. I’m no fan of tht Teraflex carrier ... if u keeping it on the tail gate, get the cavfab... great price and heavy duty. I used to have the steersmarts track bar on front. But swapped it for rk over rubbing into my hd diff plates

JL LIFE OFFROAD I still have the track bar that came with my MC lift, otherwise I’m just thinking about the tie rod and drag link from steer smarts. I’d think it would be smarter to stick with Metalcloak. I’m kicking myself for not getting the poison spyder tire carrier since it works with the bumper, thus no weight to the tail gate. I’ve had similar tire carriers but told myself I don’t like that style and wanted to keep the carrier stockish like. Since I’ve installed it I’ve in ways regretted it, with having issues with installing the lug bolts to having to readjust the height after upgrading the rear bumper since it was rubbing at the 35” tire height adjustment. I don’t like that they refer to using Mopar. Not a fan of anything Mopar and your video just proves it more. Guess I’ll start setting the money to the side for either the GenRight swing out carrier or the Poison Spyder one(which would require me to take the bumper off🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Not only educational, but we get bonus footage of you cutting the control arm in half. I laughed when I bought my JL and they kept asking if I wanted to extend my warranty. I told them it was my 4th Jeep and I have some knowledge on fixing it. Also, if I didn’t know how to do something I have KZread to help me. The look in his eyes was epic. I agree the whole Mopar lift is not adequate and not complete. Its way overpriced and it’s only there to let you put bigger tires on it and street crawl.

The dealership kept saying they warranty the 2” mopar lift components. Lol. Good thing for those who are/where taking that bait. The earlier versions with their bowed coils definitely needed a warranty. That’s if you could get the dealership to acknowledge it wasn’t designed that way. We all hear that it’s been resolved with the a new coil spring isolator but all of that shouldn’t of ever happened. Keep the content coming.

Shocks has nothing to do with compression. Shock absorbers are primarily used to “damp” the bouncing motion of the a vehicle's body after it encounters a bump. If shocks are too stiff they will not let the coil come back to it’s original position fast enough and coil will already be compressed for the next bump and make the suspension feel stiff.

$1400? The last time I checked it was $2500 and still a piece of crap. I had to by a radiator for my 2008 titan and the dealer was $840 bucks. I purchased the same exact radiator off line and it cost $113.00 and has lasted longer than the stock one I purchased when I bought the truck.

100% agree but, too often engineers are to blame. Will bet dollars to donuts, business mangers dictated a price point and profit margin. You got subpar performance and above par profit.
