Can I complete these three projects in just 2 days? We need a fireguard as our baby has started to crawl - can I use a recycled dog crate to make one, I wondered? I need to find a safer way to cut logs and firewood with the chainsaw - so I needed to make some sort of work holding jig for that. And I need to give an outdoor work table some luuurve because it's really handy but it's in a right state!

    Old dog crates are surprisingly useful. I've made cat/dog window guards, temporarily blocked a hole in a broken fence panel, used them for shed window 'security' grills and - cable tied to an iron gate - to stop my mother-in-law's dog from escaping in past. There's almost always a couple of them for sale at the local tip for a few quid and they seem to last forever, even outside.

And so simple and effective your log cutting stand brilliant idea and the same for your metal leg table we all need a small table put things on or to stand on good bit of recycling and giving it a new lease of life. Keith, please use eye protection when grinding. I used to work in A+E and saw a lot of people with eye injuries. Tiny red hot shards of metal can burn straight through your eyeball then cause rust inside the vitreous. Otherwise, another great video!

  • @andyc972
    @andyc97227 күн бұрын

    That was a very productive few hours there Keith, it certainly shows the value of having a good sized weather-proof workspace available ! The fire guard was an excellent bit of re-purposing, personally I'd be a little concerned with either cable-ties or the foldback clips knowing how physical little ones can be - there is a product I found - try searching for "Joining Clips for Gridwall Mesh Panels" which securely screw together and there are also stainless steel zip ties that won't degrade with heat ! It's up to you and your assessment of risk obviously ! Great little overhaul of the welded table, it's always good to have some old roof battens and decking boards hanging around - so many uses ! It's funny the things that we routinely find ourselves reaching for that we would never have known would be so useful, looks an ideal height for many jobs, handy place to keep it too.

    An no tried several log cutting jigs. As I cut several trees a year and I’m always cutting logs or cookies for projects or building round wood frames etc and the X frame is the best design for larger trees/ branches. I usually have a 3 legged one that’s higher up so I don’t have to bend but I have the space for it, your one looks perfect for a home. There is a design I use for sticks and small branches though which is much better. 3-5 stakes in the ground in a line with gaps, the gaps between the steaks is how wide you want your logs/ kindling sticks. Then a 45cm ish space to the side and another 3-5 stakes parallel to the originals. Some wood scraps in that 45cm space on the floor so your chainsaw doesn’t hit the floor then load up with long branches and sticks, logs etc, and just chainsaw between the steak gaps. Essentially you’ve made a hold for all the branches and logs etc so they’re all bundled up and you can cut them all at once with the chainsaw at the same lengths without any kickback. The x frame basically does the same job.

    I made my log holder from 4 X's spaced so I could do three cuts in-between and get logs which would fit our log burner. It clamped into the top of my work mate. I also drive screws in from below so just the sharp tip poked through this helped hold the kids in place and not spin.

    Hi, your troubles have just begun, to make sure your baby is safe will send you down a rabbit hole that you might not even get out off. And that is just as a baby, wait until she/he starts crawling and then walking, you will find problems that you had never even thought of as being problematic. You do right to blur your babies face out, unfortunately the world out there is filled with nasty people what will grab all information out there and use it against you. good luck with your fire guard and the best of luck and happiness to you and your family.. If you think you have problems with your cat, I have a queen size bed and cannot get into that sometimes because the cat is stretched all over it.

    Cats have an amazing knack for disproportionately occupying the exact space you need, but they're open to negotiation. Like most cats, I find mine drawn to empty boxes, plastic bags, or paper, especially if it looks like I'm trying to use the item, so I put one of these cat magnets in a more convenient spot on the bed. Might not work right away if they're already settled, best to set up beforehand.
