100% agree. The main reason as to why we pull a sponge first is that the go-devil is more likely to get stuck in the boom. By pulling the go-devil first we at least have the boom empty of concrete and there’s no panic on the rare event that the go-devil does in fact get stuck in the boom.

1:15 you absolutely correct boss man!! I use one sponge on my 24m Putz but also I can suck it back slow and steady with no drip or any rocks falling back. But yes no banging of the pipe even on the deck pipe cause WE CAN HEAR IT MAKE IT BACK!! Don’t need all that banging and changing the rpm’s or pump stroke speed during it coming back. Just nice and easy and pipes are beautiful

Yeah man, great things can be achieved with sucking back just one sponge properly. Problem we run into with running a fleet is that they’re always seems to be those one or two instances which “properly” is for whatever reason, incredibly difficult to achieve 😂😂😂

I just listen for it making it all the way. Never bang on the pipes

Typically we only use the go-devil on the big-booms and really only when we’re pumping high cement ratio/high chemical mixes which even in trace amounts, becomes granite hard inside of the pipes within a day, which begins the cycle of buildup. Definitely not for every pump or every job, but works great for certain scenarios.

The go-devil just helps to scrape every last little bit of material from inside of the pipes.

Only ever use go devils for pumping out big lines with water ! Last time was a 650mtr pipeline. 1 sponges then go devil follow by 2 sponges then pump water down ! Safe as houses

We use your same process for cleaning out our high rise/placing boom system.

We never take the tip hose of when sucking back sponges. Mainly because all our pumps have air cuffs so it's a hassle to remove them unless necessary when plugging happens

Only reason we do is because we’re almost always tapering down to a 4” or smaller tip hose, otherwise we would precisely the same as you.

They work really well for some of these sticky/creamy commercial mixes which can be notorious for leaving residue in the pipes.
