Thanks for the informative video. I've just seen the V6 oil changes and thought it was a pain. But this one showed me even my 64 year old self can do it to my 2021 four cylinder.

On my first oil change old filter came off hard as well, they really must be torqued on tight at factory, only needs to be put on hand tight with a little force by hand. Second oil change should be a breeze. Love the simplicity of the 2.7.

Great video! Almost all the other videos are for different kinds of Tacoma’s, but finally one for me and mine. I am very happy that I do not have to take the skid plate off.

Glad I checked for a 4 cylinder oil change I been watching V6 oil change videos I didn't know they used completely different filter for the I4 and V6 engine

Thank you for the video. I use a cup wrench to remove and add the filter. I learned to punch a hole in the filter to drain it making the removal a clean process and not having old oil running down my arm.

My oil filter looked worse than yours after i was done lol. The first oil change was a monster in my Camery. Fram oil filters fit the oil wrench tool way better. Salute.

How much oil do you add? I saw that 5 quarts is added, but on the manual and online it says that the oil capacity is 6.2 quarts.

5 Quarts won't do it put the whole 5 quart start the engine look for leak shut off the engine after 2 min wait so the oil is all the way down check oil stick you will add just in case have at least 7 quarts on you won't be sorry going back to the store Lol...

I’m so happy these engines have a normal oil filter and not that shitty plastic housing one

Those plastic ones suck. The aftermarket ones at AutoZone are metal and are way better quality. High recommend to replace with the metal one.

Good job! I buy nothing but Toyota... Got to change oils on My 2020 Taco and My wife's 21' Camry xle Hybrid... While watching a video on the Hybrid - Guy did something I've never seen before in an Oil change! He pulled the air sensor and intake tube? Then used a carb cleaner to "Wipe" carbon buildup in the throat of the carb, While waiting for the oil to drain out! Wow - I never thought about that being a source of "Junking up the emission's system", (leading to faster oil contamination)? He also - Not only pre oiled the filter gasket; he dumped oil in the filter itself , about 1/2 way to prevent "Dry Run" when firing up the motor after change! Perhaps it was a bit of an overkill... but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, "Premature engine wear" in this case! I'm a little nervous about Her Camry... Hybrids kill mechanics because of the Battery situation!

Must toyota hilux 2.7 gasoline engiens in te rest of the world use 5w-40 sinthetic oil there is eny diference on the engien it self that made by recomended to use 0w-20?

Got a brand new Pontiac made in Mexico and the dingbat assembly people did not lube up the seal on the oil filter. Cut my hand in the process of getting it off. Pays to have in made in Japan or America.

You mentioned putting on a new crush washer but I saw the old one stuck to the oil pan. Should I just assume that you took it off?

Exactly, I took the drain plug washer off and put a new one on.

Should I run the engine to get the temperature up to normal operating temperature before adding the last quart of oil?

You don't have to. Just add what the truck manual says for the amount w/ new filter and run the engine for 15 seconds to cycle the oil. If done exactly as recommended you won't need to add the final quart at the end.

I believe when the engines travel down the assembly line, the oil filters are torqued with a pneumatic tool.

I don't know why they're torqued. The filter needs to only be hand snug to secure.

There is a tool for that oil filter 74mm 14 flute, I used it and it fits that oil filter perfectly

If it's a crush washer it doesn't matter.

I screwed up I took off the skid plate. Then stared up like a moron looking for the filter. Time to put evrrything back.

Yea, I watched a v6 tutorial and was so confused until I realized they are different. I just assumed externally they would be the same. I had already bought stuff to :/

Also, they mention it in the vid as well, but you dont need to take the skid plate off. The front two bolts on the v4 skid plate are under this plastic guard thing and are a pain to remove. I unfortunately removed it since I followed the wrong tutorial at first.

It is 6.2qt of 0w-20 for both the v4 and v6 3rd gen(2016-2022)

I have 2021 Tacoma 2.7 4x4 and it’s a complete dog. I previously have owned a 2007 4 cylinder and a 2009 6 cylinder both manual transmissions. I really dislike the automatic in my 21. Overall not too bad of a truck though and it “should” run forever.

2 hours to remove the oil filter and 4 holes in the filter, Toyota believes that this filter is an engine mount

Napa gave me the wrong oil filter. The v6 is different. I told him 4 cylinder. He gave v6.
