2.5L Duratec Turbo Swapped Mazda 3 Review - Easy To Build, Easy To Love!

My thoughts on a 2008 Mazda 3 with a 2.5L duratec motor and turbo swapped into it and paired to a 6 speed manual transmission from a Mazdaspeed 3!

By the way, the Mazda 3 was a rebranded ford focus. The Mazda 6 is a rebranded Ford fusion. I myself have the 2011 ford fusion 2.5l manual transmission. The reason I bought the Fusion is because I love the Speed6 however I wanted the 2.5l and like the looks of the fusion better. My fusion is kind of rare being a manual. Fun fact, the transmission in the fusion is actually the same transmission used in the non turbo Mazda 6 manual. I actually plan on putting a turbo on 2.5l, swapping in the Speed6 transmission with the AWD rear end. Since it is a ford fusion, the Mazda speed awd system wil bolt onto my Fusion.

Congrats, you have the most reliable, but slowest Fusion model. As stated, the 2.5 is exactly the same and in the same orientation as swapped into the Mazda. You can turbo a Ford Fusion no problem, but you will probably have to fabricate your piping and manifolds as there isn't much of anything aftermarket to choose from off the shelf. The 2.5 is a slug in Fusion due to it's weight. In a Mazda 3 it's decently quick.

Everything from the 2.5 is used from head to bottom end for the swap. You have to install a 2.3 timing cover, crank pulley, use your Mazda harness and a few other odds and ends. 2.5 head flows more than a 2.3, no idea why you would get just the block, unless you are changing out the bottom end on a MS3. If you are doing the swap, no reason to take apart the engine. You can get the entire longblock for a few hundred dollars and just drop it in after prep.

Stock redline on a 2.5 is ~6500, but you can rev them to about 7000 on the stock valvetrain. I would not go higher than that on a stock head. Most people just leave the stock rpm limit that was on their 2.0/2.3. These are pretty torquey engines with a lot of power under the curve, so you don't really need to rev them out like a smaller displacement motor, at least on stock cams.
