Ms3’s are now one of the best bang for your buck sports cars. You can pick one up for just under 100,000 miles for under $9000. Stock block can take 400 WHP or so and can embarrass a lot of the newer cars.

@@easycomeeasygo8901 Pretty much. The 2.3 ecoboost used in the Focus RS and ecoboost Mustang are Mazda "L Engines". Ford used to have shares in Mazda and they shared a lot of tech. The ecoboost has "updated components" (LOL) but the basic DNA is the same. If I had to choose one to build and tune, it would be the original Mazda 2.3 MZR DISI Turbo. They never suffered with the catastrophic block failures that the Ford produced engines are known for.

I have an '08 Mazdaspeed3 and absolutely love it. Quick, fast, great handling, practical, xlnt in snow (with snow tires), quite efficient (averages 29mpg), and extremely reliable. Zero issues (except the burning of oil in the stock K04 turbocharger during extended periods at idle, which is a known problem that Mazda has agreed to address [via replacement of the turbocharger] IF one's miles are low) for the last 80K miles. If it was rear-wheel drive, it would be darned-near perfect. Great car!

I bought a 08 new and it was my daily for 9 years (until I couldn't fit 2 adults and 2 kids with carseats). The stock injectors died shortly after I stopped dailying it and now the turbo is giving up the ghost but I always loved the interior, ok it wasn't upscale, but it wasn't a penalty box, and the seats where great for the GT versions. I don't have the money to give it a good turbo and fuel pump, but I'd love to give it good parts it deserves.

Awesome video and I'm happy to see the MS3 get some love. Seriously underrated car. I've had my 09 MS3 True Red since 2010, daily driven (even in the NEOhio winters). Got it with 10,000 miles, now it has 212,000 miles and it's been surprisingly reliable considering I beat the fuck out of it almost every day haha. With some minor modifications, these cars scream on the track. The feeling you get from passing $100k+ cars at the track in a $20k hatchback is amazing. I'm surprised this MS3 doesn't have any kind of rollover protection considering it's a time attack car. Also, 4-point harnesses aren't the safest, although they almost looked like 6-point harnesses and they just didn't hook up the bottom 2 so the family jewels are more comfortable lol.

run a mostly stock engine second gen MS3 with lots of suspension mods for track, looking for a relatively new OEM block, as a backup. Engine held up pretty well, but have something like 5k track minutes on the engine. A friend ran two MS3s for this race team, extremely heavy duty springs 2k back, for example, but the engine is mostly stock, was pretty successful as an actual race car, but the engines are rare.

Not until recently, with owning my 2017 MK7 GTI 6spd "real" manual, have I really taken an appreciation to the tuning world of hot hatches. I've made my GTI into a 430whp car, and have given it suspension, brake, and engine goodies to go along with it, but its so cool to see other people with their "tuner" cars out on the road. I still love muscle cars. I still love my //M cars, but these little 4-cylinder turbo cars are so fun to drive, and even funner to tune. Good job on this Speed 3!

I love my ms6, I've had it for four years, bought it at 78,000 miles and it's at 140,000 now. Only major thing I've had to do is replace the turbo. Should have went with a bigger/better turbo but it's a daily so I wasn't trying to go for big power. Did front mount, 3" intake, downpipe, exhaust, hpfp internals and tune. Even with the factory turbo it pulls good at 19psi.
