Just subscribed after this superb video, GREAT JOB.😎👍 Ref the diamond cut alloys, I have a Kia Cee’d GT petrol which I bought new in 2016 and its been a GREAT car however, the diamond cut alloys started to blister from the centre caps on all four wheels after two years (a Kia issue known to them on their own forums) but, despite their much heralded 7 year warranty they refused to replace them. For me, diamond cut alloys don’t do the biz and are not worth a penny. Back to the GTi, I just love it and am seriously looking to buy in the next 2-3 months.🙏🙏 Paul 🇬🇧

Thanks Paul 👍 Much appreciated. Yeah, the wheels look terrible now, the salt roads have taken a big toll. New tyres due soon so we’ve been looking at wheel/tyre packages. The polo is a good choice, not my usual cup of tea but it’s definitely impressive and growing on me. Now it has the 2ltr it really is surprisingly quick!! Cheap to run, well built and so far completely reliable. Just need to get Mrs mid life motors to agree to a remap this summer 😉

I've had a vudu ecu and tcu stage 1 remap and it's amazing, 255 bhp. Will say I've had a remap done without the tcu and it was very very hesitant all over the place. Nice review , I've had mine just over a year (2018 model) and agree with everything you said, especially tge alloys, had one refurbished already back drivers side and mine are the 17 inch. 👍

Nice, bet it must fly with 255hp. We're thinking APR for the stage 1. My brother had it on his Golf and it really transformed the car. Ecotune aren't far from us, so handy.

I'm retired and had mine for nearly four years. I've had it from new. I drove from just east of Manchester to Kings Lynn and got 57.2 mpg. Mixed driving (check AA route map if interested). It's a very economical car if you drive normally. If you step it up you really get the performance. And the fuel costs go up pretty quickly too though.

Many thanks 👍 We’re loving the Polo tbh. Really over delivering and very underrated. Wheels need a refurb in the spring, but apart from that all seems well. Would love to see what a remap could do, the engine seems a bit strangled at higher revs.

Hi, Mine is a red Gti Polo 03/2019 50.000 km already and I´m amazed , I´m a peacefull driver 70 Yof age....but with a goog back up. and with the 4 years revision etc...I´ve made some changes: DSG oil : Motul DQ 250.....better than the one as std, Plugs : NGK 94833, and since new, always 98 oct fuel and Castrol 0/20w Tyres are Continental premium contact 6 - 215/40- 18 and as I usually go alone Tp: 2.9 psi on cold all around. No oil compsumtion at all even at 50.000 kms and two weeks ago, made at Vagspeed which is the garage which looks after the car a stage one remap : before (std) = 204,5 bhp at4.700 rpm and 358,6 Nm at 2.200 rpm. After = 238 Bhp at 5.000rpm and 441 Nm of torque at 4.500 rpm. For me this is far enough and don´t need any more....I come from...: a Renault 4/4.....an Renault R8 TS.....a Talbot Samba S......An Alpine A110 - 1.400 cc, a Clio Williams and now this Polo Gti...is just another world....but as with mobile phones....since 1970 that I had my driving licence.....tech. as moved far. I´m Joe, Spaniard from Madrid and personal friend of John Surtees. God Bless.

Not sure if you have replaced the tyres as yet but highly recommend Michelin PS4 or PS5. Makes for a much quiter cabin, especially at higher speed. Also, in South Africa we at least have a leather seat option too.

Lovely car and great review. I have recently picked up a 69 plate Polo GTI+, with a very similar spec to yours - pan roof included, which I absolutely love for the rarity of it. Mine is in Reef Blue though. One thing I have noticed, there sometimes is a horrible grinding noise from the brakes when reversing. This is worse in the wet/rain. From some Googling, it seems to be a common fault. Is this something you have experienced?

  • @midlifemotors5050

Yup, every time you reverse the brakes sound terrible??!! Weird. The blue is a lovely colour, that would have been my choice tbh but Mrs MLM wanted a more discrete colour for everyday use. They are quick aren't they, like surprisingly quick. My little MX5 doesn't stand a chance against it on the straights 😢

It really is strange, I’m glad it’s not just mine, but also sorry that it’s happening as it can be really embarrassing!! Have you been back to VW about it? Yes absolutely love the blue. I get opting against it though, it certainly stands out 😂 The performance is surprisingly good!

You can only refurb back to diamond cut a couple of times. Better off ditching the diamond cutting. All purpose cleaner and a soft bristle brush for the rubbers. Then dress with one of the many trim protectants, carpro perl tends to get decent ratings.

  • @Theurgicnick

The wheel issue is unfortunately an issue on all alloys. It’s where a tiny stone or something scratches the lacquer off the wheel and then water gets underneath, the white is the following oxidation. If you Google VW white worm / VW worm rot you’ll see there is quite a bit in various forums. Unfortunately only fix is to have it stripped and repaired. MK5 Golf GTI’s with the “pepper pot” alloys where horrific. Great video! I’ve had 3 Polo GTI’s over the years including the very first one that came to the UK. That was a naturally aspirated 1.6L with 125bhp and was a right hoot back in 2000!

Great info, thanks 👍Winter has killed the finish on the wheels completely now. They're booked in to be refurbed next month. TBH though that has really been the only negative with this car. I was a bit dubeous when the Mrs said she fancied a Polo but it really impresses. Great (no so nowadays) little car. I remember trying the Polo (and Lupo) GTis back in the day. Ended up in a VTS Saxo. Man I loved that car 😎
