To say Jim Reeves was a country singer would be like saying Mozart was a piano player. He and Patsy Cline defined the genre. Reeves' Four Walls was among the first songs to define the "Nashville Sound" and he and Cline were the poster children for that historic style that lives on through them. Both died young in plane crashes, Reeves at 40 and Cline at 30

Yes Sue, Jim Reeves had one of the most perfect voices ever .. Ultra smooth, rich, and soothing .. Another extraordinary talent who passed too soon .. Only 41 when he tragically died in a plane crash .. Many good songs ( including this ), but the one he is most remembered for is the magnificent "He'll Have To Go" .. Watch the version on YT with over 8 million views .. You'll love it !

I've been a Jim Reeves fan for over 50yrs. I have over 400+ of Jim's songs in my collection. I'd like you to react to his version of the song THE BLUE CANADIAN ROCKIES as I know you love his low tones as for me my most favourite song Jim ever recorded is called MAUREEN I suppose it's because I'm from Ireland and this song has an Irish love story behind it. Hope you enjoy lass, best wishes from the Emerald Isle 🍀❤️🍀❤️🍀🥰

@@garybryson1900 As Jim Reeves said in the Oslo show I made a boo-boo. Although they were both together on the critical Apollo 8 (with Bill Anders) it was Gemini 7 where they paid tribute to Jim. And of course Apollo 8 was the poignant Christmas Eve broadcast with the reading from the Book of Genesis and then Borman said, "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas and God bless all of you-all of you on the good Earth."

Jim Reeves voice is a lower baritone like Johnny Cash's and they were also great friends! Listen to Jim's version of "Am I That Easy To Forget?". Ironically, this performance was just shortly before his death from a plane cash in which he was the pilot. The piano player, Dean Manuel, who was also Jim's road manager, also died in the crash. Jim's voice will never be duplicated. I grew up listening to Jim Reeves and Nat King Cole.

@@playitagainsue The video is called "Jim Reeves, Jimmy Dean--Four Walls, 1964 TV" The video is less than three minutes, he does a third of the song and tells a nice story to set it up. When Reeves said it was a hit, he meant number one and it also crossed over into the pop charts, a rarity. Of course, Jimmy Dean was famous for "Big Bad John"

As you said Sue, the writer of this was Leon Payne .. The other song he is most known for writing is "Psycho", and you couldn't imagine two more totally opposite compositions .. "Psycho" is a dark country style song about a serial killer, and is a bonafide cult classic .. Many versions exist, but 2 of the best that I suggest you check out are by Beasts of Bourbon and Jack Kittel .. Creepy but great !
