I certainly miss it as well. I did get to make a jump with a Laotian general when I was 71 so I am able to wear the wings on my SF Association jacket. I am almost 80 now and my wife has nailed my jump boots to a great big plank, so my days of flying a canopy are definitely over. I did get 193 jumps on 4 continents though. What a ride.......

I had just turned 17 when I left to the Army. I had nine parachute jump before I turned 18. Jump school first man out the door. I sure do miss it. Thanks for the video Airborne all the way

Yep, my Momma had to sign for me to join in 74, I was 17. Went through basic, ait and jump school before I turned 18. There were no cell phones back then. Lol

Proudly served the Eighty Deuce there with the 307th Engineer BN (Sappers) 79-82. Lots of fun and memories. I served 15 years afterwards with other Infantry units but it was never the same. Best training and memories were at Bragg. Once a Paratrooper, always a Paratrooper, stays in your blood. All the way, Comrades.

For people wondering about patches on the shoulder. I served in the 82nd airborne division from 2003 to 2008. I was under 2/319 AFAR and 2/321 AFAR while I was there..the division patch you currently serve in is on the left shoulder and the unit you served with in combat goes on your right shoulder. The reason people think it's 101 which aren't airborne anymore..was because every ones shoulder facing the camera was the right shoulder. But they were definitely in all American territory lol. Brought back many memories watching this video.

1-321 is now part of the 82d Airborne. A few years ago the 18th FA BDE was rolled up in Division. They still provide 155mm support with the M777 now. I ran A Btry's FDC from 2000 - 2003.

During my time with the 82nd (2/319th AFAR) 83'-87' would never trade the experience for anything else in the world.

Flying badgers thank you for posting this video. This video was taking of our units drop zone mission. The troopers you see are part of bravo battery 1-321 afar. I was the fourth man to exit. Good times.

The Yellow cord is their static line. It connects the pack tray of the parachute to the anchor cable in the aircraft. When all things work correctly the jumpers weight breaks the quarter inch cotton webbing securing the tray to the jumpers harness, thus releasing the pack tray and allowing the parachute to deploy in the minimum amount of time possible.

Watching jumpers going out never gets old for me... Whether Army or the very few Marines that jump, it's all motivating. I wish I could still experience this, bad exits or not... Semper Fi, USMC, 4th ANGLICO, (1995-99)

the 101st was taken off Jump status by members of the United States Congress. During budget cuts they figured that they can save money by doing away with hazard duty pay. The 10st Airborne Division Association and local business's fought hard to keep the 101st Airborne. I attended jump school at Fort Campbell assigned to Echo Company, 502nd Airborne Infantry Battalion 1958. Vietnam with the 1st Bde. "Airborne All The Way"

You're right. I believe the 101st was taken off jump status around the mid 70s.

Yes this is the 82nd. It's actually my battalion that I used to be apart of. The patch on the right should is a deployment patch (he deployed with the 101st). On the left i guarantee there is a AA patch. these guys are from the unit according to what the description says. I recognize them. AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!

I kind of think that they will do a better job of protecting each other, just like every soldier who ever lived. You look after the guy next to you, because you *know* that he will be looking after you.

Insane feeling of nervousness, fear and adrenaline rush all at the same time. Jump out 4 seconds later all silent. What a rush man.

2:50 there go the flaps. Once you get your 10min call, it goes a lot faster than it did here. Combat jumps are busy, once you get out and theres nothing wrong with your chute, or your lucky enough not to be still connected to the bird, make sure your not about to run into anybody. Then start getting ready to drop your gear and HIT the ground, hard..... But I loved it.

Eighty Deuce!!! My first duty assignment when I was a Second Lieutenant!!!

Thank you all for your desire to protect us, You literally go above and beyond the rest! 2 questions-1 why did you volunteer for Airborne? 2- To the jumpmaster, I know it's routine now, but how did it feel the first time you looked out into nothing but air? Me either. I wouldn't make it in the army these days. It has changed a lot. And not all of it in a good way. My buddy just retired 4 years ago. We enlisted together in 91. He enlisted as a medic and me as a rifleman. He later switched to a flight medic. Anyways he was telling me that woke culture and everybody gets a trophy ideology is creeping it's way in and ruining the army. Several years back recruits were issued timeout cards and if the drill sergeant was yelling to loud or hurting their feelings the recruit was allowed to pull the TO card and the drill had to immediately cease and desist. I'm pretty sure u can see how well that bs worked. In addition they did not have to pull 2 man fireguard duty, do their own laundry, and keep the barracks squared away. Evidently it was up to the drill sergeant if they had to wax and buff floors etc etc. Thankfully that bs only lasted a short time. But, unfortunately, the social justice crowd has made it's way in to the military. Mostly in the officer corp. But it has started and SJW ideology can spread like an infection if not dealt with. Almost all of Obama's flag officers were woke. Women in spec ops and combat arms for example. I miss being in the army and serving my country as it once was. But I'm happy I'm out

I was C 1/321 also. From 1999-2002. During that time the only thing going on was the MT firefighting deployment and Kosovo.

82nd, 3 registered. 504, 505 and 325. 3 Art bn 376, 319 and 456 note Pres. Harry Truman was a btrcom. In 319. In WW 1. There were other units as time went on.

I served with 11th Abn div Japan 45-46 next 82 49 -55 then 11th to Germany55 -58. Back to 82nd Deplo to Okenawa 503 c-319 c btry two year's back. I was picked to become a n instructor at Ft benning retired last day May 67 and I also miss it I'll be 91 in July this year

I was a Parachute Rigger @ Ft.Benning,Ga. Packed Parachutes for the Jump School 64-67 this kept me from going to nam with thI was only 17 years old.

Those static lines being pulled in at the end was epic!

I was in A battery 1/39th from 90 to 95. Good to hear that you guys bare still around

Thanks Troopers, my Dad was 508th during end of WWll...my 12B looks forward to jumping soon when he gets back to Bragg. Maybe he can jump as some of the same DZ’s my Dad did!

How high is High Altitude? Once that door opened, all the wait time until the initial jump, it was the suspense that was killing me (lol!).

Ain't jumped since 92 and these still get the blood pumping!!! 1/501PIR

Second jumper: Totally over it. He is not impressed with what he’s about to do. Go time he has a strong exit though.

Bad ass! I remember those days I still get rushes like if I was still there. AIRBORNE!!

Unit patches on the right sleeve are Combat Patches. The left sleeve is the current unit assignment. You will notice the Jumpmaster has an 82nd patch on his left sleeve.

Love it!! I miss those days. I enlisted as a 11x way back in 1991. I left for boot, AIT, Jump School, and Air Assault school 2 weeks after graduating from high school. Like a dumb ass I got out after 8 years in service. 4 years active duty then 4 years active reserve. I tried to reenlist after 911. I was in great physical shape and conditioning. Honestly, better than when I was in service. However, my back and knees were messed up by then and the Army would not give me a waiver. I am jealous of the young men that can go get it done. I mean that in a good way. All young men that are citizens and non citizens that came here LEGALLY and want to earn their citizenship should serve minimum 2 years active duty. Young men deserving to serve anyways.

In 34 months assigned to the 101st I got 32 jumps. Loved every one. C-130, C-123, C-124, C-119, SA-16 and an Army L-20. Would love to do it again.

We (1st 508 82nd) went to Murrieta Georgia to jump out of a C5A mock-up in its planning stage, circa 1967.

ACO 2D BN 504th INF. 82d ABD DIV retired disabled veteran, the jumpmaster kicked the first man in the door, miss the 82d ABN DIV.

1/321 was the best unit I served in my 20 years of service. Great times 2004-2008

I can’t remember my first jump very well because my eyes were welded shut. I was scared shitless.

Such memories from so long ago. First jump was also my first aircraft ride. C123... We put out twice that number of jumpers in half that time.

My dad was part of the 321st in the 70's, Still has his Beret in his closet, my grandparents threw out the rest of his uniform thou.

AirBorne, 101st all the way

When you make a ‘hot jump,’ meaning you jumped into a combat zone you get to have a tiny bronze star on your parachute wings.

The 101 patch o second trooper is on the right side which is a combat patch he fought with 101 in hostile action. The current unit patch would be on the left side. 101 doesn't jump they repel, with the exception of spec ops units, recon, scout etc...at Ft. Campbell. hope that helps

Yup. It happens. Had a room mate of mine get his arm caught in a static line and he is lucky he did not lose the arm. Caused quite a burn and torn his skin up at the same time.

Its always the last 10 minutes prior to exiting the aircraft, on static line jumps, thay feels like its hours not minutes.

Patch on the right sleeve is the unit you deployed with, not the unit you are currently in.

Isnt the 321 a 155 unit? If I remember right from when I was in the 1/39 a little over 20 years ago during Shield/Storm and stationed at Bragg the 105 units are all 319. So what Im getting at is if 321 is 155 and this is Bravo then this is my old unit. 1/39 was the experimental unit of active 155 ABN Artillery (Wolf Pussy in the Morning I'll never forget it.) to see if the concept was even practical. We used 198 (very heavy towed piece) and proved it practical. Good times. KNEE'S TO THE BREEZE ASS TO THE BLAST AND BALLS TO THE WALL. BE READY TO WIN OR DIE CAUSE YOU AINT JUMPING BACK IN THE FUCK'N PLANE. Love you guys. Here's to some down time brothers.

I do prefer the term "Deployment Patch" over "Combat" Patch. I think it's accurate a majority of the time. I've deployed a couple of times where there was little or no combat and I'm fine with that. I lost plenty of friends at Bragg in training accidents and none in deployments.

if it's on a soldier's right shoulder- it is a combat patch, not necessarily from the unit the soldier is currently assigned to.

1/39th AFAR, the worlds ONLY Airborne 155 mm Battalion (used to be nuclear). Was in C Btry 1988-1992.

Actually they are part of the 18th Airborne Corps Artillery. They support the 18th Corps with 155MM support as the Division Artillery Units operate the 105MM. I was with the 321st and it's legacy unit 1/39th.

1-321 is in the 82nd. They are assigned to the Fires Brigade.

LOOK at their equipment. Not only does it probably weigh 60 -- 80#'s, it is hanging below their knees and, in some cases, bouncing off their shins.They're having a hard time just moving to the door. I can't tell if this is a C-130 or C-141, but, if it is a 141, they were all proper exits....you simply step out of a 141, whereas you -try- to jump up/out 36" x 36" from a 130.

No AB. The last man to jump is the guy that you see in the video checking the door and looking out to find the leading edge of the drop zone. He is the Jump Master and usually an E6 or E7. Officers are sprinkled out through out the sticks usually in close proximity to their units.

what if you prefer one patch over another but you fought with both. say you went into combat with the 75th Ranger Regiment but your last combat was with the 101st. could you choose? or is it always the last unit.

We had a couple, but then the flight was from Pope to Germany for a Reforger exercise. We were the 1st year to use the Kevlar's, the Krauts by the treeline loved it, welcomed us and admired our new fritz helmet style much like theirs. I had been stationed in Germany 73-76 so knew a fair amount of deutsch. Had them feed me intel about where they saw the legs hanging about. We had NVS too and walked right by them without making contact. They had us surrounded in this grove all day, come night we creeped right out and bet they were surprised in the morning the place was empty. lol So many fun damn days. Everyone go get your canteen, add water and drink it down. Relive that nasty plastic canteen taste, for a split second you are back there, but just for a split split split second. Do it a few times and you start screaming where is everyone and even give out a few soul formed cries for the past... "All the Way sir!"

Not sure about the red hair. I have red hair. The only time i got sick was when i thought i was man enough to swallow my red man. Big mistake. Started checking static lines and threw up on my t shirt.

5 years with 1-321 and not a single hollywood jump. I'm curious why the #1 Jumper is holding on to the door?
