Ft. Benning Jump School/C-130 Airdrop

Ғылым және технология

Here's a clip of some of the 1272 jumps made from our C-130 for the jump school students from Lawson AAF.
Cameraman was a piece of tape, a foam cup, and a structural support in the back of the plane.
Enjoy!

The 1st of April 1967, April Fool’s Day, I started Jump School with some “Leg” yelling You’ll Be Sorry! Three weeks and five jumps later from a C-119, l had my silver wings. Two days later, I was at Fort Bragg starting SF training. I spent ten years Airborne with SF and the 82nd. Loved every minute.

I jumped from a C-124 at Ft. Benning Georgia in September of 1963. I love it, love it, love it. Jumping out of a C-130 over the jungle of South East Asia was a different story. What a blessing to be alive and I thank God every day of life.

Class 13, 1975. Last class to use only the T-10 main. Next class made 4 T-10 jumps and 1 using the MC1-1b maneuverable canopy. There was 1 female black hat who trained 2 female students, was funny running in a large group of men watching the mini platoon of 3 women run in front of us. Airborne all the way!

Last guy to jump clearly smacked the edge of the door. Ik he went spinning 😬😬. Hope he landed ok. Being first and last are best because you can position yourself for an amazing exit.

As a very old now retired Loadmaster hanging 10 was my favorite thing. Had a $10.00 bet with a Jumpmaster I could hang out of the 141 further than him. If I ever see him I owe him 10 bucks. I have always wondered how his 10 mile hike back to the DZ went. Only one to beat me in 24 years as AD Loadmaster Msgt 8th, 97th & 728th McChord AFB 😎🇺🇸

Things have since I made my last jump in 1984 while in the 82nd Airborne, I'm pretty sure it was a night jump from a C-130. The two main differences in this video is the location of the ripcord handle on the reserve parachute which is on the top now. Also as a drop master myself I remember standing on the platform hanging completely out into the wind stream checking on following aircraft if any.

It a but in the 90's. It became "stand by" instead "stand in the door". You basically do like a column half left or right depending on which side of the aircraft you exit. I went to Airborne School in 88 and then didn't jump again until mid 90's when the changes took place. All the reserves were MIRPS. Last jump was June of 2001 at Mason Ri in Korea.

For everyone here that would like to jump again, there is the World War Two Airborne Demonstration Team in Frederick, OK. We jump from two WWII C-47's, run a parachute school and remember, honor and serve the memories of those para and glider troopers that fought in WWII. www.wwiiadt.org
