Reading all these comments from you crazy Texans arguing over what BBQ joint is the best when it's all subjective. You should all be happy you have so many great places and support whatever ones mean the most to you without shitting on the others. If folk out there are willing to wait in line from the crack of dawn and pay a premium then that's up to them, it looks a fun experience, the meat looked incredible and I appreciate the video. I bet there's thousands of people across the state doing just as good BBQ in their own backyards too purely for the love of it. Here in Scotland we have nothing like this but it's slowly starting to take off and hopefully one day we'll end up with our own take on good BBQ but until then I'll keep plugging away with my weber smoker and watching vids like this for inspiration Take it easy Texas

When my wife and I went to Franklins I got in line at 4:55. I beat the next ppl by lass than 10 minutes. I was disappointed that they did not offer one shirt a day to sell to the first person in line. They should offer a shirt that says you were first in line. If you didn’t want to buy it they don’t sell one that day. It would be so special for those ppl that take up the challenge of getting there first. Loved watching you experience and I hope to get there to have the beef ribs.

Great video. Hats off to you guys for getting there that early. That would actually be part of the experience waiting in line with so many other BBQ lovers. Unfortunately when we were in Austin we didn't have the time to do Franklin's and settled on Black's which was also good but it was not what i really wanted. Cheers

Make the trip to Butter’s BBQ in Mathis Tx. It’s a small town next to Lake Corpus Christi off of hwy 37 southbound 35ish miles north of Corpus Christi. The young man that owns it is amazing. The only coastal bend restaurant to make the Texas Top 50. He’s only open Friday-Sunday but you have to get there early as well. Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The brisket rivals anything you’ll find in the state including Franklin’s.

Wow! Great video. I find it intriguing that you have documented the experience of actually being first in line. Many haters in the comments who have absolutely no clue how to live life and enjoy these experiences. Yes, you can order online and pick your order up days later and that is absolutely fine but do not say that you experienced Franklin’s Barbecue because you have not. Same with Cooper’s. Yes, you can go to Cooper’s in Katy, Tx but the real experience is in Llano, Tx. There’s eating and then there is enjoying life’s experiences. Don’t be dull.

Get some fly machines on the porch. Seriously. The owner is a real purist. He does not use a St. Louis cut on the pork ribs. He is smoking the entire slab. It all looks terrific. And it looks better than the Brisket we had in Lockert, TX which was a huge disappointment. Never caught how much it was but I believe I saw $32 a lb for one of the meats? Aside from never having tried it, I can only say the best I've had going across country was Arthur Bryant's (Brooklyn Ave) in Kansas City, MO. They fry their hand-cut fries in lard like McDonald's used to do. And they use a machine to slice their Brisket, which I happen to like. Thanks for this great video. Been to Austin, but never wanted to wait on line for hours for any "Q." There are plenty of great "Q" places all across our great country. For us, the best was in Kansas City, MO.

I don't know... Much respect to Aaron and the gang there but this lining up a zero dark thirty is overkill in my opinion. I get that it's sort of a tourist thing and a rite of passage to some. There are so many excellent BBQ joints in and around Austin now that I just can't get on board with the extreme nature of this. YMMV. He definitely helped revive the true central TX style BBQ a decade or so ago, so I have to give him much credit for that (and for inspiring folks where I live now to open places) and I don't want to give the impression I'm crapping on Franklin. I just can't wrap my head around the hours in line thing. It's as if you have to get there as they put the brisket on in order to get some of it. That said, I guess I just have to try it once for myself to see the value.

I was born with bbq sauce in my bottle. My family is 5 generations Texans. This is not to boast but a different perspective. There are over 2,200 bbq joints in TX. My grandfather, father and uncles showed me bbq all over the state. I can take you to places that are just as good (honestly) for $15 per lb. Franklin's charges $34 at the store and $54 on Goldbelly. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And waiting in line?! Never, ever had to wait in line for great bbq. All hype, I'm sorry to say. Plenty other places just as good...no waiting.
