This package was so different because the cars drove like shit and the track was worn, good handling cars made the difference and it was a fine line in getting a good driving car. Tire conservation made a difference here, not just HP. If you brought these cars back, you couldn’t replicate it. The engineers and crew chiefs know too much about aero now. This was truly a great time.

I was at this race when I was 11, seeing Dale Sr climbing up the field was a sight to behold. Even at 33 years old I still shed a tear when I see The Intimidator just shred and cut through the field.

What was it like? I only got into nascar heavily last year but as someone that watched one of the best generations of racing nascar ever had can you explain in as much detail as you can what it was like being there and seeing all these legends race

@@thedistractedcanadian4355 he’s good at intimidating at everyone. Push to get out of the way. Keep going race even body damaged and won. Many times he crashed, worst one than Feb 2001. He even cleaning his windshield during race. Too many history about him. Hell he’s 7 time championship

Damn I miss these cars. Every single one of them is iconic.

Dale Sr.’s stats on plate tracks this year was unreal never finished lower than 2nd. Swept both Talladega races and finished 2nd at both Daytona races and that same car also won a Gatorade 125 that year as well. I also think this same car is the one the ran in all plate races in 2000 where it won in its last race. The RCR plate program was always so strong and plus it did hurt having the best driver ever to hold a wheel.

@@Rowdy_2469 That was in 1996 in the July race at Talladega coincidentally he was leading at the time of the wreck and had one of the best cars.

The 1999 package is highly underrated. Extremely fast pole speeds around 199 mph with 205-208 in thr draft. The Daytona 500 was a classic and the other dega race won by sr had some wild moments

Sir I do believe that you're mistaken. The pole speeds were fast back then because with the qualifying setups they were able to use very soft rear springs to get the rear spoiler out of the air which caused the faster speeds. However it was not stable enough to race with so they would put the harder springs back in to make it stable enough to run in a pack. Which slowed the cars down substantially, even in the draft. From everything that I've seen, pack drafting speeds never really hit above that 195-200 speeds. However if you have some proof of what you say, I would love to see it and recall my statement. PS, I do agree with you that this package is highly underrated, it provided excellent racing that wasn't as luck based like it is today.

This package was great though regardless the speed. A better car could stay in front but had to manage the gap to maintain it. The leader could be passed but he could make them work for it. The next package made it where the lead was where you didn't want to be.

The magic of The Intimidator never ceased to live up to the hype.

I wasn’t around during the Dale Sr era but my family’s always been Earnhardt fans so it made me feel good to watch this. In those last few laps I was cheering for Dale like I was there, I felt like I was watching it live and it was awesome.

2:19:51 Here Comes Earnhardt. Gives me chills everytime. He drove like a man possessed in this race. The GOAT of Plate racing

I remember watching this race...ONE of the last great races of NASCAR.

I was 6 years old back in 99. I actually have little toy diecasts of about half the cars in this race at my parents house still

It's 9/20/23 and this race is still good today!

It's so refreshing to have a 60FPS race uploaded to watch.

It is. So many low quality races out there WHICH are better than nothing but some of these original broadcasts posted by NASCAR sure are nice.

Earnhardt was the master at Talladega especially there towards the end of his life. I was at both of those Talladega races that year thankfully and even as a kid I could tell I was watching something very special. Of course nobody knew that in less than two years he would lose his life. But I'm sure if you could ask him today he would tell you he died a happy man doing what he loved.

He was getting healthy again after some nagging injuries the previous few years. His 99/2000 was great....shame we never got to see what 01 would have brought

Watched this race at my best friends house. 11 years old. Now as an adult I have a completely different appreciation for the speed, tech, and strategy.

Thank you NASCAR for having these great races in full to go back and enjoy and enjoy...I cant wait till my grandsons are old enough to share stories of Winston Cup racing when I grew up. Seeing Dale Sr in this race shows just how much his knowledge and dominance of plate tracks. In my opinion Dale Sr is the greatest restrictor plate racer there ever was...

nascar was such a big part of childhood in the late 90s and early 2000s. Now we know why our dads loved it so much. It’s just something that can’t be replicated. RIP DAD

It is crazy to think I was 18 when this race happened. This was such a great era.

Im from Argentina I was 4 in 99 and the ps1 game Nascar Rumble introduced too all these amazing machines and sport. The best era of nascar was the late 90s, hell the late 90s was the best time for almost everything sports, movies, videogames, everything was better in the late 90s. I remember the hot wheels cars was my favorite because i had like 100 hot wheels cars from the 90s i loved them

This is back when racing was racing I need say no more.

Talladega is one of my favorite NASCAR race tracks.

What a awesome sight..... Back when NASCAR was on top.... Stands are completely full and the black number 3 on the move. I liked Earnhardt but I've always been a Jeff Gordon fan. Just imagine how exciting it would have been if they had stages back then. NASCAR is getting better but they have a long ways to go to be where it once was. Been a fan since 1989. Watching these races from the 90's I'm amazed more drivers weren't killed at these super speedways.... No neck protection whatsoever.

Still waiting for the day when NASCAR finally uploads the 2011 Advocare 500 at Atlanta in HD.

Strange. The last three times Dale, Sr won on ESPN, Bob Jenkins was not the Play-By-Play announcer for all of them.

Not to be a smarta$$, but actually Jenkins called his 1999 wins at spring talladega and Bristol. His only 2000 win on ESPN was fall talladega, which you're correct Doc was the color commentary. Actually side note Jenkins called his 2000 Atlanta win with BP and Evernham. I miss the broadcast team of Jenkins, BP, Ned, Doc, Bill Weber, and Ray Dunlap. They were a great team!

While Bob Jenkins did not call this win or his final one the next year in this same event, he did call each of the wins prior to those races (spring Talladega event in ’99 [ABC], night race at Bristol in ’99 [ESPN] and the spring running of Atlanta in 2000 [ABC]). Doc Punch filled in for him in this case due to Bob’s mother having passed away during this race weekend (makes note of it in the post-race coverage not shown here, but in another upload of this same race here on KZread), and would fill in for him the next fall due to the IRL season finale taking place on the same day at Texas Motor Speedway, which Bob had obligations to call.

remember when Johnny "shitbag" sanderson won the arkansas rally and then cracked the cocunut on the rival car and drank the inside ! that was 35 years ago but I still get misty when the golf channel runs those replays !

What software is NASCAR using to restore these older races? Hell this video looks like its HD. The 1991 Dayton 500 looks like its about 720p.

Bring back NASCAR with boom tube exhaust. Every one of these cars had boom tubes with a x-pipe. I was at this race at the age of 13 My very first NASCAR event Big Dale Earnhardt fan#3. This is what NASCAR supposed to look and sound like

This was the second NASCAR race I ever went to the first was the 1999 Die Hard 500 that Dale Earnhardt won also then he won the third race I went to the 2000 Winston 500

These cars were just so good looking

I miss these cars

Its so weird seeing Jerry Nadeu driving the M&Ms car. But see why as Irvan was recovering from injuries sustained in a crash at Michigan in an Xfinity *then Busch Series* practice crash in 1999. Ironically the same track that he nearly lost his life at in 1994 as well! Its very ironic indeed

Damn.....Dale was a magician on the superspeedways. 3 lives forever.

I have to say, you know, Im not a huge fan of Nascar nor do I consider myself a fan. But man as a kid I use to always use to see my dad watch these races, and I use to praise dale, still does to this day kinda. But something about the sport is nostalgic for me. Id love to go back to a day id be sitting on the floor putting together a lego set and watching this on a sunday.

Im just thrilled that i grew up in this era of Nascar. This is when racing was racing. Wanna "Make Nascar Great Again". 👍 its real simply. See the way these cars dance around? Its called a Ride height rule. Bring it back. And get the cars of the damn ground. .Not a Day goes by in my life. That i dont think of my real life superman. Dale Earnhardt

I love this race

Dale Sr's avg starting position was significalntly lower than his average finish, the opposite of other great drivers with 50+ wins. Most win by starting up front. Dale was (arguably) the best finisher, not a front runner.

Jarrett wins his only Championship this season

Before nascar turned into a joke with stage racing and now 1 lug nut. Moving the number on the car is stupid to. 1985 Winston 500 was the greatest race ever.

I always wondered if he was still alive 1. With the new car of he wouldve won his 8th 2. I wonder if he would still b driving?? I think this car is great for his driving style
