I was 16 when i saw this race and yea i remember what i was feeling when Allen said that. Literal goosebumps ice cold fear.

One the best last 7-8 laps ... the engine sounds plus NBC’s broadcast crew is like music

I've always wanted the Dale JR Download to discuss the last 10 laps of this race in detail. Jr got passed at least 4 times he shouldn't have and still won. And to me one of the greatest passes in Nascar history with 3 to go when he goes from 4th to 2nd in turns 3 and 4 and sets up the pass for the lead. This race never gets talked about.

Crazy how well those DEI guys knew how to affect the air off the other cars on these tracks. Jr is the only guy you see out there using side draft and knowing how to page the field to get the runs at the right time. Just some beautiful old school restrictor plate racing.

Gibbs plate program was incredibly strong during that period as well.

October 21st, 2001. Beautiful October day in Alabama, I was at this race. Got pit road passes before the race. Incredible experience, getting to see Dale Jr win was pretty special. Thanks to NASCAR for uploading this in HD. What a day it was.

I'm not sure if this is the 2001 EA Sports 500. I was at that race as well. If I remember correctly, Mark Martin's steering wheel locked up on him while cleaning his tires sending him into the grass before the race even started and also, I remember this race being caution free...🤔

@John Jr that was next year's EA Sports 500 you were thinking of, the 2002 EA Sports 500 was the last caution-free race as of 2022

Man, I forgot how much I missed hearing the crowd roar when Junior would take the lead

Always loved the sound of the engines on the in car camera shots , brings me back

That was a very special win for dale jr because it was exactly 1 year after dale sr won his last race at that same track

A certified classic. Incredible racing and a wild finish. One of the best Dega races I've ever watched during my 19 yrs as a race fan.

Man I just wish racing was still as good as it was in the early 2000s. It was so exciting

They Overreacted to the Big Wreck in terms of changing the Package. The Plate only needed to be a tiny Fraction smaller and the roof fin reduced by 1/16th of an inch. Not the changes they made for 2002.

Those moves Junior did when he went from the Highline and came down across 40 cars going almost 200 mph ,once when he did it to Tony Stewart coming off turn four on lap three and then when he took the lead on the last lap near the start-finish line across Bobby Labontee was the day I officially became part of Jr Nation most awesome aggressive driving I've ever seen ,something that you would try in a video game but would never have the balls to do in real life

I can imagine how angry Bobby had to be with Tony when he left his team mate to go with Dale Jr

Jæk dude, it’s remastered in HD. And it’s a good thing it’s not cropped because I had an issue with the 1997 Truck Richmond race where they cropped it into 16:9, obviously that race was shot in 4:3. So at least this is one is in 4:3 & not looking too weird.

Best restrictor plate package in NASCAR history! The good ol’ days of NASCAR. The package we have today fortunately reminds me of this package right here

Yup. Everything is the same except the roof blade. The wicker bill at least makes the hole in the air so the draft is strong

Great Audio & video quality! 10/10! Also I found out the reason Jeff Gordon finished 7th when he escaped the big wreck in 4th. He & Kenseth made contact down the backstretch & suddenly into turn 3, Gordon cuts a left-front tire in the process shortly as they came off of turn 4 which made him lose three positions in the final couple of turns. Missed out on a No-Bull 5 opportunity at Vegas 🙄

Ahhhh good old days. I remember this race. Gen 4 cars. No Logano or Keselowski, no COVID... I don't know which one is worse out of these three...

If covid ran a car, it would be the 19......I'd say it would be the worst race car ever...

Only 2 people in this still race today and that is Kevin harvick and Kurt busch

In my opinion: The greatest final 33 laps in Talladega history

Also the lightning challenge from ea sport nascar thunder 2003

Man I remember watching this. As a ten year old at the time I didn’t miss watching a race !

The move Dale jr put on Labonte for the lead was just as clutch as his 2004 Daytona pass on Stewart on lap 181

The moves DaleJr. Had to make in the last 5 to keep position was spectacular

I remember this race is what made me what I am today, I was 2 years old and from what my parents have told me, I was standing right at the TV in shock and just laughing and enjoying all the action and from there on out the rest is history and I've been a nascar diehard all my life and will continue to be until I die

Aside from the wreck, one of the BEST races I've ever seen!!!

In all these years I’ve never noticed: Jr. got into Bobby’s left rear on that last lap pass. You can see the sheet metal sticking out on the 18 car.

You're right, that flare definitely created extra drag on the car. Explains why Labonte was so slow in the corner. Yeah, the pack had some push behind it since Labonte created way too much separation prior to the pass to keep the lead, but he must have been ~5 MPH slower instead of just a couple.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins the ea sports 500 and the Winston no bull 5 million dollar bonus!

I remember Dale Jr winning the race and $1 million dollars from finishing in the top 5 in the Richmond fall race in 2001.

MAN Benson took a hell of a hit!

The spring race that year IMHO was better. Caution free, no wrecks, and it was proof that not all Talladega races need a crash

I’m writing this a few days after the 2023 Daytona 500, I have to ask does anybody think todays racing is even half as exciting as this? I’ve watched this race a 100 times, and there’s no adrenaline rush in watching today racing like it was then.

A big celebration for Dale Earnhardt Jr.!

This is one of NASCAR races after September 11 and it was before safer barriers and pit crew members and NASCAR officials wearing helmets

I find that comment very stupid. Did you forget that Ward Burton went through Ricky Rudd's pit crew at the 2001 Homestead Race seriously injuring 1 crew member or the Solid Concrete Wall that Dale Sr hit at the end of the 2001 Daytona 500? Both we're implemented for Safety Reasons and NASCAR has come a long ways since 2001

@@JamesCuevasJr this race was before that homestead Miami race and remember that NASCAR officials have to made head and neck restraints just before this race and I have watched that race at homestead Miami speedway and very next race weekend the pit crew members were wearing helmets and NASCAR officials didn't made that helmets wearing official until after that season

@@WAStateMonstertrucks Who says it better? the way Labonte was driving he was not gunna win the race, and Stewart went with the site thing the car that was gunna take him right to the front, and then he has to make a move from there to try and win it, Burton got in his way but Labonte wouldve too

Crazy that they would still race full-throttle to the finish even after a serious, big wreck right there exiting Turn 2, with a car stuck upside down and no SAFER barriers.

Simply one of the best races ever!! Awesome sound from the x pipes, great aero packages to allow good racing and prevent the stupid outside lane locomotive of today's plate tracks, and none of this stage crap that they have going now. NASCAR has ruined NASCAR...

NASCAR should broadcast the spring race. Bold claim: the 2001 Talladega Spring race is the best NASCAR race of all time. Bar none.

I really like this one, 2002 Aaron's 499 but I think my favourite is the 2002 Pepsi 400.

I'm just a'waitin' to watch this great NASCAR classic race from Talladega. Although I doubt Bobby Labonte will claim this to be a classic or one of his favorite memories in a race car, lol.

Besides the car sounds of the 90's these cars do sound nice.

2001 EA Sports 500 was a great race. Dale Earnhardt Jr the winner. Glad the drivers involved in the last lap crash were ok. Big hits for Craven and Benson. Ward Burton struggling back to the finish line was nice to see. Good job Ward.

I was in the stands where bobby flipped over it was my first race and my favorite driver won that day.

Had this race recommended to me, just watched it without knowing anything about it. What a race!

This was the first time I ever watched a full race while stream was going on in one sitting.

Only if nascar could go back I would watch race again. Just the cars, rules and quality of racing racing was better then now

Only Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch still going on in 2022. Jeff Burton, Bill Elliott and Dave Blaney have their sons racing full Time as well as Joe Nemechek’s Son who races Trucks and some Xfinity.

What a great team mate Stewart was to Labonte.....

Dale Junior and Waltrip were always a great team it was always fun to watch them race together

@@robertdurdinjr3638 I don't necessarily disagree, but there are too many night races already. I liked it better when there were only a few, because they actually seemed special.

Wild race. Labonte had so many bad breaks that year it was insane. He had an average finish of 8.7 when you take out all the DNFs' and terminal issues from 01'. That could've beat Gordon.

Dale Earnhardt Sr and Dale Junior were sucha class of Father Son Dominance that NASCAR may never see again

Dale Jr. outside of restrictor plates was subpar. I don't know about that. He had a very good race now and then but not often.

This Plate Package was more for the Fans than the Drivers.

Peak NASCAR and peak restrictor plate racing.

2:22:30 Don't you love racing back to the checkered flag while a big wreck is unfolding behind them?

I don’t understand why drivers can’t race in packs like this anymore. These guys went a bunch of laps going two or three wide with 20+ cars in the pack without wrecking. Nowadays anytime the pack goes 3 wide for more than a few seconds they just drive over each other and wreck. Is it the aero package? Is it lack of discipline?

How the hell was Jr able to gap them like that in the lead. Like that damn air bubble they would talk about

Back when you could really manipulate the gen 4 car aerodynamics and the driver really made the difference........
