Steve Waugh 199. He called it the greatest Test he had ever played in. The epic battle between Lara and Australian greats at their prime. Australia completely dominate the first three days of the test match.
Before the series began, Lara had been as close to disgrace as any cricketer can be. West Indies had lost heavily in South Africa, hardly putting up a fight. Then they were trounced by Australia in the first match of this series. Lara appeared incapable of stopping the slide. At last he responded by scoring 213 in Jamaica, an innings that caught the Australians off guard and allowed the hosts to square the series. It was the start of an astonishing sequence of innings from Lara. His range was extraordinary, like an actor who had played drama, tragedy and comedy in successive performances and triumphed in them all.
Australia dominated the opening three days of the Third Test. Steve Waugh set the tone with a rugged 199 as Australia scored 490. West Indies subsided to 98 for 6 before the fightback began with a partnership of 153 between Sherwin Campbell and Ridley Jacobs.

I remember this ...what a game. Lara Brilliant matchwinner McGrath.Gillespie.Walsh.Ambrose deliver wickets. Warne went missing. Hoopper.M Waugh.Healy dissapointing. S waugh good as always. Campbell gutsy Innings. Ponting Building his carrer.
As much as I love this it was a bit of a bummer that the footage ran out at four wickets down, missing the Lara rescue and redemption act, but thank you for what you did show. Fantastic memories from an all time classic Test Match.

This is the innings of brain that convinced me he is the best ever batsman to have played the game. Only a genius like him could have won such or viv. I can't think of anybody else.

Epic is pretty much right. A personal favourite. Lara aside the other dudes that made this special...J. Adams, S. Campbell Walsh and co... Special mention to G. McGrath he gave it everything. Plusses to S. Waugh, Punter. Simply the best.

This is still one of the greatest innings of all time in cricket history. Nothing can compare to Lara’s 153 innings. You can talk about Sachin, ponting or whoever there was or this days.

People also forget Walsh and Ambi cleaned up Aus for 146.....when australia weren't attacking to get a big lead.
Lara kept alive the legacy of Richards.
My first overseas Test match, What a game. And a litre bottle of rum, with coke, ice and 3 cups was $12 AUS 🙂 🙂

You might want to re-think that assessment and place Dennis Lillee and Geoff Thompson at No.1. There was no limited over cricket so do a comparison on Test Match wickets only.
Excellent fast bowling, by Walsh and Ambrose
What a shame seeing what WI cricket has become. Really want to see a strong Windies team again would be amazing for the game.

What got me about this series was how many of the Australian side was out of form. Elliot, Healy, Mark Waugh. With Slater and Langer touch and go.
Lara and Steve had better technique and shots than sachin, ponting
Elliott had a similar technique to haydon.Hayden struggled against great fast bowlers.dominated cricket when they were retired.

Hayden had a much better technique than Elliot! Hayden was still at the crease, whilst Elliott's trigger movements often got him into trouble against the moving ball! It's not Hayden's fault that he was selected when he was! Taylor and Slater formed a formidable opening partnership! When Haydos returned, he scored runs after improving his game! I don't think his achievements should be discredited!!!

@Sibghat Mansoor one series doesn't make a player! He averaged 35 in that series but 50.73 overall. Despite averaging 35 in that series, his overall average vs England was 45.65, so he obviously did better at other times!

Glenn McGrath was so gross. He was always trying to use bullying tactics to intimidate people. ALWAYS only EVER let your skills, talent do the talking. Anything else REEKS of FEAR AND DESPERATION.
Too many dropped catches and some bad umpiring decisions! Windies were at their very best in those days.
