Greatest Cricket team ever. The west indies I mean. And I'm an Aussie! Im 55 years old and I hated the way the West Indies dominated us. But now that Im older I really appreciate the skill and style they played the game.
So good to see "Supercat" Clive Lloyd batting again. The West Indies owed so much of their success to Clive's ability to maintain discipline and channel the team's efforts, and keep so many talented individuals all pulling in one direction.

Mind you the bowler was Lillee, the engine that generates pace out of the pitch. It was stroke play. Tendulkar, Virat have the great comfort of playing half of their carreer in slow Indian pitches - no comparison. Atleast Tendulkar (played more for stat) was though better of the two offering great shots in the cover direction even in paced pitches.

I remember Colin Croft saying recently that the West Indies batsmen were never really under pressure in a test match because they knew they'd win because it was rare for an opposition to make over 200 against that bowling line up. Some may remember the first test in England in 1984 when Bob Willis declared and left them 343 to get on the last day. They only lost one wicket in the chase! Anyone watching them during this era would laugh at the current teams being ranked as the No 1 test side now. Wouldn't get near this mob! DK Lillee was the key factor in Australia not being humiliated every time they went out against them. His 4/10 in the last session against them on Boxing Day 1981 is one of the greatest cricketing performances I've ever seen. Viv Richards bowled middle stump for a duck on the last ball of the day. Mind you the bowler was Lillee, the engine that generates pace out of the pitch. It was stroke play. Fabulous stuff. Lillee v Richards - the best against the best. Usually when Sir Viv got past 50, you could only pray that he'd get too casual and give his wicket away. One of the rare occasions where Viv was actually got out when in full swing, and only very special bowlers like Dennis Lillee were capable of doing that. If you could choose any bowler to bowl against any batsman, look no further.
Clive Lloyd innings was awesome ! These old games are something to watch, the grounds were huge back then , T20 destroyed the game 🤦♂️
Oh man that intro. Brings back the memories. 9 sport
Just look at that WI team,a balance of perfection.

Test match at its best. ❤

And yet in spite of bowlers like Glen McGrath, Mitchell Johnson, along with their current crop of pace bowlers, in my opinion Dennis Lillee is the best Australian fast bowler I have ever ever seen. Dennis Lillee and Michael (whispering death) Holding, so very special. Oh OK Viv was also very special.
The pitch looks an absolute belter ! Beautiful soft green-straw colour. ✔ Sending The Windies in? MADNESS. 🤪 DKL showing why he is one of the greatest ever ! 👑👑👑
It should be Viv Richards show in the caption. Great to watch the legends! Thanks cricket au.
Viv. Clive, Dennis, it doesn't get much better. Golden days.
Brings back the memories
Australia with Lillee too were formidable opponents
Cricket was something else those days.
Lille is one of the World Class Fast Bowlers. GREAT. Regards. Khalid Asghar. (06 April 203)
Old is gold. Today's cricket is lost its beauty for plying business purpose. I want to see the cricket of its old version.
1. There is no way that Seagull Clive hit 'flew away; lol ;) 2. What an awesome childhood memory/flashback. I remember cricket like that as a kid and watching the Nightly recap (on non-school nights!) of the days play with Richie.
Each era has its own legendary batsman/bowler duel... the 1880s had Grace/Spofforth... the 1930s had Bradman/Verity... the 1990s had Tendulkar/Warne... and the 1970s had Viv Richards v. Dennis Lillee 🔥
To me the cricketers are great to watch, but these commentators were in my lounge room. These people I miss.

Australian commentators are the best. And that's coming from a Kiwi! (Our Ian Smith and England's Ian Botham are also in the same league, along with Henry Blowfeld. But by country it's got to be Aussie.)

@@Oo-pl9zg Not sexist either but theres no good reason for them to be there. Imagine looking at mens pro cricket being commented on by former mens pro players and thinking -women deserve to be in that spot in the mens game and men should give it to them - the entitlement it must take to think that way. Tbh the people pushing it probably arent even the majority of the womens players, its more a political thing.
What great cricket, so many legends on display. But the best was Richie. Brown three piece suit, massive lapels, widest tie I've ever seen, bouffant hair style. All in the heat of the Australian summer. How cool is that!
The Les Burdett pitches were always sensational . The secret was the black clay " bay of Biscay " soil from the Adelaide plains . Also we have lost the Australia day tests these days
Viv Richards was magnificent! Never seen him tied down by any bolwers. Always on the attacking attitude. Who can hit the ball so hard like him?

Imagine Richards with a modern bat... Replacement balls budget would get pretty expensive!
Name a bowler with an action as perfect as Dennis Lillee
Look at the talent on that field? 70s 80s and 90s test cricket was great.

I'm not really a follower of cricket, but it shows how great this period was because I still remembered the names and faces of so many of these players, even Rodney Marsh as wicket keeper.

standard of cricket in them days was far far better than 2015-20.The Kohli's,Smith's and Roots are no match for what was in the 80,90,2000-2015.The bowing top was far far superior throuhout the world.
Clive Lloyd not out but this happens... One of the great cricketers of all time... 😎
Viv Richards facing fast bowlers like Lillee without helmet or hand guards. What a brace guy
Loved these nightly highlights. I wish they still did it. Miss Richie as well. The ball at 3:39 made Viv look ordinary.

Get a grip: one ball, the rest Richards toyed with the rest.
At 2:46 the greatest gully fieldsman ever: Ashley Mallett. He took more blinders than anyone in that position. Also one of Australia's best Off-Spinners
Absolute classic footage
It was sensational!

Dennis Lillee is the great man.
These are the two best teams in the history of the game. The series between these two teams were always abosorobing .
Despite all those legendary players and Richie Benaud giving his summary, the real performance of the day had to be the one from the seagull - an absolute cricket legend flying away after that, what a story he had to tell his Grandkids.
