Everyone do yourselves a favor and lower the spare tire out of the way first. Much easier access to that one clip above the tire. Also my plug terminal thing was mounted vertically and you can see which plugs go to which wires with the tire down and easier to clip wires back into place.👍

One word of caution about that is that most spare tire cables on these 20+ year old trucks are rusty and won’t want to lower or raise back up haha

Will the tail lights from a gm work in a Chevy. it looks like you have gm light in your bed and putting Chevy light in place of them.

Yeah, I put the Chevy lights on my Sierra. The only issue I had was the little plastic pecker on the tail light that goes into the alignment hole on the body was a bit snug. A simple fist palm did the trick though hah.

These work 99-03 also guys !! My mans has a 99 and put them lights on I have 02 and put them lights on! I don’t see why it wouldn’t work try it

My wiring underneath my bed is a mess. I’ve had other people hook up trailer lights as well was trailer lights in the bed for my gooseneck. The little post with the four plugs has nothing plugged in it and all lights work. I thinking about cutting the wire harness on the new taillights and just splicing the wires? Is this a good idea

Sounds like someone bypassed that light module at some point, so yes this is probably the easiest way.

Can you use the stock bulbs and harness? When putting a 2003 housing in a 2000 Silverado

You might be able to use the same bulbs, but you’ll need he new harnesses if you want them to function properly.

I want to buy those tail lights from the link you posted and it says they doesnt fit in my 02 silverado.. does the link still work ? And do I just ignore the fact that it says it doesn't. Fit in my truck?

Correct, the link is still good, just ignore what it says. It only says that because they are technically not 99-02 style, but they will fit.

My 01 has the same look underneath!😂

I will put dielectric grease on connections.

Will a flat head screw driver work to pry open the clips that hold the wiring harness?

I think the link I have for the set in video description was actually cheaper than from Rock Auto, but otherwise if you’re dead set on ordering from rock auto, just look up the tail lights for like a 2005 Chevy 1500 and these should pop up.

Help! I did the exact same thing on my 04 sierra but the break lights don’t work on either side… I went to “Pull a Part” and got the harnesses and I’m not sure if there the people because they’re used or should I replace the circuit board or what…? I paid $160 for the lights

Make sure the ignition is on when you're checking the brake lights and make sure the bulbs aren't burned out and that you don't have the brake and tail lights mixed up. I'm guessing one of them problems is the issue, because I think these tail lights would work even without the harness update, the blinkers just wouldn't work right.

All plastic will eventually fade in the sun but these still look pretty good and the truck is not garaged. It sees 100°+ all the way to snow and -30° in the winter

@@Cream_CurdlR Yeah if you’re replacing with the exact style light housing you’ll just twist all your old bulbs out and transfer over to new tail light housing. No messing around with routing a harness.

Never a bad idea when dealing with electronics, but not necessary in the case. Especially if you have the lights turned off.

These are not the same for the 2007 gmc newer body style, maybe the classic style not sure. The 07 Sierra brake light and turn signal are wired together for power. This means when you hit the brakes both turn and brake light light up. There's also 4 light bulbs in the 07 Sierra

@@TonyTheTruckGuy classic style and regular style are not the same, different wiring configuration for the tail lights. The early 07 gmc would work but the newer style 07 does not. 99-07 had 3 light bulbs 07-13 had 4 light bulbs and the turn signal and brake light shared power. 07-13 was also a larger tail light assembly compared to the 99-Early 07 model. The other difference is the rear control box configuration for powering the wiring harnesses. Yes they look similar but they are not the same configuration for the wiring. Take a Classic style and Regular style wire harness from 99 and try it with 07. 07 has more wires as well as more pins in the plug.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy Any way to post a link for these tail lights. You can see the 1 has 4 lights other has 3. This makes a huge difference when plugging these in to work. It configured power differently.

The link in the description should actually be the Dorman ones. I got mine originally off of Rockauto.com but I copy and pasted the part number into Google and these ones came up. They look identical but are cheaper.

Mine were basically a perfect fit. Only issue I had at all was the plastic alignment pin on the tail lights were a bit tight for the hole they go into, so it took a little persuasion with my palm to push them in but that’s it.

Tony The Truck Guy same set up got them off of eBay but the pins are different. Stock one has a ground for every plug.

I can not find a three to four bulb adaptor anyplace. The place where I get my annual inspection in Texas has inspected my truck for five years but this year they say the sidemarker has to operate. They did not care that the truck did not come wired for it. I bought some pig tails at junk yard to tie in to it but that adaptor looks better. 99 Silverado.

You may be able to order just the harnesses somewhere but otherwise you could try to snag used harnesses from the junkyard if you won’t want to mess with wiring.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy If I buy harnesses off a slightly newer truck with four bulbs will it plug into same place under the bed with no further mods? I saw you upgrading yours on here but the lights came with new harness that plugged into same place as the old one.

@@cliffperkins2339 Yeah I didn’t change anything under the truck. The little light module under the bed with 4 connectors going to it was untouched. All I did was upgrade to the 4 bulb tail lights which came with the 4 bulb harnesses and plugged them right in.

@@cliffperkins2339 Don't think so. I just ordered the lights for like an 03-07 Chevy instead of the dated looking 2000 GMC ones. You should be fine with just harnesses.
