1999-2003 Lexus Rx300 Transmission Swap with Rear main seal

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For video I used a 2000 model 2wd Lexus RX300. I hold no responsibility if you follow this video, advice and damage your property or someone else's. I work as a family/mobile mechanic and learned over the years. If this video helps you then awesome hit the like and share.
At the 51:33 I talk about the rear main seal as I replaced it.
I only used a motor support bar, 2 jacks, cinder blocks, jack stands, drain pan, and rest were common tools.

I own a 1999 rx300 awd. For the longest time my car would'nt shift into overdrive and i began to suspect the transmission. ran codes using snap on scanner and found 2 knock sensor codes. i had read on a toyota/lexus forum knock sensor codes would trigger the computer to not let you shift into overdrive(safety feature)..i didnt believe it until i replaced them both. havent had a shifting issue since. putting this out there incase someone is also experiencing the same situation.

Great video, I'm about to pull my transmission after a shop has had it out twice and it still leaks fluid. I'm guessing the torque converter seals are shot. I was under the impression that this had to be done on a lift because of the subframe removal so I hadn't taken the dive in. Now I'll be taking 2 days to do it in my driveway. My only advice to you is to use a paint marker and match mark everything that bolts together instead of scratching surfaces and potentially introducing contaminants to any system. Again, great video man. Good luck with everything else in the future!

You marked the flywheel for the blue/grey bolt. Was it because you re-used your torque converter? How would you align that to a new torque converter? Thanks

Overtime Garage reused the old one was still good. Only advice I’d give would be if you replace with a new one compare it with the new one. All data I looked up prior to doing job was to mark the bolt. I’ve done it before where I didn’t mark the starter bolt and had no issues. Just doing as I researched before I attempted this job

I would dry fit the fly wheel to the new converter outside the vehicle and match mark in the flywheel windows on the converer so you can see your marks when you spin the converter around to your green bolt.

What did you attach the chain to on the transmission side of engine to support it, you didn’t talk about that. I have the support bar but there is so much plastic and electrical I’m worried about breaking something.

@@joeymeatball86 thank you so much. My wife’s tranny calved and the car was just to nice still to throw away and I never would have attempted it if you had not made that video. I’m just putting it back together and fingers crossed, should be able to start it today. That hard part was finding a transmission. Mine is a all wheel drive so I made some mistakes with the transaxle but I worked through them. Thanks again.

Would you Recommend buying a RX300, I'm looking at a 2001 Lexus RX300 with about 130K miles. Good history of repairs from Lexus dealer. New Valve cover gaskets, Timing belt, Water Pump. But I heard that all these AWD drive Transmissions have problems and generally fail anywhere between 130K to 200K miles. Iv'e also heard a Remanufactured Transmission is about 3K parts and labor. The RX300 i'm looking at is very clean, 1 owner. The guy is asking 5 thousand for SUV, just worried that the transmission will fail and then I'm into the vehicle for 8k. Would you stay away from the car?

Jason WB not worth it. Got to kbb.com the value for that vehicle is between 2400 to 4100. And yes the transmissions do have issues and weren’t corrected until 2nd gen which is after 2004. The vehicle does sound good but the price is too high. If you can get it for around 3k it’ll be good.

@@alexr9353 Thank you Sir. I Think i'm just going to pay more for a vehicle and either get a LS-430, ES-350 or maybe a RX-330. Have about 8K dollars that I will spend on a car. I'm gearing to the LS-430...Nice big luxury sedan with the 1UZFE engine family that is almost bullet proof. Haven't heard of really any engine or transmission issues with the LS-430's. It's Rear wheel drive and I live in Nebraska (snow), but with a good set of snow tires I should be good to go. Thank you for your honest opinion.

Good video but you can't tell where he is half the time because of the black boarders. Only shows a third of the picture. Confusing to me and I'm a seasoned mechanic. So for someone who is doing a transmission on one of these for the first time..I'm sure that it's difficult for them to even tell if your on top or under the car. Get rid of those black boarders man!!

Danny de Leon I’d forget the size of socket I used. But I do remember using an extender and once you remove the air intake and housing it should give you enough room to take out. The ones that really gave me issues were the ones facing the radiator. Removing radiator would make it easier but I managed to do it without taking it out. Hope this helps in any way.

How hard is it to put the subframe back on the vehicle? Did you need an extra hand to help putting it up? You are very knowledgeable about the mechanical works. How many working hours from the start to finish you put in for that job?

Only made video because when I was going to do the job I could not find any videos for this vehicle. Only writing about it. Vehicle runs smooth with no issues and it was my 1st transmission swap. Came out alright. If you make a video awesome the more videos out there the better someone can learn and know how to do the job versus paying an arm and a leg to a dealership or what I call it a stealership lol
