I’ve been tackling the P0300 & P0600 After careful inspection, coil had fractures / hairline cracks along the side. I ended up buying OEM coils and the P0600 is gone. Also installed brand new OEM spark plugs However, the P0300 continues to come up, computer has been reset, the battery was disconnected for a couple of minutes but after driving over 100 miles plus P0300 pops up! Zero engine codes, all monitors has checked / cleared But that P0300 comities to pop up.

The P0300 is usually caused by something affecting all the cylinders such as a vacuum leak. Also check that the duct between the MAF and the throttle body is tight with no leaks or cracks in the tubing. An air leak here will result in unmetered air entering the engine and a lean, random misfire.

Thanks for this video. This is the best clip I have seen on this issue. I have one of these cars and when the orange light came on I checked a bunch of stuff and eventually changed all the plugs because at least one had been blowing gas back through the crimp. Runs a lot better but I still have the orange light and it's not quite what it used to be. I'll borrow my brother in law's scanner and see where I get with that. Cheers.

Day 2 and I am past Toyota tech level on my wife's RX300. P1300, p0300, p0304 so I tried swapping 4 with cylinder 6. No change. Checked voltage from connector and get 12v and 5v on trigger. Tried swapping injectors. No change. We've had the car 15 years and it's always been a simple coil replacement but not this time. I was then thinking maybe a wire broke in the harness like the 5v trigger but i get spark. Tomorrow I'm inspecting the timming belt cam alignment.

I have this same engine in 2002 Sienna and it has never needed a new coil. I am surprised by this due to age and miles. 210K.

Interesting to see the RX300 has the OBD2 connection whereas the Harrier had the earlier port. I had a coil go on a Camry with the same engine but had no engine light. I was surprised it ran with enough power but a terrible idle.

Yes, i learned i still have alot to learn... driving yesterday i had power but could feel it getting rough.. heading home it kept getting worse until i could barely do 30... hard and slow driving.. once home checked codes and have 4 of 6 misfiring... will use what u said to troubleshoot... 230k, replaced all coils about 4y ago... feel too old for this

Hi Ron, I would check the plugs in those cylinders. The RX300s came with Iridium plugs as original equipment and are good for maybe 120K miles, but 230K is another story and if the gap has grown to.045" or greater and the electrode edges are worn and rounded, it may be spark-plug time. Also, make sure you're not getting a lean-misfire which could be caused by either: 1) loose or damaged intake duct between the air-filter and throttle body (common problem), 2) dirty MAF sensor. If this is the problem, you need to clean it with MAF sensor cleaner only and do not touch the sensor element with your fingers, just spray the sensor using the straw provided pretty close to the sensor from all angles, 3) a dirty air-filter, 4) vacuum leaks caused by damaged, loose or cracked vacuum hoses could also cause a lean misfire condition and 5) a dirty throttle body. However if this is the case and you have a "drive-by-wire" throttle body, you need to take it to a professional and follow manufacturers' procedures as these early electronic throttle bodies could be easily damaged when procedures aren't followed exactly which could be an expensive mistake! However, if you have the old-school cable actuated throttle, cleaning it is much easier and there's a much lower chance of causing damage in the process. Just be careful not to drop anything in the engine while you're doing it!

@@Steve7SP i have replaced plug and coils 3 years ago (irridium) .. i am sure the timing belt needs replaced and already replaced front o2, having trouble with back o2, insult to injury, moon roof stuck open a month ago. Going to find someone tomorrow to do the o2 if i can.. whoever did it before cross threaded .. throttle is wire from petal... my rx300 is 2000... what is the secret to keeping serpentine tight ? Always ends up squeeling

@@ronallens6204 If the belt has cracks (look on the inside where the ribs contact the pullies), you're beating a dead horse and it needs to be replaced. Make sure when you tighten the adjustment that you tighten the set-bolt on the alternator bracket which holds the adjustment or its going to come loose and squeak. One last thing, if the timing belt has never been changed, it's more than likely stretched by now which will cause crank/ cam correlation problems and your misfire problem.

Conversely you could have swapped the 4 and 2 coil again and replaced #2 so the other original ones are in place

To get me home without sending raw fuel through and damaging the catalytic converter, can I unplug the injector for the cylinder with the misfire?

Depending on the year of the vehicle, the computer will usually disable the injector for the cylinder which has a regular misfire in order to prevent further damage to the CAT.

Some aftermarket coils are extremely poor quality, I had a car that had a really long run of coil problems until I switched to a better quality of coil. It’s been years but it was a major chain store that supplied the new bad coils I started to wonder when they didn’t question the second and third warranty replacement parts

I have had problems with misfires also and after looking at the spark plugs in the back . I noticed some oil getting in the coil and spark plugs causing hesitation and misfires. I noticed the grommets on the valve cover look out of alignment and damaged causing oil do run the coils . This could be your problem or maybe some vacuum hose since there are alot of them . Changing the valve cover grommets and gasket is a real pain on this engine since there isn't space so alot of things need to be removed to do that job.

Check your compression on the cylinder in question. and compare it to the other cylinders. There shouldn't be any more than 15% difference between the lowest and highest reading cylinders. If the compression is low, it will misfire and require major engine repair such as replacing valves or piston rings.
