Sadly this may be looked back as one of the last great decades of college football. NIL is now turning college football in NFL light and the great days of Osborne and Nebraska who have struggled to recover since the 90's may find that in order to get back to those great times may require a new way of winning.

Nebraska played #3 Tennessee and buried them, Michigan played the #7 team and barely got by... They may have split the National Title on paper, but there is no doubt who the #1 Team was on the field of play, and that was NEBRASKA ALL THE WAY !

Check out best defense Check out best strength of schedule Check out margin of victory at CO and Baylor Check out TDs allowed at CO and Baylor Check out pts from consensus NC Check out who was leaving starters in longer* Check out who got to start the NC a full 24 hours after the other team did. Check out who started most games later than the other team did. Check out who had to go to overtime to beat an unranked team Then get back with us on who was the #1 team was on the field.

@@michaelkenyon6173 What you refuse to admit is Neb's great game against TN can easily be negated by 1 of their worst (Co was the other). People watched the MO debacle and had it not been for one of the luckiest plays in college football history, we wouldn't be having this discussion. But even so, MO took them to overtime. You want to point the TN game only. That is not how hit works. Or we could compare MI vs WSU to Neb vs MO. Which was a worst showing?

Much flawed logic on your side. Here’s the biggest problem you’re having. Let me help. Michigan and Nebraska were not going to play each other during that season. So that Missouri game you love to talk about hurt NU midseason. Now you get into the Rose bowl #1 against a chump WSU team led by Ryan Leaf and they completely outplayed your Wolverines. The HUSKERS destroyed the SEC Vols. You are talking about stats but there’s an eye test. You seem to get that when you talk about NU nearly choking to Mizzou. Then you conveniently forget the eye test when WSU down 16-21 has the ball on blue’s 26 yard line and Leaf let the clock run out (whew lucky). OPINION settled these championships in the nineties: The 3 vs 31 votes also are opinions of sportswriters and coaches many of whom admit they rarely saw any or much of the games teams played in that they voted in the polls. The larger debate comes from national perception. After the bowl games Nebraska went from #2 in both polls to #1 in one of the polls. Based on thank goodness voters analyzing the two games and clearly realizing.... Nebraska was the more impressive team at the end of the year. That’s it you’re done. The HUSKERS changed minds. Outside of the state of Michigan, the country clearly believed that if the two teams met NU would win. That’s human nature. You see two seemingly evenly ranked teams and the winner steamrolls. You see the Wolverines playing WSU (who wasn’t the best team in their conference by seasons end it was #5 UCLA) and the Wolverines froze on the big stage. GBR biased opinion and knowing a thing or two about football.

John Francis when did a 2 loss Alabama team make the playoff? And what team was better than Alabama that didn't make the playoff? You need to first understand how college football works. The past is the most relevant thing in college football. If Central Florida or any team wants to be able to compete for a national championship they need to build their program into a consistent winner. What was UCF's record in 2016? Were they dominant in 2017? Alabama has loss a total of 14 games since the beginning of the 2008 season while UCF lost 19 games in 2015 amd 2016 combined. 2017 UCF against ranked teams won 49-42; 62-55; 34-27. Alabama against ranked teams won 24-7; 24-10; 31-24; 24-6; 26-24. If you can't see which team has been more impressive aka better then it's on you but obviously the majority of people understand including the voting committee of the playoff that Alabama was better than UCF and whoever else you're crying for.

Fulmer: 8-7 in bowls, a losing record against Spurrier, Richt, Saban, Meyer, Miles, Osborne, Solich, Weiss, and yes, Tyrone Willingham. There's probably more. He did have a winning record against Bob Davie, however. Unbelievable. Meyer coached under Davie. Update: Fulmer had a losing record to 19 coaches.

Each team had a show me bowl game why I should vote you National Champion. Wolverines with all eyes on them and knowing the stakes barely held on against WSU. The HUSKERS vs. SEC and nationally #3 ranked team throttled the Vols. It was the Big Ten Pac 10 tie in that helped but also hurt Michigan. It hurt because they had to settle for the Rose Bowl and weak Pac 10 Cougars who actually outplayed the boys in blue.. It helped because it saved the Wolverines from the absolute beat down they would’ve got from Nebraska. Sorry but when you come down to your final game and you can’t play the only other undefeated team in your bowl you better show out. Michigan looked awful and held on to a share of the NC. HUSKERS we’re physically dominant on both ends of the ball and earned their share. Two great teams HUSKERS #1 Woodsons #2

You are a stat guy on overkill( snooze) Here’s the eye test haha it’s all over the internet and KZread concerning college athletics. When team A and team B can’t play each other you actually have to look at them perform. Regurgitating stats (stats lie when you count on them most) Nebraska physically would wear you down. Your QB was mediocre. You had an excellent receiver and Woodson. They weren’t going to be enough. But as a Nebraska fan we have a tradition. To applaud you as your team leaves the field win or lose. So accept my sincere congratulations for engaging me in a hypothetical battle that was not settled NU vs Michigan on the field. That’s the whole point. I get to be right. You get to be right. And short of being able to judge the outcome of an NU MU matchup January 98- maybe just maybe the pollsters got it right by splitting the championship.

First of all, you need to click the reply in the thread I am in. When KZread sorts, your response will separate from mine if you're in the general response area. *"When team A and team B can’t play each other you actually have to look at them perform. "* Or you can look at results against common teams both played. like MI score 27 points against CO while holding them to 3, and Neb score 27 points against CO while holding them to 24? Cough, what! and MI score 38 points against Baylor while holding them to 3, and Neb score 49 pts against Baylor while holding them to 21. or times unranked teams took you to overtime. Neb vs MO (OT) or you could drill down and see if Carr and Ozzy were leaving players in longer to pad results In MI's best game, Carr took Griese out when up by 31 In Neb's best game, Ozzy took Frost out when up by 56 or you could just look at the strength of schedule and save yourself a world of hurt because it bottom lines all games for all teams. MI won that battle too. *"But as a Nebraska fan we have a tradition. To applaud you as your team leaves the field win or lose."* I guess that doesn't apply to entrances, ie OSU 2019 at Neb. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpWr0sabks-3ZNY.html
