I was in the last row of the upper deck during this game, which was where I’d usually watch. The difference that day was that there were actually other fans up there as well. And for once, they were Cards fans. It didn’t happen overnight, and sure, the franchise would continue to struggle for the next several years (their worst yr in AZ was last season). But with their own stadium, Michael Bidwill taking over for his father as President, actually drafting successful players and spending money, and developing a proud fan base who actually attends the games, this win really ended the team’s worst era in the Valley, as well as bthe apathy that surrounded the organization for those first 10 yrs in Arizona. A classic gritty football team that made Arizona proud to have adopted them 10yrs earlier from St. Louis. I've struggled being a fan of this team but watching this is refreshing. They'd lost a couple games to Dallas by way of controversial calls at that point, so to beat the Cowboys in the wildcard game that year felt extra good. They're the underdog team of the league but they've progressively earned more respect here in Arizona. This is the oldest team in the NFL with a unique history that started in Chicago, briefly merged with Pittsburgh, moved to Missouri and eventually to their final nesting home, in Arizona. The fact that the fans stormed the field and tore down the goalpost was probably inspired by the same thing happening on the same field a couple years earlier. That was when ASU (led by Jake Plummer & Pat Tillman) upset the 2x defending national champion Huskers and ended their 26 game winning streak. The fans stormed the field and tore down the goalpost, then paraded down the nearby bar strip (Mill Ave) with the goalpost.

This is also noteworthy considering what transpired that spring. Arizona had the #2 pick in the draft and the Chargers moved up by trading Eric Metcalf in exchange for drafting Ryan Leaf. At least for one season the Cardinals made the most of their draft day fortunes at the expense of their trade partner.

That was when ASU (led by Jake Plummer & Pat Tillman) upset the 2x defending national champion Huskers and ended their 26 game winning streak. The fans stormed the field and tore down the goalpost, then paraded down the nearby bar strip (Mill Ave) with the goalpost.
Goosebumps!
Damn that was clutch! You know he didnt pay for a drink that night!
@69elpato6969 yea.... i was 10 years old when my dad took me that game...I'm 25 now..i can't believe it!!!....we watched the fans take down the goal post. awesome memory will never forget
I was 13, I still have the chunck of the North End Zone goal line grass in my garage. Thank you to all the LOYAL 25K fans who would sit on the bleachers in September in Sun Devil Stadium....
I too taped this game as this happened!
I'll never forget this moment. I remembered when they converted the 4th and 20 to score, I seriously thought there was something that was preventing us from making the playoffs. I was really excited, but beating Dallas AT Dallas 20-7 is my most favorite moment as a Cardinals fan, though I'm hoping this year's team will make more moments.
excellent upload man thx!! cards been my team always even at sds burning up in 120 degree weather! nobody was there, now its sold out with bandwagoners now, thts why i dont go anymore, i hate bandwagoners!! go cards, get ur minds rite!
Is this the last "pitch invasion" in American professional sports? Can't think of another one since.
BEAUTIFUL!!! i was 9 years young cheering my ass off!
Man...i was 12. I grew up in a family of raiders and cowboy fans...my pops is a vikings fan...I'm probably the only Cards fan in my family. BUT...we went to as many cards games as possible. We'd hit up scalpers for 10 dollar tix! Hot ass metal bleachers... We've come a long way from spots of red in the stands.
JaguarGators new Chris Jacke field goal led me to here
Such a great call.
Great moment in Cardinals history.
If you're a Cards fan, you're generally not equipped with great history, or much winning. It's always magical when they make the playoffs.
Metcalfs dad was a badass for the Cardinals in St. Louis
That makes me feel like a kid all over again! One of the greatest moments in Arizona Cardinal history! Too bad the Bidwell's released Jamir Miller, Lomas Brown, and Larry Centers, the greatest receiving back in NFL history, after the season... Those decisions sent us to the bottom of the NFL food chain for a decade...
Awesome
this was big because the cardinals hadn't made the playoffs since their home field was at busch stadium in st louis....
People running on the field...wow, you do not see that happening now.

Nope
#13 kicked 13 consecutive field goals with the score being 13-13. This 3rd game winning field goal happened with 0:03 on the clock and they won by 3. Just a coincidence though..
I miss seeing Tillman roaming the field.
A rare moment that I held hands with a man in public! What a great moment!!!
As a Buccaneer fan, this game crushed me!

I bet it did. Cause had the Cardinals lost this game the Bucs would've been in the playoffs.
i love youtube for the videos like this talkarizonasportsdotcom
I was there. The fans tore down the goalposts and paraded them through the streets of Tempe. Good times.
@EBAMF24 Thats not Doug Flutie thats Craig Whelihan , Doug Flutie was still playing for the Bills at that time, he signed with Chargers in 2001.
25,000 fans because the 115 degree weather was way too hot to bear. now we have a stadium and it sells out to over 60,000. heres a fun fact it has AC!!! lol. my cardinals shall prevail

I. Will. NEVER. Forget that kick. I believe it was almost a 60 yard field goal, and I think it probably could have been made from 70+ yards out. I mean Jackie SMASHED that ball through the uprights that night, One of the better clutch place kickers in NFL history right there!
Eric Metcalf on the return for Arizona? LOL, did you know that the Chargers actually traded Metcalf for the draft pick that would eventually go to...RYAN LEAF????

I'm sure if the Cubs won the 2016 World Series at Wrigley Field, the crowds would've stormed the field.
How exactly did Chris Jacke end up with the Cardinals? I remember that Joe Nedney had been with them earlier in the year and he kicked a game-winner against Washington in November

WOW!
I was there for that game.
00:30 All teams mentioned except for Miami and Jacksonville, and including Tampa Bay, made the playoffs in the 2021-22 season.
You don't see NFL fans storming the field.
I was there.
Is that the voice of DON CRIQUI???!!! :o
lets go cardinals!!!! remember sb 43
As a packer fan. Jackie was only good under pressure. With all the missed extra points and field goals. He did make the ones that mattered the most.
I watched this game with my dad
Listen to the fan at 0:07 saying "He's offside!" He must be very observant to see an offside on a kickoff.
SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Cards!
I liked watching these Cards the best haven't been a fan of the Cards teams from the new stadium era.
The last time fans stormed the field at an nfl game
C'mon Cards! Don't just be happy with making the 2008 playoffs.....Win some games and give longtime fans something to finally cheer about!!
Old Sun Devil Stadium
wow i miss those days, although i'm an Eagles fan and didnt see much playoff action from the birds throughout the mid-late 90s i still enjoyed the magic of the playoffs. I think football was bettre just back then. I miss the old CBS theme and i think the new cardinals jerseys r crap.
Back in Sun Devil Stadium. dang this is old.

Hate the cardinals, but love those jerseys. And Jake the Snake!!! Awesome
Is this the last time a pro sports game in the United States had a crowd storming? I cant think of any. Well besides the Malice at the Palice but that wasnt celebratory lol
this is an away game for the Chargers right?
That was a magical moment. I don't think people who are used to having a winning team understand what kind of moment it is when a perennial loser finally wins something significant. This moment was topped last season, finally, and several times at that. Now the Detroit Lions are officially the worst team in football.
...and Beasley Reece!
