I was giving birth to my daughter and missed the whole thing. I had been waiting for it since we heard about it in school in 1983!!

@@everburn It was in 1983 that it was agreed between the UK and China that Hong Kong would be handed to China in 1997. That was the Sino-British Joint Declaration 1983

The only reason for the British government to consented to the handover was because we weren't white, it was a purely racist premise that made them think they didn't owe any responsibility to protecting the people of Hong Kong, who were born British on British soil.

the world is unpredicted sometimes?! We in indonesia after independence since 1945, in 2002 provinve of Timor leste ( ex Portuguese colony ) declare independence from indonesia! For the reason Timor leste is not part of Dutch colony but portuguese! Even though the government of indonesia promises to give extra autonomy status to timor leste, but in the end, according to UN Law, history of colonial master will always decided! Timor leste gained independence in 2002 ! It is also happen to Hong kong, if 50 years transition also probably end era of xi jin ping, Hong kong will gained Independence from China one day!
