"Sooner or later" at the VAMs1991, that is also remarkable. This woman is a unique work of art. Total genius, I always loved her and always will.

Streisand only sang twice at the Academy Awards show. In 1977 when she won an Oscar for Evergreen (love theme from A Star is Born) which she wrote with Paul Williams, and in 2014, when she sang The Way We Were in the "in memorian" segment, as a tribute to her long time friend Marvin Hamlisch, who wrote that song with Alan&Marilyn Bergman. She didn't sing The Way Were in 1974, How Lycky Can You Get. (Funny Lady) in 1976, Papa Can You Hear Me / The Way He Makes Me Feel (YENTL) in 1984 and I Finally Found Someone (The mirror has two Faces) in 1997, because , somehow, she knew none of those songs would win. The Way We Were, did win an Oscar, but it was for Hamlisch and the Bergmans. She did sing Evergreen because she knew she was going to win and receive the Oscar.

This wonderful performance came after vocal coaching with Joan Lader for 'Evita' film, but I have always felt Madonna has excelled at big emotional ballads (Live to Tell, Oh Father, Something to Remember, to name a few) filling them with emotion/feeling/heart, that can be missing from some other (considered) better singers. Well done Madonna! Simply amazing?

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim shares the same birthday and their ONLY Oscars were sung by Madonna. Also, both Sondheim and Lloyd Webber only had good things to say about her.

Ray of Light was released only 1 year after this performance, but, yes, without that great vocal training, Ray of Light, would not have been the same.

69th awards and Madge repeatedly says you must love her in a bigger-than-life Bob Mackey-esque gown (despite her lack of nomination). Life is such a stage!!!

She sang so beautifully. Impressive !

I bought the Evita soundtrack, watched the film, loved a few tracks, but this song seemed to escape me back in 1996. I remember a friend of mine raving about it and the lyrics. It's not until now that the greatness of the song has caught my attention. Wonderfully written song.

Um… she was nervous the first half of this performance and knocked it out of the park the second half. Starting with an ‘Um’ diminishes her vocal ability during this performance, which is catty and typical. She did great and sounded great. Period.

Being selected from many great & aspiring actors to play the part, Getting the approval, respect & honor from Andrew Llyod Webber, Tim Rice & Alan Parker is a big Win to Madonna even though the Academy snub her great performance. She doesn't need the voice of Patti Lupone but she's a great story teller & performer that touches the heart of many viewers.

Transition & reinvention takes time & talent...It's madonna's unpredictability to being held down & kept in a box that Scares the haters the most. But it's also the main reason we all love her so much more👑

Nervous as hell. We can notice that by her voice. The first verses she is so nervous her voice shakes. But it's ok, it's very difficult to sing at the Oscars. I feel like she was just delivering the song as it’s intended. Eva Perón in this moment of the musical is so broken and feels useless to her country now that she’s been diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Either way, she fucking nailed it!

Eu já conheço esta canção há imenso tempo, e esta é a primeira vez que considerei esta tradução do título. Embora ache que a que eu considerei até agora a mais correta ("you must love me" = você deve amar-me, não em jeito de necessidade mas antes como que um pressentimento, um palpite) pensar na sua tradução dá um sentido completamente diferente à canção!
