1994 - #3 Michigan vs. #9 Purdue
Going into this game Michigan's Big Ten record was 12-3, Purdue was 12-4 (half game back). At that time, each team played 18 conference games, so after this game, Purdue had 1 more game (against Illinois) and Michigan 2. This game was must win for Purdue to stay in the hunt (and realistically - at best - have a chance at a co-Big Ten title with Michigan). Had Purdue lost, they would be 2 back in the loss column (with Michigan playing 2 more games and Purdue 1) and have virtual no shot of even a share of the title.
Purdue is down 8 points with 2:27 to play. Down 7 with 1:30 left. Waddell hits a couple big 3s. Big Dog takes Purdue the rest of the way.
Another note:
During this entire stretch, Purdue's best 3 players (Glenn Robinson (#13), Cuonzo Martin (#22) and Matt Waddell (#11)) all have 4 fouls. You'll notice that on Michigan's last real possession, Jalen Rose misses a 3 and his teammate Ray Jackson gets the rebound. The shot clock is off as we are well under 35 seconds remaining in the game. Purdue has to foul. During this time, Glenn is guarding the ball, but knowing he has 4 fouls chooses to let time run and not foul out of the game (intelligently so). Waddell immediately understands the situation and begins running all over the court trying to foul the ball handler. Fortunately, Jalen throws the ball away with 10.5 seconds remaining with the score Michigan 94 Purdue 93.
Glenn takes it from there.
So, with Purdue winning this game, it looks aligned that Purdue and Michigan will tie for the Big Ten title at 14-4 in the conference. However, Northwestern upsets Michigan in the final weekend of conference play. Michigan finishes at 13-5.
In Purdue's final Big Ten game, Glenn goes on to score 49 points in his final home game in his Purdue career and leads the Boilers over Illinois to clinch the Big Ten title outright (1st of 3 consecutive).
Stand back and watch the BIG DOG eat!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting this! I was on the East Coast and missed being switched to the end of this when Syracuse/Georgetown went into overtime. I remember seeing 94-92 and then 95-94 and yelling "Glenn Robinson hit a 3!" I found later I was wrong but I didn't mind. Seeing the whole clip was worth the decade-plus wait.

Awesome video. I remember watching this when I was 14. I was playing a middle school basketball game and someone's dad had brought one of those portable TV's that you could carry. Anyway, we all stopped in the middle of our warmups to watch Big Dog make that running jumper at the end and half the team exploded while the other half sulked (there were a lot of IU fans at my middle school. Anyway, thanks for posting it. I still have my gold #13 jersey.

Purdue is a great school for engineering and the campus is all in walking distance. The people are nice, and the atmosphere is great. The campus is divided from the main city by the Wabash river, so the campus is very centralized. Unlike Michigan, for example, where you probably have to take a bus to your next class. Purdue's great.

EPIC KEADY RANT!!!! Looking for an epic presser by Keady during MARCH MADNESS 1990-93???? The officials totally fucked Purdue and Keady went OFFFF at the press conference after the game!! Musta rewound it 50 times to see the eggs and bacon fry on his forehead while he shot fiery arrows from his eyes!!!! Became a Purdue BB fan after that as I laughed and rewound that rant over and over!! HE kept repeating..."IT GETS OLD!!" "YOU GRADUATE ALL TOUR KIDS AND THEY WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF TO GET A CHANCE AND THE REFS STEAL IT AWAY FROM THESE KIDS... AND IT GETS OLD!!" CLASSIC RANT!! Anyone got that??

That was the loss to Texas in the second round of the 1990 NCAA tournament in which Purdue's shot with about 2 or 3 seconds remaining to win the game was blocked. Keady wanted goaltending, but it was a good block (no goaltending and no foul). The video of that play (not the rant) is available on YT. Had he had a crystal ball, he should have saved that rant against a good call in the 1990 tournament loss for the 1995 NCAA tournament, when Purdue lost on a last second shot off of an offensive rebound against Memphis in the second round, when the Memphis player grabs and pulls the jersey of the Purdue player in position to get the rebound preventing him from doing so. That is available on YT as well.

Haha Michigan choked again. I hated the Fab 5. I don't mind the Michigan teams playing now a days I actually rooted for them to win it all last year. But hated those arrogant punks. I wish basketball would be like football and give each team 3 timeouts a half if you don't use them you lose them. There is to many game stoppages in NCAA basketball. Every 4 minutes tv timeouts amd what I really hate it if coach calls T.O. With 16:05 left in half then 6 sec. Later on dead ball they have to do tv timeout. Heck if it's within 30 sec. Of scheduled TV timeout just cancel it. It drags games out to long. Plus it confuses players like Webber thinking they got another T.O. at end of the game.
