There was a recall on multiple year model Rams for a pinion nut that would loosen and cause damage to the gears. Dodge replaced mine for free on my 2005 model just a few years ago. I had over 200k miles on it, and I got a complete new rear differential out of the recall.

Doing this job for a friend and there's always something weird about repairs to his vehicles and just so happens that the differential had some weird stuff going on about a feeling but the pinion completely seized. And after I finally got it apart front pinion bearing was almost totally gone. The cage was partly there and the inner race was in pieces and the tapered roller bearings all fell out when I knocked the pinion through that's not the weird part though. The weird part is when I found the shim underneath the race for the rear pinion race. So I'm thinking that it would still do the same thing as putting it on the pinion shaft. When I first saw that I immediately thought well. There's your problem that caused all this havoc, but then when thinking about it, if you put it behind the race or behind the bearing, it's moving the pinion in the same direction either way. But when you put it behind the race now your crush crush washer is not going to be doing what it's meant to be doing and whoever did that who knows if they actually checked their pinion bearing preload but I bet if they had I wouldn't be doing this job right now. I don't mind though. That's what I do for a living anyway so just wanted to add my two cents to your well done video. It helped me out. Actually, I've done this about a dozen times on different vehicles and it always helps to refresh my memory

Since I use e brake so very rarely, what I did was just buff clean the steel shoe surface and then glued the pads back on using ultra high temp, ultra black rtv. Glued on 4 years ago. Still on where they should be and ebrake works fine for the few times I use it… which is on the boat launch ramp.

Pinion bearing oil seal that yolk flange goes onto. Yah. High mileage issue begins leaking you gotta change that annoying crap once it first begins leaking so catastrophic damage doesn’t happen. It happens on other older trucks and SUVs I have seen and even recommend saying to replace it. It’s easy job. If it begins leaking on the ground do not drive. You gotta change that seal because it’s completely shot. You drive you’ll loose all your gear oil and then damage your pinion bearing and possibly other things. I drove with a damaged wobbly pinion bearing for a couple fricken months after the seal blew. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ I needed my only source of transportation!!!!!! That truck was well took care of. It also did have over 200k on it. Previous owner bought brand new and he just kept refilling the differential even though you do do that your still gonna suffer catastrophic shit because that seal ain’t gonna last. Change it dammit. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Yep. Pinion bearings are probably a number one thing man

There is an easier way to get those bearings off. Cut the bearing cage off w/ a pair of wire cutters. Easy to do because the cage is made of soft material. Once the cage & rollers are out of the way you can place the bearing separator on the outer flange of the inner race.

Get that there pinion nut off...heheh I rebuilt my track lock unit on my 2003 durango, put new carrier bearings in etc, about 10 years and 60,000 miles ago, but I avoided doing the pinion bearing because my neighbor said it was nearly impossible to remove the nut. Apparently not. I went in there in the first place because the clutch pack was disintegrating. Now I have a gear noise in the back, Im sure its the pinion bearing so I guess Ill be going back in there soon.

I have been watching youtube to do the job myself for weeks now and it really didn t look that hard to do. after draining, removing the first first pin then the pinion pin (thick pin) the C clip did not fall out. So we pushed the axle in and out and wiggled it as much as we could but the C clip will not fall out. it does move around freely so nothing is frozen or stuck in that respect. So not damaging it to take it out was impossible. so I have a question and the question is is that the right location for this spacer on a 2013? is it supposed to be between the bearing and the gear like you showed in your video or is it supposed to be between the race and the rear end?
