I had a 1997 VFR 750 and it would have to be the ultimate riding machine.Even 10+ years after I gave up motorcycling I still miss my bike.I purchased it brand new from Cyclespot in Auckland, New Zealand and sold it 10 years later with 175,000km on it.Still ran a good as the day I got it.Always used Motul oil and Ifitted a scottoiler for the chain(80,000km for chain and sprockets) I now have a boat I can take my family and friends fishing on all year round.If anyone has the chance to tour the South Island of New Zealand, DO IT!!! The roads are made for the VFR 750 or any motorcycle for that matter.

Thanks for a nice review of this generation VFR. I've had a '95, '99, '03 and the current model. Each has a distinct personality, but the 4th gen you reviewed is even after 20 years a delightful ride.

we have had one for about 12 years and it is awesome! super comfortable two up, we have done somewhere north of 40,000 miles in UK and in Europe and despite thinking we should retire it, we cant find anything anywhere near as good.

Own a 94 for about 16 months 10000 additional miles ridden . Ride 2 up a lot. Added mra screen, fog light and panniers.

I've had my VFR 750 F RC36 since 2009. I've had it so long simply because I would struggle to find anything alike without unnecessarily losing cash.

I had a brand new purple 750 fv for 6 weeks before it was knicked and love it to bits. When I got paid out the new 800 had arrived so I bought a silver one - what a load of absolute crap it was !!!! The 750 was a much better bike in all respects, so I didn't buy one. When the 800-vtec came out I had to try one. What a difference ! It was a brilliant bike, with a great engine, fantastic brakes and INCREDIBLE lights, finally I could ride through the night and still see where I was going. Also the aerodynamic problems of the old 800 were gone. The vtec version felt like a totally new, different bike.

I just bought a 2003 VFR800 for $5000 us with 10k miles. Full triple givi pkg. I love it.

It's clear the "2000" in the title relates to the year this 2nd hand VFR750 Gen4 review was filmed, found the comment on it " looking a bit boring, a bit plain Jane " interesting in that the NR inspired Gen4 is often considered by many VFR owners as the prettiest.

i had an 86 gen1, i loved it, that almost swiss watch feel to the engine :) , i agree the gen4 is the prettiest vfr ever made

it's a lovely bike to ride" so forgiving and comfy!!

Please change the title already. It's a 1994-1997 VFR750. From 1998-2001 it was the VFR800FI (non-VTEC). Even MCN gets it wrong (they say 1995-1998). To set the record straight: 3rd generation VFR = VFR750F RC36-I made 1990-1993. 4th generation VFR = VFR750F RC36-II made 1994-1997. 5th generation VFR = VFR800FI RC46-I made 1998-2001. 6th generation VFR = VFR800FI RC46-II made 2002-2010 (VTEC). Then people argue about the VFR1200F (SC63) being the 7th gen or not. If this denomination is accepted then... 8th generation VFR = VFR800F RC79 made 2014-current (VTEC). Just for the record's sake. Peace.

Doubt it's a 2000 model when, as he said, they stopped making them in '98.

Now these go for between £1500-£2000 with 35k-50k. I'm looking at a 1996 £1700 42k this week.

The 800 has slightly more torque due to the larger displacement, but top speed is around the same at ~145mph.

jp59160 we got ours up to 139mph, two up, on a freezing cold day on the M5. Not recommended due to the hideous cold but awesome fun!

I get about 40mpg just cruising. The engine character is very unique and makes even a slow ride enjoyable. What kind of bike you have/ type of riding?

I read in a magazine that many owners are hesitant to to change their 750’s for the 800’s, regarding them as inferior with more weight & that linked braking system ..

i've heard your right leg get REALLY hot on these bikes is that true??

Never had that problem, but i haven't used it in really warm weather. i live in the Netherlands. I do love the bike though.

lillnemo1 When you say, "these bikes", if you mean vfr's or honda sport tourers, they do not particularly have such a disturbing heating problem. However if you ride süper sport bikes like R1, S1000RR, panigale, zx10r; especially when you ride them in busy traffic and especially in hot weather, they will get most of your lower body hot.

I would not call this a particularly comfortable bike, nor the world's most comfortable bike lol! It's just a slightly comfortable sports bike. After a long spirited ride my wrists started to hurt. Then I tried an ST1300, now that is what I would call world's most comfortable bike, and it goes like stink as well. Sports Touring is what an ST1300 is, it's a sporty touring bike, with true meaning of touring. VFR is just a comfy sports bike. Wrong nomenclature.
