Great video. Thank you for spreading the VFR gospel. These are amazing machines. I started riding in the dirt as at five, started commuting on a motorcycle at 16, and now at 43 I have spent my life riding and have had many bikes of many flavors. My 1998 VFR is without doubt the best overall motorcycle that I have ever owned (I've had 13 to date). I have ridden it across the US (and back), done several track days, and lastly literally ride it every day as my commuter (I'm in CA, so I'm able to ride year-round). These are truly the last/only bike you'll ever need.

I'm jealous of you in CA,able to drive all year round.Right now it's 0 degrees Celsius and the roads are starting to ice over.Safe riding brother and enjoy the viffer!

750 is NOT the last model with gear driven cams, first generation of 800cc (rc 46) has gear driven cams, the next Vtec model has chains

Now this is a detailed video of a real owner of its bike. Good job!

Picked up a 99 with 7800miles on it earlier this month and LOVE iT. Been wanting a vfr ever since I rode on te back of a 91 when still a kid ;)

I have a 97 VFR that I've bought new. I have 42k on it. Cashed two voltage regulator/rectifier modules, so I always carry a VOM and a trickle charger on long trips so I can verify a no charging problem. A fully charged battery will get you about 150 miles before ignition quits. Unplug one headlight avoid using the starter if possible to get a few more miles. I'm 72 years old and my VFR and I are just waiting to see which one quits first. The VFR gets treated like my lady friends, neither getting rode as much as they used too.

My first bike was 97 vfr. I loved it! Great sound, great torque. It's not a race bike but I treated her like one. Learned my wheelies and stoppies on this bike.

I like the idea of keeping the stock exhaust, as it's not exactly a race bike, but they just sound SO good with a full Delkevic system, in fact I can't think of a better sounding bike, even Ducatis and Aprilias don't come close.

Ageed, over the years I have put on loud exhausts on a number of bikes, BUT it drowns out the engine and induction noise. That V4 on standard exhausts allows the full effect of the motor to be listened to. Its a wonderful configuration.

I know I'm late to the party, but that's a lovely bike you've got in almost mint condition. I bought my '96 s/hand in 2002 with 36K km on it - it's now got ~160K on the clock, it runs like it just rolled out of the dealership and I'm never selling it. At a touch under 13,000 miles, yours isn't even run-in yet. If you keep it serviced the engine will do mileages that car owners would be proud of (the record is 442,000 miles on a '90 VFR750). [edited to add] Years ago, the old saying about the late VFR750's was "Whatever you paid for it, you got a bargain". And I think it's still true. [/edit]

Hey, nice to see someone putting up a decent video that doesn't involve racing or wheelies. I have the same model 1994 and original like yours. I got mine for nothing as it was abandoned and after police tried contacting the owner with no luck it become mine. It needed work done to it such as cracked fairing, fork oil seal, clutch, new pads and discs plus locks and its a lovely bike to ride. If you use if for what it's made for it's good enough. I also have a gsx 750f and even though they are similar in weight the VFR is better balanced for slow speed control. My insurance in £130 a year for both so it's cheap to insure. I believe the Yamaha FJ1200 1991 had ABS 24 years ago. Thanks.

The 750 is my favourite of the vfr f models. I have the earlier 91 model in black with the white wheels that remind me of the amazing rc30(a bike I came close to owning when I was 20 something except for norwich having a panic attack on the phone.. they gave me a quote for a bit 750 and when I called back to relay the details so I could insure the bike so I could pay for and drive it back home the broker had a fit over that little detail being the letter "r", let me know in no uncertain terms that the vfr750r was a no go.. I ended up getting the rc36 a few years later and the insurance was next to nothing. Shes black with stickers and white wheels, I'm divided between the two. I love this one in the red colour reminds me of Ferrari testosterone also looks a lot like that rare beast of a honda, possibly my number one dream bike, the nr 750. If I had the space I'd get both, I was considering selling one of the bikes to get one just like yours with low miles and very minor damage to the front at the side and under 2 g's but I need to put some money into the one I have first needs tyres chain, pads soon and the usual suspects.. I've regretted selling some bikes but having a vfr makes it all ok. It's great they are so common but nothing lasts forever so I'd say get a good one even get a low mileage spare one and look after them they'll serve you well. The gear cam v4 is the best motor around bulletproof and that sound is like music

I have only just bought one of these as my first bike! black and gold colour, its a bit of a fixer upper as I go along and learn more about bikes, and yes mine has the common rotted midpipe section and it sounds like an unchained demon!

Nice bike fella, I've just bought an almost identical one, totally original only 62,000 KM (38,000 miles) runs like a swiss watch! Now just need to find the single seat cowl in Pure Red (discontinued part ) then they will be twins. Its being delivered in the next week - cant wait !!!!

Thanks for the review. It makes me miss my 95 VFR bought off the showroom floor. I must have sat on that bike for a month before purchasing it. Man do I miss it!

Nice video. I too have one of these with several videos on YT. Mine are nicely filmed, but must be as boring as hell, so once the sun arrives this year will try & improve. My VFR 750 I have owned from new & is now 20 years old. It has amongst other mods. Harris 6 pot callipers & braided hose. I agree with you the brakes are poor as they are only single side twin pots. keep safe.

Nice Vid. I have a 97 in green with just under 7000 miles, yes 7, not 70. Mine's as immaculate as yours looks to be and I am as happy with it as you seem to be with yours. You can get more than 200 per tank on a long run but I get less normally due to faster riding on country roads here in France. Anyway, enjoy and stay safe.

Wow 7000!,you were lucky to get that bike.I always loved the green colour,I think it's as nice as the red.Yeh if I was on the motorway I would prob do over 200.You should post a bid of your bike up, I'd love to see it!

Very good review, I own this same model and agree with everything, even tank range. Mine averages 52mpg and I've done about 6k miles on it now and logged every fuel fill up. My feedback would be the weight is excessive and feels top heavy when manoeuvring it around, ie parking or in your garage etc but as soon as you are rolling it becomes very stable and sure footed. Braided hoses and a caliper strip down does make a noticeable difference a but ultimately you need to give the lever a big pull if at speed. Perhaps too I'd like longer and wider spaced lower gears as they are quite close ratio but suits the bike well if getting a move on. Other than that the review echoes my thoughts on the bike. Worth mentioning the build quality is top rate, and much much better than new bikes made today.

I had a blue one of those. Purchased it new in 1997. It was a great bike. The clutch got a bit chatty after a few months but that was probably from pulling mono's on it. Apart from that it never missed a beat. Rode it from Sydney to Alice Springs then it became my courier bike for about a year after that and then I sold it because I needed the cash. Thinking about getting another one but after all those years are there any good low miles one left? Thanks for the vid and bringing back some memories :)

Great review..."whatever it needs it gets"...my philosophy exactly. Currently considering a '95 with 37,000 kms on it on Vancouver Island BC. I ride an '02 CBR600 F4i which is marginally more comfortable than a CBR600RR, but the VFR would be a nice change...as you said...'comfy'. Thanks for brief yet informative review.

I only seen one for sale in Ireland recently, think it was 92, spotless. They are still around.

Ive just killed my 5th gen vfr(the first 800) and of course I'm gutted. Ive got to say though, your 700 looks fantastic; I prefer the look of your integrated indicator lights over the 800 model. I admire you sticking with the factory exhaust although an after market one does really improve the sound coming out of that v4. Mine was also red and tbh you have to look twice to see the differences between the two models. Lovely bike mate. Ride safe.

How much did she Costa? , shes verta low milage ...

cams are gear driven until gen 6 2002 - making the gen5 the favorite

I have the same one, also '97 Love the sound, that was the reason i fell for it. Bought it with 47.000 (Kilometers) (under 30.000 miles) on the counter :) Watch my vid too, VFR 750 ride in the Netherlands.

98' model with FI has gear driven cams, on the VTEC model they changed it.

mint bike and a great honest review you should review other bikes too . I really fancy one myself after sitting on an vfr 800 I love the sound of the engine . they sound fantastic with an end can but I wouldn't like the attention or to announce my arrival to a cop with a speed gun also harder to ear an unusual engine sounds with a loud pipe . I see them as an affordable alternative to an rc30 . but it has to be a 94 to 97 for me I would prefer red paint too apart from a decant size top case and scottoiler I would leave it stock and just keep it in good order . I rode a 95 model back in 99 and liked it a lot . my next bike will most lightly be a vfr .

Yeh they are great bike with a lovely power band,keep your eyes peeled for a minter - they do come up for sale every now and then.I agree they look best in red,make sure it has the rear seat cowl and grab handles,sometimes can be hard to get.Good luck and safe riding brother!

First 800 had gear driven cams it's the VTEC version 2003 onwards that don't have gear driven cams...

From a fellow Irish man. Great vid. I'm looking to get a vfr. Plenty of choice around, just don't know which to pick. Early 750's, late 750's or early 800's 🤔

Cheers man. I actually sold the one in this video years ago and regretted it. I went through various different bikes through the years, had an 800 vtec for a while also. I always missed the 97 750 and I literally just bought another one a few months ago. If you can find a low mileage clean 4th gen (94-97) I would snap it up. They will be a future classic and just lovely to ride. Best of luck!

It had 6500 miles when I bought it, it’s a 97 aswell but green this time. I love the colour. Have you tried joining some of the VFR groups on Facebook? - they can be good places to buy bikes. Best of luck in your search - I’m sure the right bike will show up 👍

Hey, I also have a 97 vfr, Love the sound so I've kept it stock, put and USD yamaha r1 fork on mine though and it shines even hard riding on the twisties.

Interesting that you were riding a CBF500 before the VFR, just bought a '97 VFR750 after riding a CBF600 for a few years

I found it to be a nice progression power wise but I did struggle with the riding position with the VFR. It can be very heavy on the wrists after coming from a somewhat upright position on the CBF.

thinking of buying one, 97 plate too, anything extra to check when buying [additional to the norm ?] great review

A Roberts Sorry mate only seen your comment now.Engines are usually pretty sound,just make sure the valve clearances were checked if the miles are high.Also the circuit board than controls the clock and the dash is prone to moisture corrosion.A little tip is if the clock keeps resetting itself there could be an issue with corrosion of the board.Check the fairings for cracks etc and all fasteners are present.Good luck!

No not on this bike....I don't think the combined braking system was used on 97 or 98 models.

Good to see you keep the bike stock and like bikes stock. God and Honda made it that way and if they got it wrong, it would not still be in the line up. Most people change parts on a bike and turn it into something that is morphed into a cyborg type device. Some of the Harleys out here in California (USA) look like a raped ape would love to ride the darn thing. Some sport bikes end up back popping, have flat spots and just end up running poorly once the "Mini Me" type mechanics get done humping on the back tire (tyre). Keep it stock brother.... Oh, I am 60, have 2 Harleys and have owned a few sport bikes. Lean a little more forward and bend your elbows. No more wrist pain.

I bought a cheap microphone off eBay.Its flexible with a 3.5 jack connection on one end.I tuck it under the front of my helmet and position it just to the side of my mouth.It seems to work ok.The go pro is mounted on my chin.Hope this helps you!

I am not sure about adjustable seat height. At 5ft 8 I think you should be able to get both feet down comfortably.

Thanks. I sat on one last year and I was on tip toes I am thinking the bike I sat on must have had the seat on highest adjustment. I am certain I remember the dealer saying the seat was adjustable. I will find out for sure on next viewing wish me luck

I'm 183cm....there is a bit of a foreword lean,it depends what kind of riding style your used to.I personally find it quite hard on the wrists but I suppose I'm more used to an upright riding style.If your used to riding sports bikes you'll be fine,if your used to riding upright bikes you might find it a bit uncomfortable.Hope this helps

The vfr is marketed as a sports tourer,leaning more towards sports.It definitely is not upright . You could try something like the triumph tiger 800,I haven't driven one personally buy I've seen a few around and they seem to be popular.Good luck with whatever you choose!

@@philipjames250 They are both great bikes. I was using the bike for commuting and it was starting to show it's age. I have a 06 VTEC model now, it's still old but has ABS brakes and I find it much sharper.
