I was just reinstalling a new fuel pump in my 93 Cherokee. I bought a Carquest brand because that's what they had. The pig tail was different and it wouldn't plug in so I had cut the piece off the old pump to splice the wires just like you did. I was wondering should I match the black to black but thought to myself I should match the wires up the way it plugs in. Watched your video and confirmed my gut feeling. Thanks for putting up this video. It helped out.

I always match to the shape. Technically, you could trace contact points and run a continuity test on the pump when it's disconnected for 100% accuracy. I, however, was not fortunate enough to have checked before installing.

@@toethumbmechanics I was looking at the paper work that came with the pump. The instructions were for a GM product with 4 wires. I was all "Really. " On the box it had things to do and not to do for the warranty. Like it said do put a new fuel filter on and it said don't cut wiring harness it voids warranty. Thats why I was worried about wiring it wrong, figured I'd probably fry the pump.

@derrinpickett9948 frustrating. The pump i installed was a precision from Orielys. The plug looks like it fits, but the prongs were too wide. I believe it's one ground, one fuel pump power, and one power for the fuel level indicator.

Does the 1994 have a differnt pump?

Im not 100%. I usually look parts up at Oriellys online and check the compatibility listing for a good reference.
