I love coming back and rewatching this world series to remember how great and simple life was. I'm so blessed to have grown up in the 80's and the 90's. That intro and music just takes me back. Man I miss being a 10 year old kid and I miss those incredible days.

I was 8 when we won the World Series. Watching it with my parents is one of my most favorite memories as a child. I’m so glad it’s here on KZread to rewatch as a 40 year old man lol.

@@kentuckyman21 I hope. The Reds are looking pretty good right now but I wish baseball had a salary cap cause any young stars we have we won't be able to keep long term. Ive always said baseball needs a salary cap. I understand dome small market clubs can have success like Tampa Bay or when the Royals won the WS but they usually always have to trade their young stars and keep on top of that or face losing players via free agency to the Yankees,Dodgers or Redsox. I would love to see my Reds win another WS before I die or at least make it to one,that would be sweet.

Same here. I watched this on TV when I was 9 years old. I remembr how much hype Oakland got leading up to this series, and for good reason. I knew about Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Rickey Henderson, Dave Stewart, Bob Welch, and Dennis Eckersley. Watching my heroes go out and destroy these guys was insane. As a die hard fan. This was and still is one of the greatest seasons I've ever seen from one of the few teams I follow religiously in any sport. It ranks up there with Ohio States football National in 2002. Like the Reds in 1990, the media pundits gave these Buckeyes 0 chance of beating a Miiami Hurricane team on a 34 game winning streak. Also in 2014 the Buckeyes were again written off because they had to play against mighty Alabama. And then Zeke rushed for 230 yards as Osu won the NC. I guess what I'm getting at is that my favorite teams can only win a Championship once a decade as massive underdogs..

Born and raised in Cincinnati and i was 11 yrs old on this night. Ill never forget laying 3 feet from the tv on a bed of pillows on the floor. How time goes by so fast....

Yeah, I believe the next team to do it after the '90 Reds was my other team (for the AL)...the 2005 White Sox! I had heard when I was living in Chicago in '05 that the Sox were the first team to go wire-to-wire since the 90 Reds. Went to both World Series for my two fav teams!

I've been a Reds fan for 50 years, through the great teams of the 70's, but the 1990 team is my all-time favorite sports team. Loved these guys.

I was 8 years old and the biggest Reds fan ever. I went to my first game that year and the Giants beat them 3-2. I was so pissed lol. But they swept the series and made everything right in my 8 year old heart

I was 9. Eric Davis was and still is my all time favorite baseball player. He played with so much swagger you can feel it electrify his team and the crowd . Davis also had the coolest batting stamce ever. He would just nonchalantly stand there while slowly allowing his bat to drift back and forth above his head...he could hit, he could run, and he had a cannon for an arm from the outfield...total badass.. I wouldn't be surprised if Dave Stewart still has nightmares about this game!

My aunt used to babysit pretty sure it was for Mahoney's kids and Danny Keyes would drop his kids off (so babysat them for free! Haha) I was 4 so may have names wrong there. Also remember a family gathering ('64) and running around collecting up the coke bottle caps that had pics of Reds players...p.s.was one of a few to be in the Bay Area cheering on the Reds! Don't get me going on the Bengals here, OMG, but Niner fans respect us, the Best Niner SuperBowls they ever won (esp. w/ Sammy n Bill's History-see the regular season game 49ers stole-we shoulda walked back stalling time for a safety, THEN PUNTED p.s. didnt we have the whole Reds infield born in Cincy? or 7 of 9 starters?!!!! I’m 40 years old, was 10 at the time. I was lucky to get to go to several games at Riverfront over the next few years. But never in 90. But I watched the games on TV. The world just seemed different back then. I’ll always miss this era. I’ll never forget Jack Buck’s call on the foul ball in Oakland when Cincy took down the A’s in 4 games.

A's were huge favorites. I recall the USA Today special edition for that series had a huge Stewart on the mound and a little Reds player at the plate. Little did they know...

I was 12 and everyone was doubting. My uncles, many of my friends at school, the news…..I thought we would we would win the whole time. Oh, the nativity of a 12 year old baseball freak. They made me correct, and made the best sports memory of my childhood.

I'll never forget being in attendance for this game. Truly, a special night. ED's first-inning homer set the tone, and the Reds never looked back.

The genesis of my love for baseball. I lived in Tucson, AZ in 1990 and we didn't have a professional team in AZ. I was watching a game during the regular season with my Dad and Eric Davis crushed a homerun. He became my favorite player that day and I adopted the Reds as my team. I live in California and everyone always, your a Reds fan???🤔

That's always been the narrative, but honestly the Reds were the better team heading into the Series. Jose Rijo was lights out, and Billy Hatcher played out of his mind. The A's, while getting swept, didn't exactly roll over after that. Game Two went to extra innings and Game Four was a one run game. The Reds just had the better pitching staff overall and McGwire, Canseco, and Dave Henderson were completely overmatched. The Reds had a combined ERA of 1.70 in the Series compared to 4.33 for the A's. The Reds' pitching was the difference

Andrew Hiedelburg I feel same about my Seahawks when they won the ship. We thought we’d go back for at least another few years. Football seems to strip SB teams down due to cost where baseball just the opposite but different teams get in.

From the theme music to the pregame everything was perfect back then! Not too over the top and Cbs did such a better job with coverage than fox does today! Simpler times!!

Love when Eric Davis hits the homerun, no babbling on and on from the play by play announcer, and no stupid sound effect and homerun lit up on the screen by the channel

This is RBI Baseball 3 come to life.

I hated that Reds team so much, especially after they knocked out my Pirates that year. They seemed like bullies, but I have a ton of respect for them, humbling the Bash Bros and a legendary A's club. Those Reds were one of the best and most entertaining teams I've ever seen.

Probably because Davis looked mean kind of. Then Dibble, Myers, and company were called the Nasty Boys. Then like Jim, Lou was known for his temper.

Yeah, the Reds were awesome, they kind of broke up after '76, lost Gullet and Perez right about the time Steinbrenner started spending ridiculous amounts of $$$ and it started getting really hard for small market teams like Cincinnati to compete. They were still good, but the Dodgers got really good in '77 and the Red Machine went into slight decline, didn't have the pitching to compete.

Classic MLB on CBS, the way it should still be!!!

My brother was a die hard reds fan ..we live in VA ..He loved BIG RED MACHINE..Bench Morgan Rose Conception, Foster , Griffey , Geronimo, Perez, in the 70s , he loved this 1990 Reds team said they would win it in 5...great team...but not the 70s team..

I get so upset when I think of Davis, his injuries and what could have been

The difference in this series as opposed to the series of the 70's was Myers and Dibble who simply shut down the A's. Had Myers and Dibble been playing for Sparky under the Big Red Machine era, they probably would have won a couple more than just '75 and '76.

@Jim McCracken True, he did that. IMO, he did it because he didn't trust his pitchers as well as Bench and there was a lot of justification for it as well. The relievers were notoriously unreliable in close games. The starting pitching was OK, but not great either.

Oakland was the main team in MLB at the time.

Playing in Riverfront Stadium. Riverfront Stadium is the only place I ever got to go see an MLB game. I was a kid and every time I went with my father. I was at the Reds game when the Reds set a record for number of runs in the first inning, something around 15 if I remember correctly. I also snuck down to the field and a friend and I found 2 seats in the front row behind the Reds dugout. I sat next to an old woman and at the end they rolled stairs over to her seats so she could get on the field. I told my dad what happened and that "old woman" was Marge Schott.

The last game I saw at River front stadium was when Charlton mowed soscia of the dodgers over at the plate. I left for boot camp afterwards n my reds won it all. Thanks to the internet I get to see it!! Nasty boys were awesome!!!

The two teams last met in the World Series was in 1972, when the Athletics defeated the Reds to end their 42 year championship drought. 1990 became the second meeting between the two teams, as the Reds will seek revenge for what the Athletics did to them in the World Series prior.

Now 33 years later the 2 franchises are so irrelevant it’s sad. Granted the Reds had a nice explosion of youth talent in 2023 and just barely missed the Playoffs but will they continue to trend upwards in 2024? I hope so but sadly doubt it and the MLB owners yesterday unanimously approved for the As to move to Las Vegas

I was a huge A’s fan living in northern Cali through the 80’s/90’s. Funny I don’t remember this WS at all. Completely blocked from my memory. I now see why. Cincy was super dominant in ‘90 and deserved every bit of the ship. I thought this serious would b way more competitive than it was. It was Cincy’s year. Coronavirus has me going back and watching all these old sports moments with no live sports and stuck home. Big big thank you to everyone for uploading these sports moments in history. Means the world. I hope more ppl find and upload sports moments like this.

I'm from Cincy, but was living in the Oaktown area for two years before this. Saw a lot of games. They looked like a great team then. I thought Oakland would be great for years to come. Came home to Cincy in early '90. Went to two games, and was on the square with about 200,000 other people cheering with brooms after it was over...LOL

As a child and super A’s fan at the time, my memories of this World Series is watching at my best friend’s house and both of us crying about losing....lol. I still don’t like Chris Sabo for whatever reason haha....Still sucks because I wish that A’s squad could’ve gotten one more championship, but yea it was obviously the Reds’ year....cheers.

So many great players on both teams.. this is before my time, but I am stars-struck watching this.

The Reds are one of the few teams whose uniforms of the 90's look better than they do today.

I was a freshman at Morehead state university during this series. I wanted the A’s and I can remember the entire campus with periodic super loud cheers throughout the series.

Oh that intro music is sweet nostalgia to my ears.

Love seeing Jim Katt, great lefty who worked fast on the mound.

I remember those days. Back when it seemed at least half the players had a dip in.

As good as that Oakland team was, they struggled nightly against good pitching. It was the same in the 88 series against the Dodgers. Whereas the Reds came up with key hits against very good Oakland pitchers, the Athletics hitters never had much success when facing formidable pitching.

35:00 is the at-bat of my fandom! And what made it even sweeter was all the whining Stewart said about the As being the better team in being swept! Eric Davis is one of the most TALENTED ballplayers EVER (said by MANY like Rose, Ripken, Parker, O'Neill). He TRULY gave his ALL in center, not everyone does that. It definitely saved many runs, but his injuries cost him a few years. He still had 7 20/20 seasons including 27/80 & 37/50!

Not sure how many times I've watched this series, my favorite. Perfect example of how a few good/great players can't beat a good team. Obviously Davis' first pitch sock rattled Stewart for the rest of the game, but my second favorite moment was Sabo's 5th inn 2 run single w/ 2 out making it 7-0 said we will beat you in this series just accept it.

Jack Buck was so biased I am so happy the Reds made him humble.

I got to talk to Dave Stewart on radio in 1992. He was saying how Oakland had off series at the wrong time. my question to him was, were you surprised that Davis swung at the first pitch. He said I was. Then i said "Boy that ball went a long way....didn't it?" that 90 team was a great TEAM. and the pitching was the best in all of baseball that year. It didn't surprise me they swept the series. Not at all....

@@ronsterm7076 It's telling that the Eric Davis episode wasn't even the very worst thing that Marge Schott did during her ownership of the Reds. If anything, that was just a harbinger of thins to come in the next few years. I heard that Marge was actually pissed that her team won the World Series in a four game sweep. I if I have my facts straight, was upset that she was being deprived of additional revenue since Games 6-7 would've been played in Cincinnati.

I'm pretty sure Oakland regretted trading Rijo to the Reds.

I had forgotten how huge of an upset this was. I remembered the Reds being just as strong as the A's that year. (Turns out, they had an insane start, then were kind of average in the 2nd half, for a respectable but not insane 91-71 record. Now it makes sense. )

The Reds last 2 world series victories, 1976 and this one 1990 , the Reds SWEPT them both. IN the 1976 worlds series the Reds swept the pennant and the world series. First time it was ever done. Of course they also won the world series in 1975 in 7 games against the RED Sox. 76 against the Yankees. 1919 against the White Sox better known as the black sox scandal. and in 1940 they also won the world series. 4 world series titles they have . about 1919, say what you want about the the White Sox throwing the series, hey if the other team is going to give you the game.. at least they took it. The Reds came to win.

the year before I was born. hearing so many legendary names! conseco, henderson, larkin, davis, mcgwire. reds have yet to win a series in my lifetime. sorry to see puig go but hopefully bauer is worth it.

I lived in the Oakland area the two years before this, then came home (Cincinnati) in time to see this series. Incredible. There had to be 250,000 people on the square with brooms when this ended. :) You'll get your memories too kid, and your stories to tell. I have one that would really get you...LOL

It seems like yesterday. What a great season. They endured that ten game losing streak, and still went wire to wire. Who would have thought that Paul O'Neill would go on to be one of the most beloved Yankee in history. PAUL OOOONEILLLLL!

The MLB on CBS theme song is for me right up there with the NBA on NBC theme song (aka ‘Roundball Rock’ by John Tesh). Gives me a little bit of goosebumps every time I hear it. Great piece of early 90s nostalgia from my youth. I think televised sports has really lost a certain unique quality by using pop and hip hop stars to be the focus of their intros, theme songs and overall presentation which became too corporate and contrived

Yes. I come back to this video just to hear that intro and to go back to 1990. I was 10 and it was so great. Things just used to be more special I suppose. The announcers the music and themes. I remember MNF used to be great and watching John madden and Summeral call games. I miss the 90's baseball. Ken Griffey Jr,Frank Thomas,Cal Ripken,Nolan Ryan....etc. 1990-1995 was an amazing time, the 80's and 90's were the best of times and I'm so glad I experienced those days as a kid growing up.
