They're good stock. 1.1 0-60 12secs, 1.4 normal 0-60 7-8 secs. They weigh nothing and they're so low to the ground..they're amazing to drive.

The car blotted it's copybook when EURONCAP tested it for crash safety, which resulted in a dreadful 1 star crash safety rating, and several national newspapers reported on this calling it a "deathtrap". All this negative publicity about the car's poor crash safety result, shocked Rover so much, that they wound up production and stopped it late 1997.

Sorry but it's quality, performance and reliability is just crap. Rather get a Fiesta.

By this point quality had gone up. The 1.4 outperformed the Fiesta of the time and they handle wonderfully dye to their connection with the Mini. No way I'd take a Fiesta of this era over a Metro. A couple years down the line though? Well there still was a Metro and I'd rather drive a Lada than a BMW Minin

@@SpitfireFortyFour judging by how my Dad still goes on about his old GTa despite it being over 20 years since he scrapped it I think you could be correct Mk3 Fiesta wasnt the best Fiesta.

@@darylyatestransportblogs Yep, the Mk3 Fiesta was pretty damn horrid, we had one it was ok as a basic car but by christ Ford really weren't trying at all in them days. The Metro here was a vast improvement on the original but due to the bean counters and policies it was nowhere near as revolutionary as it could've been esp g8ven the AR6 concept that the designers could never build cuz BAE wouldn't fund it, surprise surprise 😃. The styling and dashboard were still very plain and abit cheap looking. Knowing what Rover were capable of during the P5 days it could have been such a class leader if they'd got a one up 9n everybody else and introduced stuff like ABS, airbags, PAS etc. Plus as Chris says wh'y it take em 10 years to put all them improvements in?? Austin/Rover management were either just greedy, lazy, arrogant and content that they could shove a Rover badge on the same basic design, tweak a light here, a bit a trim there etc and customers would keep buyin it Ill give ye here in 1990 it was a good step in the right direction but by 1994 the 100 was falling behind the likes of VW Polo, Nissan Micra etc on things like equipment and fit n finish, reliability mighta been abit 8ffy with the K Series aswell but folk were obv starting to see better options elsewhere for the same dosh.

Horrid, guttless cars. Took mine out to take to the scrapyard and whamo! no brakes. As to whether the Metro saved Rover - you can't be serious?

It kept it afloat in the 80s and early 90s. After it stopped selling well in the mid-90s, Rover started to get into trouble.
