I miss when Ford made sporty coupes that were somewhat affordable and not a Mustang. I remember going to the Ford dealer as a kid when my dad was buying a 1993 Taurus SHO and they had a Probe GT in the showroom and I was absolutely enamored with it.

Same here, the Escort GT back in the day was pretty cool. Love SHO's! I remember my dad telling me stories about Taurus SHO's when they first came out and how they'd blow the doors off his Probe GT from a stoplight haha. The 2nd gen Probe GT (1993-1997) looked so ahead of its time, even today I think a 1993 GT could pass as a 2001.

@@ZacharyBeland Oh yeah I liked those 90's Escort GT's too. Another excellent Mazda 4 cylinder that loved to rev. 10 years after my dad bought his 93 SHO I was in high school and he let me use it as my own as he had bought a new car. It was pretty worn out from Michigan roads and weather but it still hauled and surprised a lot of people.
I want one of these so bad. It has been on my dream car list for decades now.
Fairly randomly tonight, I decided to search for "Ford Probe turbo". Look at this! What a survivor. I'm impressed by its condition. I bought a black '89 Probe GT new in late '89 toward the end of its longish first model year - the only year of the first-gen with its particular exterior styling (like the one in the MotorWeek review) before the quick refresh. Over my ownership, I upgraded to a set of BBS RZ wheels, Dunlop D40 shoes, Suspension Techniques sway bars, HKS exhaust, and various audio system and interior upgrades. It was a very fun machine, if suffering a bit from Flat Rock build quality. I later traded it for a Sentra SE-R.

Haha that's great, thank you! My dad's was also a black '89 GT he bought new early in '89 and still had it until 2010 with 338k on it. Definitely fun little cars but I agree with the Flat Rock build quality, very apparent in the interior. I've always liked the Sentra SE-R.
Looks great with the ‘96+ Aluminum Chrome premium wheels!

I couldn't agree more, thanks!
I had an '89 Probe when I was a senior in high school (1999). The only issues I ever had were a leaking master cylinder and a few hoses splitting from age. Something odd I remember was that it had a "Turbo" switch, but mine wasn't the turbo model.
I owned 1 of these. Can't remember the year. 5 speed. Loved it

They're pretty great! It's still my dad's all time favorite car he's owned and I love mine.
I owned a 91 Probe GT 5 speed in Midnight Blue and I loved that car

Midnight blue? Sounds like a beautiful color, didn't know that was an option on 1st generations.
Clean PGT !! currently resurrecting 2 of them 90,91 both red
I had the LX version in Seafoam Green. Two cool features I liked was the headlights and wipers had a winter mode. Wipers would pop up a few inches on the windshield to utilize the defroster and the headlights could be kept up in the winter so ice would not freeze them closed. Plus that car was quiet…engine sounded like a sewing machine.
Had one just like it in late 90s. Gorgeous. Seeing this makes me miss it. Bought a '67 Mustang S-code and couldn't afford to keep them both. Have fun with yours - looks nearly impossible to find anymore. (Love to have one as a daily driver.)

Nice a '67 S-code...I can't blame you for switching haha. And thank you, I really enjoy it for what it is. Quick enough and fun to daily drive in the spring/summer. Definitely getting harder and harder to find one in good shape. Thanks for watching!
That is a nice car. I remember when ford was proposing the Mustang replacement

Nice video of a beautiful specimen. It was well praised at RADWood in Detroit this year!

Appreciate it! A few years ago I had a Rio Red 1993 second gen GT. I miss it sometimes, I'd like to get another second gen GT in the future.
I’m still keeping mine 1990 Probe GT 5 Speed manual in Taiwan that I brought back from states . Still running perfectly fine, hopefully I will be able to restore it back to brand new condition in the future.

That's great! I really hope to keep mine as long as I live. Good luck with yours, they're special cars!
No way in hell a clutch and turbo lasted 338,000 miles. I owned a brand new white 1989 Probe GT bought for $16,500 off the showroom floor. I did not drive it too hard and the clutch and turbo both had to be replaced at around 60k.
11:05 My 1990 GT taillights have the exact same moisture problem.

Yeah they pretty much all do haha.
Had my Probe going 240kph with 12psi good times.
That's not a hatchback. It's actually a liftback.
