These were the days, back when ESPN was actually about, y'know, sports. (And MTV played music videos. I know, hard to believe if you're under 30.)

Damn.I was 13 when this race ran.Wish I was into NASCAR back then.I didnt get into it until late 89.Dega looks a ton different now.I've been going every October since 2005.Awesome ...AWESOME track to see a race at....I kinda wish they would have left some of the old commercials from the broadcast.

The race you go to used to be run in July all the way through 1996 just after the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona, but due to the hot summer temperatures and Alabama thunderstorms and rain, those made the fans complain and NASCAR moved the event to October. Jeff Gordon won the 1996 event, last one in July, after the race was cut short to 129 of 188 due to rain and darkness. That race had Earnhardt's hard crash, which broke his collarbone.

Bobby is a true gentleman. Concerned about others. I am the same age as Bobby in this video. He looks so much older than 50. That, or I am in denial.

At that time, there were only two multi-car teams in NASCAR, as far as running the full schedule: Hendrick Motorsports (Darrell Waltrip, Geoff Bodine and Benny Parsons...who drove #35, subbing for Tim Richmond, who was out the first half of '87), and Stavola Brothers (Bobby Allison and Bobby Hillin Jr).

Supposedly this is why there are restrictor plates... but I don't see any way this couldn't happen today... there would just be about 20 more cars involved because of the tight pack racing.

After plates were introduced, they went from 205-210 to 185, but now with plates/spacers whatever they’re using now they’re back at 205.

Harold Kinder the flagman must have enormous balls made of steel to not even flinch and throw that yellow flag on point like that, Damn!!

give it just a few more laps and Kyle Petty probably had one hell of a chance to win it, he had a great charge to the front passing about 3 cars in the last 2 laps, does'nt sound like much but it is considering how spread out everyone was, great race, maybe one day they will take the plates off and not allow anyone to sit in the granstand.

@@brianbooher7318 I love old school F1, back when even your grandma knew who was leading and they were on the cover of the gossip magazines. But it's like Tour de France, after about 2001, when the stars with personality and the looks to go with them, Pantani, Ullrich, Riis, Indurain, Cippolinni, they all got busted or quit and now it's just a bunch of robots that nobody even knows the names of. NASCAR too, hell even golf, I don't know anyone in golf now.
