Still remember that day. We were all soaked. It rained and rained, it looked like they weren’t going to run this race, but did, I don’t know how they stayed on, it was an awful day, with the weather, but, the fans stayed on to watch this race, it was unbelievable wet!

Bump starts and Le Mans style starts for endurance racing is a stupid idea. Mamola went backwards right from go when he should have been up front. At least Gardner proves that in these sorts of conditions you need to be in front from the start, no spray and no nonsense happening in front so just twist and go.
