In Wayne Raineys biography, he stated that his practise crash left him with concussion and no depth perception, so the only way for him was to lead, as he couldn't judge what anyone in front of him was doing. Credit to him though, as while he wasn't thrilled when Cadalora passed him, he said he didn't blame him😉

The average age of a motorcycle rider in the USA is 50, and rising. It's a huge problem. The safety-mom ninnies won't let their precious babies ride in the dirt, let alone race. I'm doubtful that electric bikes will make any difference as they'll be too expensive, and let's be honest - even starter dirt bikes are $4-5k now! AMA is nothing but a shell of its former self.

That was an intense championship battle: Kevin crashed in practice (after having set a pole lap that was a second faster than anyone else) and fractured his wrist which harmed him for the rest of the season because his hand got numb after some time (he later on admitted the injury didn't come from the race incident). At the same time, Wayne had highsided in practice and banged his head so bad that he had no depth perception and couldn't pass anyone on the race track. None of them said a word 'cause they didn't want to give the other rider a psychological advantage (not even Wayne's team was aware of the situation). Both were far from being ready to race, but both went for it. Simply because they couldn't live with giving it away to the other one. Amazing competitors! :)

Geez, I could buy a pretty nice dinner if I could have a dollar for every time they said "rostrum." I can't say I've ever heard the word before today, I've only heard "podium", or maybe I just never paid attention. All that aside, it's cool to hear all the familiar racer's names from when I first got interested in motorcycling, which would be '90 (had posters of all the super bikes, multiple moto mag subscriptions with all the stats memorized, and I'd flip out like a Beatles or Elvis fan when any of the big 4 were spotted on the road), got my first motorcycle in '93. I still ride year-round (no car by choice) with only two minor hospitalizations. Like the old saying goes: "There are bold riders and there are old riders, but there aren't old bold riders." Be safe out there kids. You wanna ride like these guys (or feel like it), buy a track day and leave the racing there, not out on the street.

Did Schwantz get injured badly? Boy it looked bad, it looked like the bike came down right on top of him and he wasn't moving initially. Well, actually, all three looked they got tossed pretty hard, yikes...

Yes. Broken wrist amongst other things. Spoiled an otherwise flawless year. If it wasn't for Rainey's even more horrible crash, it would have cost him the championship. Doohan's massive fuck up is a bit like a butterfly effect before a cursed year of MOTO GP. Hard to believe a rider like Doohan could do something so dumb...

What drugs was Steve Parish sucking on that day?? Foggy apparently went from adjusting his forks preload at one point (pretty sure you wouldnt do this while racing) to adjusting his rear shock, again is that even possible while riding?? Ive never heard of a rear shock adjuster on the handle bars! I would say he was more than likely adjusting hus front brake.😂😂😂

Such a shame that Carl Fogarty had that issue. To be able to ride that bag of shite and have a podium (if not for the fuel mishap) with practically zero experience is very impressive indeed. Niall gets a lot of praise but I think Carl was a little more talented and could have won in GPs. Is there another rider since Fogarty that’s been a world champion that’s won the TT or road circuits?

I remember this just like it was yesterday and it wasn’t as the maggot talking head was saying, in fact it was a mechanical failure placed squarely on the Mechanics as Doohan had no brakes which he discovered while braking. These races were so much better when Daryl Eastlake & Barry were calling them!
