    Very cool truck! I have a 86 almost the exact same but it has the non quad head lights but other then that it pretty much the same. I have a turbo from a 6.5 ill be putting on it soon!

    Nice! Some days I wish I didnt have the quad lights. But they work ok :P Run everything from a 6.5 setup but the turbo. They suck... Find something like a Holset HX35 or HX40. They make a lot better turbo for these trucks!

    Sounds good! I’m getting ready to purchase an 84 1/2 ton 4 x 4 with a four-speed manual. It has a brand new reman engine With about 8000 miles on it no turbo but the thing is the owner tells me it will only run 55 mph or so. Did they gear them that low from the factory? What is your truck geared? It seems about right.

    6.2 without OD and 4.10s will do 70 no problem but it's happiest at 65 I found, this is presuming a stock tire size. I had a th400 at the time, so you'll do better with the 4 speed. I'm 4.10 with OD and 33" tires. It's pretty happy the way I have it setup

    Roadhog0 I’m hoping maybe it’s a fuel problem and it’s not just pulling up to speed or something I don’t think he’s change the gear ratio and I wouldn’t think it would’ve came from the factory that way only doing 55 or 60

    I'm thinking on getting a M1008 CUCV which is essentially a beefed up K30 with a dana 60 front axle, 14 bolt rear with a detroit locker but a Th400 and Np208 and 4.56. My plan is to do a 6.2/6.5 hybrid (6.5 heads and exhaust with a hx30 turbo if possible) but keep the 12/24 volt hybrid system. Swap in a NV3500 manual in place of the turbo 400 (don't need a 4500 for my case) 245/85/16 tires all way around and 4.10 gears, drop the single 20 gallon for dual 25 gallon fuel tanks as well as a spin on fuel/water separator filter. Hoping to keep it in such a way where I can at least get 15mpg in city and 20-22 highway. My current truck is getting 14mpg highway with a tail wind. What kind of mpg you seeing with your truck?

    +Ratkill9000 M1008 will probably be an open diff in the back, M1028 got all the cool stuff like lockers and posi's. 6.2 heads will be just fine, no need to change them, just swap manifolds. HX30 is way too small! HX35 or equivalent minimum, depending on your application. Personally I'd dump the 12/24, one too many things to go wrong, plus it's harder to find parts for it that way, with 12v everything is readily available. NV3500 will be just find as long as you don't pull heavy, I have one in my S10 and it's great. I'd think about 3.73's for your truck if you're headed for MPG, also 245/75/16 or 235/85/16 since either would be stock. Also as far as tanks, keep the 20 and put another on the other side. That I know of the trucks didn't come with 25's. It was 16 or 20. Surprised your truck doesn't have duals on it already. Spin on's are also a good addition, I am in the works of doing that to my truck currently. This truck gets 16-17 mpg on the highway because it now has tall tires, plus it is over fueled and I haven't backed it down yet. When the truck was stock (NA, TH400, 4.10's, 265/75/16) it would get 19mpg on the highway doing 65 and 15 mpg in town. Check out dieselplace, lots of us with 6.2's over there.

    Roadhog0 Yeah I'm looking at diesel place and steelsoldiers. I don't tow much at all if anything its maybe 1,000-1,200lbs worth. I can probably do the 25 to the other side. I've heard also to switch to an electric lift pump to replace the mechanical one when that goes out. The NV3500 would only be because the GM NV4500 is a lot harder to get a hold of now or if you can find them they are asking a lot more cash then what I'd be willing to spend. Right now I'm looking for the right truck I don't have one yet. But the spin on filter, turbo, second fuel tank and manual transmission are the main mods I'd be doing to it. But I am keeping that second 100amp alternator and change everything else to 12 volt. Oh and manual glow plug switch. Long as the truck gets better than the 12-16mpg my 1999 F150 gets I'll be happy lol.

  • @Roadhog0

    @Roadhog0

    Yah, electric lift pump change over is a great thing! Im glad I did it! The 3500 will be fine. I have a 4500 in this because I wanted the extra strength. Dont be afraid to buy a civi truck, most of them are just as good as one of the military trucks, if not better. Also, they're more plentiful.

  • @Ratkill9000

    @Ratkill9000

    Roadhog0 I live in the rust belt so trying to find one that isn't rusted would be a challenge unless I look out of state. Plus trying to find one without a ton of miles is a must. But I will say the civilian truck suspension will not relocate organs unlike the 1.25 ton military trucks will. Where did you pull the 4500 out of? I do remember since the 6.2 is a drop in for any chevy engine it also shares the small block chevy pattern at least from what I have read. So finding a 3500 from a 4.3 or 4.8 should match to the 6.2 without much trouble.

  • @Roadhog0

    @Roadhog0

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Ratkill9000 Ouch, the rust belt. Good luck, even the military ones are rusty.... Mind you, even though a military truck is low on miles, it doesn't always mean the engine hasn't been idled to death. Seen a couple that that has happened to. Yah, civi trucks are a much smoother ride! The 4500 came out of a 94 chev, not sure what motor it was behind, but it bolts up in place of the Th400. Just cut a hole in the floor and get a clutch hose and you're set! 3500 will be behind a 4.3, 305, and 350. All of them should work fine.

    Isn't 16-18psi of boost *way* too high for reliable operation in a 6.2... maybe you can get by with that on a late block or an optimizer block dunno. 10psi is about the limit and IIRC 6.2 trucks with stock turbos have a 12psi overboost warning. The banks turbo kit is actually intentionally too small to get over that much boost... at all.

  • @Roadhog0

    @Roadhog0

    4 жыл бұрын

    Nope! I've run that much boost for years on this truck with no ill effects. The problem I've had is I kept getting literal trash for pistons... Headgaskets and all that were good. I am also running headstuds. No way I would run over 10PSI on an engine without studs.
