Bizarre national league 8th inning with knuckleball craziness.

This was the first year (1986) rookies were on the All-Star Game voting ballots. Interesting.

Shari Belafonte butchered the ending of the canadian anthem. She repeats "We stand on guar for thee" twice when it's "Oh Canada We stand on guard for thee". You can even see Blue Jays players laugh right after she gets it wrong.

Wow, four Mets in the starting lineup! I miss those days. I also think Gooden was doing blow, falling off the mound.

Lots of “closed” stances the hitters used back in this era.

Sadly, Dick Howser was diagnosed with cancer 2 days after this game, and died in June of 1987. Royals retired his number.

Yeah that little moment where they changed pitchers at the end and Hernandez thought he was coming in, but it was Aase who was intended-apparently what had happened was that Howser had initially given the wrong signal, touched the wrong arm, signaling the left-hander instead of the right-hander. At the time it seemed like a humorous moment, but it turned out to be a symptom of his tumor, confusion and memory lapses. Of course the announcers had no idea at the time when they were chuckling about it, he had kept his symptoms largely to himself for several weeks.

And you're not counting Fernando Valenzuela ... who was unfairly not inducted into the Hall of Fame. In this game he gave proof of his quality ... striking out 5 consecutively. He became the first, and to date, the only player to win both Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season.
