Watching the NFL in its heyday was so much better. Harry Kalas an excellent narrator and it was a lot tougher in the 80's. Brilliant to see the cowboys get thrashed 44-0.

This was the week for the Patriots with a huge win on the road in Seattle that as a pats fan you kinda felt like this team might be on their way to a special season. Which they did in 1985. Well at least till they ran into the Bears in New Orleans in SB 20.

That last highlight, the Jets Bucs game was wild. Tampa Bay took a early 14-0 lead. Jets scored 41 unanswered points to close the half and wound up winning 62-28. Crazy game

The Jets we're looking for revenge against Tampa from an incident from their matchup in the '84 finale. TB allowed a gimmie TD to the Jets in an attempt to get some record for James Wilder...

I remember that yes. It was Bucs Coach John McKay who kept kicking on sides kicks with the game already decided in the 4th Q to try and get Wilder a rushing record. More than a few Jets were pissed. Thing was McKay was out as Bucs Coach after 84 so the revenge was a little less sweet for the Jets but they sure did kick their ass that game here in 85.

Realistic portrayal of Bears, winning with defense and rushing. Stump Mitchell the lone 1985 bright spot for Cardinals, over 1000 yards in only 8 starts!

Same here, such a shame. I had basically every highlight package from these from 84-90. Only a few from 1989 remained on a old VHS tape. TAGRYN PLEASE if you have more from the 80s can you post them here?

Typical Lions. 13:24. Had a 6 and 5 record after 11 games, But finished 7 and 9 in 1985. Some things never change.

The Lions defeated all these 1985 playoff teams at the Pontiac Silverdome: Dallas, San Francisco, Miami and the Jets. Reminds me of the 1971 Bears. It was their first season at Soldier Field. They beat the playoff bound Vikings in Minnesota in week 2. They beat the eventual Super Bowl champion Cowboys at home and the Redskins. It was a 14 game schedule back then. The Bears were 6-3 after 9 games. But lost their last 5 games of the season, missed the playoffs and head coach Jim Dooley got fired.

OH what a HORRIBE weekend of football. I got home from church, I was an altar boy and Cowboys fan in Philadelphia. I knew I would not see the Cowboys game since the eagles were playing at the same time. So the only thing to do was watch the eagles game and hope to see as many Cowboys highlights as posible all the while I played my Strat O Matic football game and hockey game. I was 12 years old and NEVER, EVER did expericne a loss like that. As the LOWlights were aired Isat there in dibelief What mae matters worse was that the back up QB was in for the Bears and I knew and everyone else knew the Cowboys were nowhere near bad. It was the first blowout like this since MNF 1970 vs the Cards.

What interesting is, looking at the historic info, the Vegas line was even: Chicago was 10-0, but Dallas was 7-3 and was at home, where they were 4-0 on the season. It's a tribute to Landry and the team's veterans that there weren't any lingering effects from the game: they handily disposed of the Eagles 34-17 and the Cardinals 35-17 the next two weeks.

Yeah, that happened with NFL Films. Footage that was visually interesting was sometimes chosen over more important play action, and three short-yardage bull runs for TDs probably wasn't as much fun to show than long pass plays. Also, I think sometimes they didn't get a good camera angle on an play, making it difficult to feature - there was one beautiful 1-handed-full-extension-while-falling catch that WR Mike Quick made against the Falcons in '86, one of the best catches I've ever seen, but there was an elevated TV camera that got in the way so the overhead shot was ruined. They still used it in the Philly yearbook film, but it would have been a highlight for the ages if they'd had a sideline camera guy in the right spot to get the shot from the endzone.

The NFL at it's zenith. Great talent, great uniforms, and some classic games. In fact, until the hitting rules were changed, until too much circus-like glitz, and until the league became dominated by Left-wing nonsense around six years ago, the fan was guaranteed some incredible games every week. We always have these super old highlights, though.

In fairness, the '85 Bears did that to a lot of teams that year on the way to the Super Bowl (including the Patriots in that game). However, losing so badly to the Bears, then getting run over by Eric Dickerson in the playoffs for 248 yards, foreshadowed the next few years which would be the twilight of Landry's tenure in Dallas.

The Bears D literally beat the stuffing out of Dallas. Danny White was pummeled twice, and Gary H also taken out as well. I am a Bears fan and have seen somw great D games, but this msy have been the most dominating defensive performance I have ever seen.
