Bruton Smith made Bristol the coliseum it is today he sunk millions into that joint so back in the day Bristol looked like your typical short track. Love these old races with the good ol' boys.

Let’s go back in time and tell these guys they can’t drive without splitters, side skirts, monster spoilers, and an electron microscope inspection process.

Dale Earnhardt won this race with No Power Steering. His power steering went out around lap 100 so he had to muscle that almost the whole race and his arm kept falling asleep from all the pressure which make this his most hard earned victory and his first Bristol victory driving for Richard Childress wrangler 3 and might be his second win there after winning his rookie year 1st career win in 1979

I can sit and watch these old races all day. I can't even stand the current NASCAR. No stupid "Chase" back in the day. All the races were an event.

I was at this race, I was a bigtime earnhardt fan, and I always listen on scanner to what dale and crew said. When dale lost power steering Childress hollered and told dale, bud Moore (owner #15 car) just told rudd on the radio we dont have to worry about the #3 today he ain't got no power steering. Dale never said nothing. With about 30 or 40 laps to go dale was beating the bumper and fenders off rudds car to pass him and he hollered on the radio to Childress and said "you wrecking they starting worrying about us yet Richard " lol.

Unfortunately I was Born and raised in Bristol didn't really get into NASCAR till 1990 . I hate all the stuff by mail. Wish I would've been bred into NASCAR. Anyway the motor speedway. It's amazing. Only got to go once. 1993 August grace. Amazing sorry for the horrible spelling spellcheck sucks

Is it me or does the all asphalt Bristol look wider? Those steel guard rails look deadly also. This was when Bristol racing was good. The modern Bristol has been castrated.

Honestly I couldn't tell you that the cars were any louder or quieter but I do know I grew up about 12 miles from the racetrack and you could hear them like they was in your backyard when I was growing up in the early 80s and by the time I moved from the home place in 2008 you couldn't even tell race was in town because I reckon the grandstands and then people muffle the noise and the cat out that Highway 394 and I don't know if it routed the sound that way or if it was just the fact that the people was absorbing all the sound. But you couldn't even hear them. I want to say the cars were not allowed or just being at the racetrack with them stands built all the way around it it was probably a lot louder now

IIRC this race was postponed the previous weekend and at the time NASCAR had ran the next weekend if there was no race scheduled. Due to the fact this was Easter weekend they ended up running on Saturday afternoon April 6

That's why NASCAR should have 30ish races in a season, having 36 leaves almost no room for postponements. The 2001 season was an anomaly though.

Dale Earnhrdt Sr won this race driving the last 400 laps with no power steering. I wonder how many people knew that? They don't make drivers like that anymore! Most of them are a bunch of spoiled, rich and disrespectful little punks that show no appreciation! People can vote on who the greatest nascar driver in history is all they want but just like in life itself it's not always about what you did,it's about how you did it! You can vote by looking at stats on a piece of paper for 3 days or work your ass off and do your homework. Dale Earnhardt Sr is by far the very BEST.He was the toughest, most aggressive, never gave up and had the greatest car control I've ever seen.He did more with less than any other driver. Not to mention he used to kick everybodys ass in IROC!

Caden Parker I knew that, most impressive win of dale’s career and you don’t hear much about it, he basically fell out of the car in victory lane, from being so exhausted, THE REAL IRON MAN!!
