$110,000 GREATER HARTFORD OPEN
Bradley Bowl, Windsor Locks, Conn., Apr 5-9, 1983
Milton Strikes Again
Pressure-packed strikes by both players in the 10th frame of the championship game of the $110,000 Greater Hartford Open resulted in a 235-227 victory for Tom Milton over Earl Anthony, giving Milton his second PBA win of the year.
The crowd at Bradley Bowl buzzed in anticipation of a possible Anthony-Milton match, and it came off after non-champion Steve Wunderlich threatened to make an ail-out run at the title. Wunderlich, 25, first stopped veteran Mike Durbin, 214-187, and then toppled Pete McCordic, runnerup here last year, 225-203. Wunderlich then ran into Milton, and bowed, 245-190, setting the stage for the title game.

You talk about clutch bowling in that final game from both bowlers. Earl was amazing in that he took no time on the approach. He knew what he wanted to do before stepping up on the lane. Milton had a very unusual style. Thanks for the video.

That 1983-84 graphic open is my favorite. Also, gotta love that Brass in the theme music, especially that part at about :44. I love to bowl.

Very true; however, IIRC, Wunderlich has retroactively been awarded a PBA title for winning the ABC Masters in (I think it was) 1985, since he was a PBA national touring player at the time.

The saddest part in speaking of the prize money won. Is how little of it was actually available to the top players. The PBA should be ashamed of itself in the inability to get the money levels where they should be. The Talent that's been out there for many years has not been dealt a fair deal. The fact that it took many years for Earl Anthony to attain a million dollars in career earnings speaks for itself. I respect the bowlers, they are passionate for the game & do it anyway. Purely for the love of it. I know the stories of guys trying to make it early in their career.

Comments on Mike Durbin having been on the tour 16 years & only just now surpassed 500,000. ? PBA should be embarrassed. Today the money isn't any better. Not to mention inflation & along with the decline in the value of the dollar. Sad.
