The Miami Dolphins defeat the New England Patriots in round one of the playoff tournament in the Orange Bowl during the 1982 season. Andra franklin was solid st running but fumbled in bad situations. When miami played San Diego in the playoffs of the 81 season miami had the lead late in the 4th and they were moving the ball and andra fumbled allowing San Diego to eventually tie and win game. But I still enjoyed his tough running.

    It's sad that a die hard Dolphin fan has to go back almost 40 years and watch highlights and rebroadcasts of 80's Fins games to re live their former glory.The last time they were in a Super Bowl against the 49ers I was 15.Im 50 now and still waiting for the Fins to become a Super Bowl calibre team again.I want to see a Dolphin player raise a Vince Lombardi trophy in the air before I die.-Pittsburgh's #1 Dolphins fan

    Woodley was incredible in this game and very good in the next one. Unfortunately, in the AFC Championship, he lost his touch and he could not find it again in the Super Bowl (although he had that nice pass to Cefalo early in the game).

    In the AFC championship, the game was played in a quagmire. Defenses dominate under those conditions. In the Super Bowl, Woodley was under persistent pressure, and I'm sure that jarring hit by Dexter Manley (which forced a fumble) had some effect on his accuracy.

    Agreed...The Dolphins led Washington 17-13 after three periods despite Woodley sucking ass for the entire game with the exception of one play. If Miami had any offense at all that day Riggins running would not have made any difference. Marino proved that by thrashing the Redskins in the 1984 opener at Washington 35-17. This was the last year of the totally dominant Miami defense. Marino was never able to experience that.

  • @vccstudents

    @vccstudents

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@zigomanis18 While that is true, Marino was shredding defenses at the time. The lead would have been bigger than 17-13 with Marino in there, which would have taken Washington out of the running game and forced them to pass. Plus, I can never forgive Kim Bokamper for letting Theismann swat a clear interception at Washington's goal line, which would have made it a two-score game. Where was A.J. Duhe when we needed him most?

    @@vccstudents That was the problem in the years Marino was there. Forget dominating defense, even an above average defense would have been sufficient. But, it was not to be. David Woodley and Don Strock were good enough to keep the Dolphins in contention, but not good enough to win Super Bowls.

    A playoff victory against the miserable Patriots. This was a pleasure to watch as this was somehow completely deleted from my memory banks. I'm not sure why they had Miami's record as 7-2 and NE at 5-4 when this was the playoffs. At this point, they had played at least 16 games by now. So I'm not sure what records they were showing but their overall records certainly were not that.

    That season 7 games were cancelled due to an NFL Player's strike. With the shortened regular season, the format of the playoffs were also changed and the teams were seeded like the NBA currently does it without Divisions, which is why that year the NFL called the playoffs 'The Super Bowl Tournament'.
