1982 Honda CT 110 fork rebuild.

Ойын-сауық

My front forks were gone and leaking badly. These had never been taken apart until today. Sorry about the audio, I had the rock tumbler going, and I didn’t realize until editing how bad it was. I had to use a filter to suppress the background noise.
This isn’t a DIY per say, more a historical record with a few tips to help others.
I had never done this job before, it was very easy, the worst part was putting the forks back in and getting the chrome tubes to reach up to where the fork seal bolts bolt it. An extra long bolt with the same thread pitch as the filler bolts is a KEY competent to doing this job, along with a good pair of snap ring pliers.
The floor jack was helpful to hold it in place. What I found is there is a “delicate dance” between the pinch bolt and the top seal bolt to get everything to line up without falling back down. You need enough pressure on the pinch bolt, but not so much that you can’t safely pull the tube up to the triple tree.
These are holding up well, but at some point, the next time these fail it's going to get all new hardware. The corrosion on the one tube was really seriously pitted.
It was nice check the brakes in the front hub and see they were still “like new”. Be sure to get new cotter pins and follow all the torque specs.
Bike rides MUCH better. Front no longer bottoms out hard like it had before.

Graduating college this semester. About to do a restoration of my 81. Was just curious what I was getting into in regards to the shocks, I definitely need to find a good OEM parts source!

Fantastic looking Postie mate. When u filled it up with oil did u slightly crack that small 10mm bolt to let oil out a little to bleed the system? I’m about to do the same.

Thanks! Since I had the shocks off all the way, I was able to tip them upside down and drain 100% of the oil out of them. No need to bleed the system according the manual. There are two different fill volumes. A smaller volume is used if you are draining from the bolt, a larger volume is used if you are starting with a complete rebuild. A small volume of oil remains if you do the bolt method. I found the owners manuals here - ct90-ct110.com/Shop-Manuals.html dry fill = 140cc, "drain and fill " = 130 cc of oil.
