1980 Honda CB400t Hawk Fork Rebuild

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

1978-1980 CB400T forks are a bit different than other common 70s/80s forks. Here's a video showing how to replace the fork seals and oil once you've got them off the bike.
This should apply to any cb400 or cm400 that did not have air assisted forks.
Please watch the whole video before starting (important tips at end), and consult the widely available Honda factory service manual for the proper procedure (including how to remove the forks from the bike). This video is not a substitute.
Sorry for the blurry windows movie maker captions, the yogurt tub tripod and the vertical recording, I'm not sure why it has done that. Phone also ran out of storage at the end. I'll figure it out eventually but for now you're stuck with backyard quality.
Please dispose of old oil responsibly, a little oil contaminates a lot of water.

Thanks for the tip about the 14 mm nuts. Edit: turns out the CM400 1979/1980 only has a top screw, no need for the 14 mm tool.

I would check the cmsnl parts fiche just to be sure no one in the past got lazy but I wouldn't be surprised if they're different. Seems like the forks changed a bit between the models and years, from external drain plugs to no external drain plugs to air assisted in 81.

Old video, but thanks for the 14 allenkey hack, it worked like a charm on my 400 Superdream

When I take the front tire off and mud guard to, the shocks are easy to rotate or spin. My shocks on right when rotated is making a noise. Would you know what's the matter?

Cb400t 1980 is also pulling on left side when breaked.

@@mrswapyyc I'm not sure about the rotation, I remember them rotating with some resistance but still easily, just not freely like a wheel would. Noise I'm not sure about, if it sounds bad I would probably take it apart and see what's going on if you are able. The fork oil could probably use replacing anyway.
