My favorite part of twin Cessnas is the ratcheting mixture levers. lol, that is so satisfying.
The complexity of these modern avionics ,airspace and approach types was really well shown here. Theres a lot going on double checking the correct integration etc...
Hats off to your videographer Rich. Love the detail start-up shots. Great work.

Magnificent panel.
Great video of my dream bird! Miss flying in the SolCal area. Brings back a lot of memories from my instrument training out of KRAL.
As always with your videos, i don't know how to do it better. Never boring, beautiful shots, very informative, honest and professionally edited. This one again. What a beautiful C421. I would feel good if I bought an airplane from you.

as always I love your videos Rich, what a beautiful smooth airplane right there, if I had the money that is the one I would buy for sure but I'm sure it's going to be nearly a half 1 million. It's worth it.! Excellent management, you make it look easy, I've flown one of those a bit and I remember the biggest thing was power management on the descend and arrival, those ram engines don't like to be jerked around and you have to slowly adjust the mixture. ❤

One of the nicest piston twin to fly. They are great airplanes as long as treat them well, and don't abuse them. We had a C414C before the C421, and we had lower maintenance cost and a better plane with the C421.
Another nice video! Cool looking 421 I hope you find a passionate buyer for it-nice avionics & low airframe. I dig those twin Cessnas: 340, 414, 421 & the Conquest 😊

Your 421 experience is different than mine. I was a ramp rat at an airport that had 2 of these. I've never seen one start that smoothly. It got the the point where every time I pulled a 421 out of the hangar, I'd wait nearby and kept a screwdriver in my pocket, they'd always need the mechanic, I'd wait so I could go get him. When the AME inevitably started pulling the cowl, the owner would ask if there was an extra screwdriver to speed things up. Still, always thought they were cool planes.
Ought to do a single engine approach in one of these. Great looking golden eagle

Excellent option on any high performance airplane!
Funny how aircraft from 40 years ago are still very much flying today. When I was flying in the 1980s, I would never think of flying something from the 1940s.
I would love to buy it, but as I just spent over $25 on lunch, I am little short right now.
Appreciate the blue line flag!
unbelievable modern avionics. What a dream plane for those with the $$$!! I flew a 1972 421B based north of Montreal, Quebec, single pilot, IFR , charters, year round, as far north as James Bay, and all the airports along the St. Laurence. Round dials, autopilot wasn't reliable, one crummy weather day (with a copilot) was 6 NDB approaches to minimums, with a Loc Back Course as the easiest one of the day. No GPS, no VOR RNAV, only a Loran which didn't work as one got up North. Now piston planes have avionics comparable to the Challengers and G IV that I later flew.
Hi there rich the legend, John from San Diego.

6:08 I haven't seen dual transponders in a GA plane before. Is there a need for 2?
@ATH_Berkshire
8 ай бұрын
These days it’s going to be difficult to get into a bigger airport without a functioning transponder. You would need some form of dispensation which would take time to get. If the big airport is home base I can see the VFM of a second transponder.
Rich can you do a mid year market assessment?
At 8:00 you mentioned 24 Gallons per hour, is that per engine or on both engines combined?
@ATH_Berkshire
8 ай бұрын
Each, these are big powerful engines.
Are you supposed to idle those geared engines at a certain RPM?
@FlyingwithRich
6 ай бұрын
Based on my experience, seems like they like no less than 900 RPM, much above that they taxi fast so always a balance of happy engine and taxi speed.

@@ivoryjohnson4662 Geared engines will be more expensive to overhaul, same with turbo-charging but not significantly. We have had really good experience with the geared engines we maintain. They do just fine if you take good care of them and operate them per the book - thanks for watching!

@@ivoryjohnson4662The Standard 421 has Continental GTSIO-520-L engines. From that you can tell it’s a G geared, TS turbocharged, I fuel injected, O horizontally opposed engine of 520 cubic inches displacement. The suffix L gives more detail about this configuration but you need to look it up to find the details. Lycoming use a similar method of identifying engines.

Financing these is becomming almost impossible. Looked at 4 or 5 of these along with 414 over the past year., bank will not loan on any over 50 yrs old which most are approaching and then they want 20% down, the insuance is over $5000 to $8000, and many want the equivalent of 4yrs escrow in bank. 30hours or more of training, for a guy with nearly 10000 hours. Before long your approaching an ability to buy a jet!
@FlyingwithRich
Жыл бұрын
Financing is available on a 1982 421C. It’s 41 years old. A mid 70’s 421B which is 50 years old could be difficult to finance, I agree. 20% down is the standard with banks we work with on any airplane regardless of age.
the key is no kidding how you fly it you can spend big $$$$ for a pilot that docent understand HOW to manage the engine....

@jaydoncarling6130

The thin blue line stuck on your wall that shows up in the first 10 seconds. It's a bastardization of the American flag and celebrates police brutality and unchecked police power. It's disappointing that you appear to support those beliefs.
Who would want to own one of these maintenance hogs, you're lucky to get six or seven hundred hours out of the engines before overhaul that'll set you back about 60 grand each
