#58 Very Clean Cessna 421C with Upgraded Avionics - Paint - Interior

This week we bring you a Cessna 421C that we have currently listed for sale. Don't let the high-time deceive you. This airplane has been very well cared for and nicely upgraded. It flies as good as a 421 can fly. I was very impressed with this airplane.
Unfortunately we lost the audio that we usually record onboard the airplane midway through the flight, so don't get thrown off by the voice-over we added later.

Owing it's solid feel aided by an STOL kit? I know I saw VG's, but it also looked like some T/E flap extension links, but it also looked like split flaps, so idunno the kit well enough.

As someone who is graduating university in three months with a Pro-Pilot degree and a CFI certificate, I really appreciate these videos. After flying for four years, my knowledge had been limited to mostly Cherokees, Cessna 152/172's and piper Seminoles. So these videos really expand the horizon on what I would love to fly in GA after graduation.

This class of aircraft are excellent in many categories. It has the perfect mix of avionics. If something were ever to blow out electrically you could still fly with the steam gauges. The geared engines and trailing link gear are great features to have. This aircraft has all you need. Another wonderful video.

This was great to see, and it brought back a lot of memories especially from the sound of those engines. The first real twin-engine flying job I had was in a 1981 421C that I flew single pilot under part 135 back in the early 2000s. I flew 500 hours between the 421C and a 404. Both great airplanes and had a blast flying them. Thanks for sharing!

Nice video, Thanks. I have owned and operated my 421B for 27 years. Love it. Just did an engine change on the RH side (1,765 hrs SMOH and only changed due to a case crack, but was about $90,000 all in FWF for a Western Skyways New Limits overhaul including case replacement. I burn 42 gph in cruise (125 pph per side at 68% power of 31 inches MP, 1,800 RPM). The "Transfer" light illuminates when the fuel transfer is complete. It should be extinguished if there is fuel being transferred. There is a pressure switch in the transfer line and when the transfer is complete, pressure in the line falls, and the switch closes to illuminate the light on the annunciator panel. The vane type pump should not be operated without fuel to lubricate it. So you should turn off the pump as soon as the "Transfer" light comes on.

Yeah, was looking at the fuel flow of over 90 gph on take off, and then 55 gph in cruise, and even if you got it down to 40 gph at long range cruise at altitude, that's still almost $250/hr just in fuel costs. The 421C Golden Eagle is a very nice airplane. Teledyne Continental now has a CD-300 Turbo-Diesel engine. I have to wonder if they could produce an 8 cylinder CD-400 Turbo Diesel that puts out 400hp Max and 350-375 Max Continous, and burns only 10-11 gph per side. That would be a totally awesome conversion for this airplane. There have been at least two turbine conversions for the aircraft, one using Honeywell LT-101 (now Rolls Royce, IIRC) turboprops and then another conversion, the Riley Turbine, which used a PT-6-135. Either one of those would burn well into the 60 gph at cruise though, which still is expensive. But, you didn't have to worry about babying the engines as you did with the GTSIO-520s. I really would like to see Cessna reintroduce some piston twins, all with diesel engines. The 340A and the 421C would be nice, and with economical turbo diesel engines it would be nicer, although TBR might be a little expensive.

@@easttexan2933 I'm not in a position to buy anything right now, my medical isn't current and I'm not current, either. Having said that, I think that something like a diesel powered 340A or 421C would slot in below turbo prop pricing, even the new Denali, and would give general aviation a boost up in small business owners looking for an airplane that's less money than a jet. If they could build a new 340A with 325hp diesel engines, and could produce it for less than $1.75M, I think there wound be small business owner who would buy them. Do a 421C for less than $2 with a 400hp set of engines and you might have a second winner. In both cases, the fuel burn is going to go less than or equal to a small turbo prop.

@@easttexan2933 what does a Meridian cost? How about a new TBM? Both are single engine turboprops. Either is going to give you a bit more cabin room. The turboprop, especially the TBM, is going to be faster, but is it worth $2M to be that much faster add how much more fuel? It's a balancing act, of course.
