This is how good OU was back in the day to lose 5 fumbles and still be ahead. They would go on to lose but they beat themselves on this day.

I remember Fred Cornwell (USC tight end) in his high school days.. He played for Canyon High. One of the 3 high schools in our area at the time.

I remember much of this game was preempted in Central Ohio for Ohio State Stanford.Also Oklahoma fizzled rest of season.And USC even with Marcus Allen getting Heisman had its most disappointing season in at least 😴 4 years

Both teams literally left it all on the field that day. Both teams took some losses after this where you could tell this game took too much out of them. But Marcus Allen still did his thing for the season.

You’re a good man for posting this video. I thought with a channel named “SteelBuck” it would have an anti west coast bias.

As a Sooner fan this one was a heartbreaker to say the least lol. Great game between two of the big boys as they say. Wish we could've come up with the int off the deflection there at the end but oh well. Sooner magic can't come through every time i guess.

Steve Williams “Dr.Death” was an Offensive Guard for Oklahoma.

1981 was the worst year possible for your team to be ranked No. 1. A week later Oklahoma ties Iowa State. USC was later toppled by Arizona. Crazy year where everything got shook up, turned upside down and poured out on the ground. 5 or 6 times over.

Penn State was ranked #1 when they lost 17-14 at Miami courtesy of seven Penn State turnovers and 2 missed field goals. Penn State went on to beat #1 Pitt 48-14.

I saw this game live many years ago on tv "live" (means that I saw it played for the first time) Funny I was a walk-on for a team that was in the same conference as Oklahoma. Got cut after "winter conditioning". Said I was too short to play linebacker in the Big 8. Great game. Mazur (Qb for SC) ended transferring to Texas A@M. Oh well!

Mazur lost his QB1 job to Sean Salisbury and transferred to Texas A&M and didn't do much after. Read somewhere years later said he regretted the move

One of the peculiarities of the no huddle presentation is that we get the incessant rubbishy chatter of Keith Jackson and very little of the cogent observations of, in this case, Frank Broyles. Nice to have this tape, though. Never saw it originally.
