It was for sure, appreciate you watching
This is an excellent study in what Cadillac used to be and what they have become. The Seville was a perfect example of the understated elegance that was the hallmark of this brand, as opposed to the garish, ridiculous excess that it has come to embody today.

My Dad had this exact car. Elegante all the way. He had wide white walls as well. I will never forget the sound of the engine idling...power!

This is the most beautiful of all Sevilles ever made.
The way this car moves on the road reminds me of a 747 in the sky. Like it's very proud to be there.

Extraordinary understatement for a Cadillac of the 1970s. And so successful. To think that a mid-size car, priced higher than any other Cadillac with the exception of the Fleetwood 75 limousine and be such a high volume seller says so much about how hungry the American luxury car-buying public was for a car that wasn't absurd in its styling and proportions.

Can't argue with you! Love classic Caddys. A 58 Biarittz Eldorado is hard to beat too.
Very underrated car, especially for its time. I wished GM hadn’t changed it in 1980.

Traded my '76 Deuce & quarter for a brand new Seville. I was quite happy with it. Astroroof, velour interior, true spokes, vogue tyres, etc. Only thing I missed was the 455 performance. The Olds 350 & the lazy rear called for advanced planning when passing or merging. The 4note horn let others know this was a special car. The last of rear wheel drive Seville. Great car & video.

It was a beaut
The Elegante was introduced for the 1978 model year, so late '77. The Cadillac General Manager states in the '78 Press Kit that no more than 5000 will be built. I've checked and there are no production records for the late 1970s. There were more Sable Black over Platinum versions than the Ruidoso Brown over Western Saddle versions. Sadly we'll never know the numbers. There are quite a few in France, several almost new ones in Switzerland where new they cost a fortune. Bankers loved them. You're better off without a sunroof, many rusted and they cause problems. I run a '78 Elegante in France. Superb car, better than my '79 Rolls-Royce. America, Cadillac needs to build cars this great now. I think the US CLC is the best Cadillac club.

I would think it is a stretch to call it better than a Rolls Royce (these were based heavily on the Chevrolet Nova) but it was truly a highpoint on the American car industry. Everything was high quality and world class, unlike today.

I said it was a better car than my Rolls. It is. Do you drive these cars? I drive them alternately in the summer. Stepping from the Rolls to the Seville tells you how Cadillac had the money to refine things. Driving, braking, steering, the way it travels the Seville is a better car. Don't confuse the quality issue. The best part of a Rolls is the interior, both materials and workmanship. This is outstanding. No one I suspect has ever built interiors like them. Everything on the Rolls, every screw, nut and bolt is the most outrageously high quality. Sadly the doors are aluminum, again close a rear door on the Rolls (mine is mint) then the Seville. You'd think it was the Seville that took three months to build. Not the other way around. Never forget either the ludicrous cost to care for the Rolls. They don't last forever, just myths. This can break some folk.

My uncle had a 1977 Elegante Black/Sliver combo. I believe the Elegante package started in 1977-1979.
@paulbedford7260

They were '78 and '79 model year cars. Remember the model year started late summer. If your uncle bought one in '77 it would've been a '78.

I want to make a roadster version of the `76-`79 Seville. Would I start with a two door Chevy Nova, switch the body panals then chop the top?
Where is the car now? Is it for sale? Amazing car!!

No idea James, thanks for following the Samspace81 channel, this was years ago. I don't market much but sometimes I do.
I prefer the '78-'79 because of the rear disc brakes and the 5x5 lug pattern.
You should see this car in Baby Blue with Navy Leather, Dayton Wires and Vogues!!!

I never was fond of the Seville's, but I'd love to own this one. For one, that plush carpet looks great. Is that engine the Olds 307 or 350? I'd hope it's the 350.

I have one of these, same pewter color (but no black panels), pewter color vinyl full top, same year, not an 'Elegante', red leather interior, 85K original miles, stock multi-port EFI 350" Olds V8, TH400 tranny, stock wire wheel covers, AM/FM Wonder Bar Signal Seeking radio/8-track works, everything works... consider selling reasonable...

There was never a exact number on how many seville Elegante produced! That's why one day this sleeping beauty will be highly sought after if it had the sunroof I would buy it and store away I've had 4 Elegante over the years and Overseas buyers scoop them right up every time The cadillac club in Europe is better than the USA,Anyone who collects Cadillac s if you don't own a Elegante Seville your collection will never be complete Even a Sheik in Saudi Arabia owns one
