I was there at that time. Loved my childhood summers spent in Wildwood: 1971-1978. What a great time to be a kid!

Agreed! Sadly it’s now more about money than family entertainment. Cold cookie cutter amusements, it was better when Mr hunt was building classic rides.

Just to get some perspective: Summer 1978 "Grease" was the biggest movie in the world. DISCO ruled ! Donna Summer "Dim All The Lights" and "Bad Girls", Also "Animal House" was a huge hit .

What a great video! Thanks for taking the time and effort to upload this gem. Brings back many memories. I can still vividly remember the sound of getting into the Swing Ride chair and the sound that the metal bar made along the supporting chains as the ride operator pulled it down into your lap before the ride would start. It was a summer milestone to ride those rides on the pier. Great stuff. Thanks again for posting this video.

I still remember the light rifles. Shooting the red and white bullseye targets on the cuckoo clock, the guy playing the piano, the water pump, the traffic light, etc. Such great memories from the 70's and 80's. The rides...Wipe Out with King Kong towering over the slide, the Golden Nugget, Log Flume with the lumberjack sitting under it, and the Jungle boat ride next to it. I remember a white, wooden roller coaster, I think on Hunt's pier, with a train ride that weaved around underneath that coaster. Magic times, especially when the lights came on at night. Nothing will beat those memories.

Honestly, if you look at any of the Hunts pier videos from the mid-late 80s, that is what signaled the downfall of Hunts pier, long haired guys in concert, T-shirts operating the rides, not the older gentleman with a white button down shirt and a black tie like it was at least into the 70s

1980-1991 for me, every summer. One week at the Shore Plaza. My dad died December of 1991, and the shore wasn’t the same. We went to Wildwood (meaning my mom, sister and I) but it wasn’t the same after he passed. Now my sister is gone and I’m trying to maintain her love for WW with her kids.

Took my kids there for the first time this week (we stayed in OC, as usual if at the shore), and the boardwalk, while still impressive, just felt so soulless or something. I really think the downfall of the arcades has done damage too, used to walk the boards with my dad, play a couple bucks of games here and there, now its all just garbage stores, arcades full of 'vintage' stuff (old crap), and rip off places ($5 to play a water gun race game - NOPE). Was such a let down.

@@joedoyle7799 Do you remember the order of the props inside like the lady being sawn in half, the clock, the knitwit, hell's kitchen, crooked mine, etc.? I saw a blueprint of the inside track layout on a facebook Castle Dracula page. Eric Princz posted blueprints of it, he owned the ride toward the end. He worked at Brigantine Castle and Castle Dracula.

Now have to watch some of the scum bag foreigners in t shirt shops & games. Sign stated x amount for kids shirt. We purchased 2 and they were $8 more. Told me that was for pressing charge. Game operators will give you a smaller prise so I complained. Said there was only 4 people using water guns when there was 7 or 8. Will never purchase a shirt or pay for rip off boardwalk games. Worst then carnival cheaters. Love it when they can speak clear English but go with a hard to understand acent when you have a complaint. We were down in May and some of the stores on boardwalk had stands all the way out to tram car cement roadway making it a pain to walk. Now go down to much cleaner quiter Ocean City Md two weeks a year. They also have so matter better resturants.
