The body style actually started in 74. My parents ordered a 74 from the factory, white with brown interior and wood sides. This was the car I learned to drive in. If you can parallel park this beast you can park anything. :)

Its in fairly good shape considering they weren't treated as collectors typically.. I would like to eventually get it a proper paint job and fresh woodgrain. But for now its presentable and I'm not stressed out about driving it and it getting a rock chip or anything....which is the level of car I enjoy most. Perfectly restored or new cars stress me the heck out driving around!

My parents had two Town & Countrys that they bought new- a red 1972, and a 1975, the same color as yours. Our `75 had the optional 400, and no cornering lights. It had factory carpet on the tailgate door also. I can't remember if it had Autotemp or not. Man, your car really brings back memories. My parents sold their `75 in 1979, the year before I started driving. I would so love to have one of those now! I'm in love with your car. Thanks for sharing.

I had 1 of these, a '70 T&C with the 440. Loaded to the gills. It would run an honest 140 but it needed to stop at almost every gas station.

My dad had this exact vehicle, minus the 8-track. He kept it into the 90s because he wasn't a truck guy. He did haul 4x8's when doing home upgrades. We made many long road trips, longest being Menominee, Mi to Boston. He LOVED that car. The rest of us hated driving it. My best friend's family had it in white with a brown interior. They referred to it as "The Battlestar" as in Galactica!

When I was in Highschool in the Eighties, dad owned a combination repair shop/body shop. One of his customers had a '76 T&C wagon that he had taken PERFECT care of from new... But he had an accident with it by running it into his garage door and ruining the grill, fenders and hood. The insurance company TOTALED it and since I happened to need a car, I ended up buying it for a whole $250 cash. I also bought a wrecked '78 New Yorker Brougham for $150 that had been rear ended and also TOTALED by the insurance company. They were both Dove Grey cars and the '78 had the cool Waterfall grill, hidden headlights and the grey button tufted leather interior. So the wagon went into Dad's body shop and the entire front end of the '78 went on the '76... We transferred the side moldings and even installed new fake wood "DiNoc" on the sides. We did the Switcheroo on parts of the interior, swapping in the leather seats for the old vinyl ones... Dad's upholsterer reskinned the wagon's rear seat with the cover from the '78 sedan. Gotta say that it was one of the classiest station wagons I've ever seen... And I miss it like crazy.

    @johnlucas5171

Oh man how cool is that! I was always surprised they weren't offered with the waterfall grills and high interior trim offerings like the other chryslers of that era. If you have any way of finding your VIN of your old wagon it may be able to be tracked down to the last/recent titled owner.

Boy, did YOU kick butt with this purchase of such a gorgeous wagon! You know, I loved the GM "clamshell" tailgates of that era, and while I depised the Ford's "twin-facing rear seats," I thought they were beautiful, too. But in the 70s, nothing screamed "I am a suburbanite; hear me tow my camper trailer" more than Chrysler wagons. They even got the Brady Bunch's full approval; now that's an endorsement! 🐰

The car I learned to drive on was a 1977 Gran Fury Sport Suburban, so very similar to your Town & Country. My father purchased it new then I bought it off him when it was 5 years old. I kept it until 1986 then sold it to a friend. After 1977 the only big full sized cars Chrysler made were the Newport and New Yorker, their last year in that sheet metal being 1978. There were no full sized wagons in 1978.

Super cool wagon, someone took care of her. Sadly almost all the 60s,70s and 80s wagons were used as demo cars, parts cars for 2 doors or for their driveline. My dad had almost entirely all chevy wagons but he had a 74 dodge with the woodgrain and a 440 ,a 75 Chrysler or Plymouth wagon with wood grain and a 73 Ltd country squire even though he hardly drove them as chevys were and are his heart ? I'm looking for a classic chevy wagon 65 or 66 but I have 2 dodge magnum wagons (06 rt,07 sxt) which I love . All wagons are awesome, thanks for posting

In '82, my first car was a '73 Fury. It was that color and I see styling and body lines that remind me of it. Especially by the rear wheels. It also looks like they borrowed some style from Ford/Mercury, in the hood and grill area.

It's nice to see another one, but mine is a 77 Chrysler Town & Country Hearse I got for free helping my friends daughter with his estate. This was one of the cars he had. You mentioned some my have had a sun roof. Believe it or not my hearse has the optional sun roof! I hope to have it at the Mopar Nationals in the survivor class this is something you don't see every day at a car show. The same thing can be said about your vehicle. It's fantastic, now all is missing is a vintage travel trailer. In joyed the video.

It’s amazing how well the styling has aged on these mid 70s mopars. We had a 1974 dodge Crestwood with beige paint and simulated wood siding. Try finding one of those these days. And we were always towing something with it, just like your family. I think it had a 360 in it. And I remember my dad always saying how thirsty the car was, it gulped down the gasoline.

On that car you can use hella h1h4 conversion e-code headlights. You can use 1157 Switchback bulbs in the front turn indicators, you can use 1156 LED bulbs cob Style in the cornering lights. Interior bulbs can also be matched up with LED cob bulbs cob are the better version they're making now. That front grill on the car is the actual base for the hood ornament other various ornaments may also fit a Top That Grill Crown that can be kept in a glove compartment for swapping out at your leisure or something different to look at. Some window tint I like mirror on these cars with chrome trim it comes out really nice and it blocks the Heat and the fading has a lot easier to see through than that dark tint. I've never owned a Chrysler so those are just usual things I do with my cars, and visited a nice friendly muffler shop and replace the entire exhaust system without the catalytic converter. Set of sensor-matic shock absorbers, on all my project cars I take all the trim off the outside polish it on my polishing wheel but I put cosmoline on the vehicle so when I replace the trim behind it is that wax spray so rust can never start where all the Fasteners are even the Fasteners brand new I spray them with cosmoline and then put all the trim back together that way you don't ever get those orange streaks down the side of rusting fasteners. The real difficult job is taking the front and back bumpers off removing the Chrome faces from the core supports taking the big machine with the wire brush and cleaning up those core supports are really good spraying the rust converter on the metal and let that dry out in the hot sun then the next layer be primer the final layer is bedliner. For the inside which you can't get to after using the rust converter for some gear lube or motor oil used on the inside reassemble the bumpers and Mountain back on the car of course using a floor jack because they're so heavy. On some cars I've been known to move them inward three or four inches known as a bumper tuck. My Cadillac Seville the rear bumper I tucked it. To delete the disintegrating filler pieces. My Ford LTD I was able to move both front and back in 4 in and it looks great. And was able to delete the filler Plastics on the front one. The bumper job is very important because they begin to rust especially the rear bumper and even the skin it gets wire brushed rust converted primed and bed liner on the inside of the Chrome skin and then you bolt that back to the core support and then you build the whole unit back onto the car and you have that side of relief that the bumpers are done. You don't need that all of a sudden what's that orange spot on the rear bumper to find it's already rotted all the way through..

My parents hosted a few foreign exchange students over the years in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember them saying that one of the exchange students was shocked by the size of the wagon when they picked him up at the airport! I also remember them saying that he was also blown away that we were able to have a learners permit at 15 years old and regular drivers license at 16. I think in his country the driving age didn't start til 18 at the time.

@@johnlucas5171 Yes, that would be correct haha. Here in my country, Serbia, you can start learning how to drive when you're 17, but you can get your license when you're 18 at the earliest. But for the first 3 years of your license, you can't drive a car with more than 109hp, and you also can't drive from 11pm to 5am. We have some more restrictions. I think I would also be kinda shocked seeing one of these in person, I have a Mazda 626, 1993, and that is already a big car here, my father says it's huge and it's around 4.7m long. I'm guessing your Town and Country is around 5.5-5.7m long haha, so it would definitely look super huge compared to euro cars. I personally like that, I'm a small guy and I like big things haha.

@@SomeOne_86 Yes it is long...comes in at 19 feet or 5.8 meters! Dang, that is some terrible restrictions! I bought my first car a 1985 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo when I was 14 so I could have it ready to go for the day I turned 16. I got my first speeding ticket on the first day of having my license too lol!

@@johnlucas5171 Haha that's awesome! I can imagine having that crazy thing as a first car was a great experience. I personally don't mind at all how big these are, it would just be a little difficult to find a parking space big enough for these. But the roads are big enough, and if you have a house then parking is not a problem. I'd love to own one of these some day :)

The ones that were less money would have cost more to restore imo than paying 10k for this one. Since I have limited time for taking on projects I opted to spend the extra money and get one that was in good condition.

Yeah neat old car well cared for needs some minor attentions on a few items the Chrysler Trio of that era actually exibited some unique engineering accolades to quote the late Lido Anthony Iacocca Chrysler actually employed some great engineers but their automobiles lacked a balanced design their engineers in the various departments did not communicate well with the other departments down the hall these people needed to be sleeping togeather but they were not even flirting you had the audio entertainment department working on premium stereo radios but the people that were working on the HVAC system were putting out noisy blower components Electric window & seat motors that would wake the dead to me the CHRYCO trio were Boulbous & ugly now the Quadrupelets Clam shells over at General Motors were unique & popular/ unpopular in their own right they had excellent rearward visibility but some people thought that clamshell / fishbowl was ugly & when those got past a few years that whole glide away system had problems that made a lot of people go CHRYCO or FoMoCo but GM abandoned that concept after 1976 now to me Ford had the best & coolest Full sized wagon design in the industry the Country Squire & Colony Park models are the cream de La cream 😊
