1975 Autocar Tractor Will It Start?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

These old cummins always start so easy! This truck has been sitting for at least 12 years and who knows how long before it was moved here. Checked the fluids, threw the jumper pack on it and a few revolutions with the compression release pulled then it roars to life! Freeing the brakes turned out to be a bigger job and looks like this has happened before judging by one of the brake shoes
Some maintenance, new rubber and hopefully we have a road worthy tractor!

    I ran a Auto Car like that for about two weeks hauling logs. We rented the truck while my KW went down for a engine change. I did not like the walking beam rear suspension. For off road use and in the mud, it did really well. The haul roads were brutal. But out on the paved road ? The truck almost flipped with a load of logs going around a curve. My kw pulled that same curve every day with no problems. I hit the curve running the same speed I always did (55) and the AC literally tilted her left side wheels off the pavement by at least six inches. (Tractor wheels and log trailer wheels) I yanked the Johnson bar trailer brakes and that pulled the truck back down. I'm talking about a truck that had a loaded gross weight of 94,000 lbs. It about scared me shitless This happened back many years ago in the 70's while logging in the South Carolina piedmont foothills. We cut pine plywood logs for Georgia Pacific and was paid tonnage. To this day when I see one of those damned AutoCars I think about that. Good luck on your resto 👍

    yeah wait until all the wires get brittle and the insulation falls off. computers, old DEF, common rail injection that doesn't like the slightest bit of dirt or lack of lubricity. We are turning into a society that just throws things away and buys new when it gets old not to mention people dont know how to fix anything anymore let alone 50 years from now. We need to push trades and teach kids its ok to be part of the working class.

    All vehicles are far better today than in the past. One can easily get 300k out of a car engine. The plastic parts will fall apart way before the car stops running. I like modern safety like brakes and crumple zones

  • @frankdehne1949

    @frankdehne1949

    @@frankbutaric3565 no we had a good mix of old school engines and transmissions with crumple zones and good brakes and all that etc etc.between the eighties up to around '05 give or take. from 2012 to now it's getting out of hand you're not going to be getting 300K out of some of these cars now without spending $1,000 a month in maintenance I know that's an exaggeration but trust me my 1990 Chevy or my 97 Grand Cherokee with a 318 or my 4.0's are going to outlive what's on the road right now or at least what's been coming out since around 2012. Everything's going to little motor all aluminum with turbochargers. Do you know what forced induction does to your engine and what happens if you overheat anything with aluminum once.

    running was as easy as it seemed. moving not so much. not much entertainment in beating on drums, backing off want slack adjusters and more beating. i edited all of that out or didn't bother to film it

    You need water for your radiator as when you where trying to crank it over it was smoking from the radiator and don't for get to check the spark plugs and make sure you have plenty of fuel in the tank check your Suzie's your power cables on the back of the truck and make sure that all of your lights are working completely and check your tyres for any cracks or leeks and check your over night heater is working and check that your windows open and close completely and check that your gears are all working

    Quite impressive...I don’t know how much prep time you spent beforehand, but it cranked over quite well and easily. How long did that thing set? The brakes sure stuck, but you got that resolved. The inside doesn’t look too bad either. I remember seeing those rigs quite often while growing up and still see them sitting here and there. Cool trucks. The older trucks are still cooler! Looking forward to seeing more of this rig as it transforms. The Porters of Ohio.🤩

    Do you know of any mid 1950s Autocar D-75s??? I'm searching for a 1953 - 1958 Autocar D-75 with the integral factory sleeper. Would appreciate any leads you or anyone on here might have. My Dad had one that he used to haul OTR Georgia to Chicago back in the 60s. I loved riding in that truck,... great memories. Looking to find one and doing a resto-mod and putting it back on the road as a daily worker. Cyrus

    What's it got under the hood for power ? Being a 1975 model A-car with a beige painted Cummins, my guess is it's probably 335 hp. What are your plans for it? I'd love to see this with some fresh paint, a bit of chrome , a stretched frame and big high-rise double bunk. What a magnificent sight that would be going down the road!
