Lennie Wayne Pond (August 11, 1940 - February 10, 2016) was an American NASCAR driver. He won NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year honors in 1973, and won his only race at Talladega Superspeedway in 1978 for Ronnie Elder and Harry Ranier. Pond set a then world record speed of 174.700 miles per hour (281.152 km/h) in winning the caution free 500-mile race.
Lennie W. Pond grew up in the Village of Ettrick, Virginia racing on his parents' farm, which Ettrick was home to Pond all his life. In the mid-1950s. Pond started racing modifieds on dirt tracks, then went to asphalt tracks, then to late-model tracks. In 1973, Pond started to run Winston Cup races; his last race with Winston Cup was in 1989 at Richmond International Raceway for Junie Donlavey. Pond got to run all three tracks here-dirt, asphalt and the new track.
His career totals include 234 career starts, one win, 39 top fives, 88 top tens, five poles, and a best championship finish of 5th in 1976. He beat out Darrell Waltrip for rookie of the year honors in 1973. Five years later, Pond won his first career race at Talladega Superspeedway.[1] Before retiring Pond raced his last race on September 10, 1989 at Richmond International Raceway in the Miller High Life 400 where he finished in 11th place.
Pond later became a car salesman at Heritage Chevrolet in Chester, Virginia.
Pond died February 10, 2016 from complications of cancer.

You've quickly become my favorite model car builder on the tube simply because you build for your own joy, you don't make long and complicated videos, you share with your audience which tools and paints you use that are available to the average modeler, you criticize your own work not like some who have big egos, your builds always look great when done. Simple, fun and to the point! Thanks for sharing your fantastic work.

Almost thirty years ago, I purchased the generic AMT NASCAR Chevelle release with the decals that could do all of the 70's releases. Granted they didn't have all de decals, so I never finished the Lennie Pond version I wanted. Over the years, several vendors have offered more comprehensive decals and I ordered them. All of them were a disappointment. Finally we get the release with an even better set of decals. Thanks for the review!

Another great video. I learned to clean the tires like you do the parts, then just spray the side wall with a dull coat, then try to paint the white letters. It does not work all the time, but it does a lot of the time.

That looks pretty cool! For anybody who is building their own , the real car was like a mustard color, like the old 70’s “Harvest Gold” kitchen appliance color. Basically a non-metallic version of the gold panels. In some photos it’s hard to tell the two colors apart. The wheels were gold to match the panels. He had a 68/69 Chevelle painted the same way. But the AMT box art was always bright yellow for some reason so they kept it that way for the reissue. Edit: I just googled the Bauhaus Gold paint you used and it looks like it’d be the perfect color but it looks totally different in the video. Weird.

Built that kit alooong time ago. For the tires I would lightly spread paint on wax paper & let it flash for a few seconds, scuff the tires lightly then just place the tire on it also for a few seconds, then remove, let dry & clear spray it. Works great! My Dale Earnhardt 94 Lumina, which I still have still has the paint on them after thirty years.

Awesome vid. It actually inspired me to pick up that kit today. Although I've built hundreds of kits through the years, they have all been WW2 airplanes and tanks so stock cars are new to me (even though I'm a long time, old school NASCAR fan) and your vids are a wealth of information. So far I've only done 2 NASCAR kits: the old AMT 69 Torino Talladega that I turned into AJ Foyt's #11 and the Salvino JR's 78 Olds 442 that I did as Neil Bonnett's Armor All ride. Quite a difference in quality between those two! I do have a question: I also recently picked up the old AMT 75 Bobby Allison Matador, but I don't trust the kit decal as they look a bit yellowed. Is there anyone who sells aftermarket ones for that ride? Thanks for any help with this and keep those vids coming!

spray nozzles from rattle cans are easily removed and can be soaked in any number of solvents to keep them clean. just remove the nozzle from the can immediately after spraying and drop in the thinner. if you wait until the paint has dried - you will have a problem. also, try saving nozzles from empty cans - in case one does become clogged.

Only one ERROR stands out in this otherwise great build. Your technique of clear gloss over flat black to simulate vinyl is clever. But in this model you changed your brush strokes on the clear making the vinyl look like the 1972 stuff. There was a World wide change in the manufacture of black vinyl in 1973 when the under fabric weave was changed. The feel was very different. The only way I can see to rectify this is a tear down, stripping the dash and repainting it to 1974 vinyl covering specs. (please be laughing about now...)
