I just completed my 87 Snapper 10/30 , what a F@C%N Tank , anxious for winter ! ALso tidying up an Ariens early 80's 7\24 . And in the process of an impellar bearing change on my 2018 Ariens DLX 28 , replaced dual auger belts & ground drive belt , & drive disc . Still have MANY other blowers to get to , plenty of projects to stay dirty...LOV'N IT !! Kepp em going bud , great to see youre doing good & congrats on sticking w the no smoking ! Also finished a 2011 ARIENS compact 24 & Ariens 2005 7.5\24 .

You are so right, get that shroud fixed and use that little hole to adjust that screw. That is one nice old engine there. The surging is definitely a governor adjust bud , not a carb adjust…..start over with the governor first , low speed, high speed adjusts and make sure the gas is nice. Although , if your gonna flip it then you got what you need there , get your dollars and move it , stop chasing it unless it is gonna make you more .

This one is particularly special due to the fact it's a first year production, 1 year only color combo. In 1972 they went from that to Red and black and never went back to anything else. Even now, red and black. That may also be the only year bull horns were on their, those were phased out around that time. It's in amazing condition. It just looks a little rough cuz of the primer, a little red to make it all uniform.👌

I have a 1974 Toro 726 (Mod31763) I got for free, so no complaints in that department. However, when I drained the oil, about 1/2 pint (yep, that's all) of jet black think oil came out. Just before that I did verify it started, but it smoked like a Big Boy locomotive. I pulled the head off and found a few large scores on the cylinder wall and believe it needs oversized by first boring out the cylinder. Have you ever done this? I"m looking for a video that shows the process. Any help is greatly appreciated. I really want to bring this ole' machine back to life, as 'she' saw it in the 70's. Thanks!

No I never bored out a cylinder or installed oversize rings. I put a direct replacement engine on one than I started using Predator 212 engines to replace the tired old engines. I wouldn’t do that to the one in this video, but I have to both my 1971 Ariens. Those machines have more power than they ever had and at $99 bucks at the time, you couldn’t go wrong. If your dead set on saving that one, look for a set of .30 over rings, and dismantle the engine and take it to a machine shop to be bored to 30 over and honed. That’s honestly what I would do if I wanted to save it, that’s just something you have to have a machine shop handle. Hardest part is finding oversized rings, they’re getting scarce.

Thank you for your reply. I will look for the 0.030 over size rings first, since you say they can be difficult to find. Then, if I get lucky with finding new parts, I'll take the block to a machine shop and have them re-bore it to 0.030 over. I really would like to save the motor. Thanks again!@@Mr_Tecumseh

@@davidolchewsky5365 No problem. I almost forgot, you need an oversized piston too. Take it apart and to your machine shop first, see if it needs to be bored all the way out to 30 over, because you also have the option of .20 over first, depending on condition of bore. If you can get away with .20 over and those parts are easier to find, than go with .20 over. .30 over is the last option, widest you can go. After that it’s finished.
